Bed bugs 😫 pic

AIBU to burn my flat down 😐😑

Both kids come up on spots Monday. Assumed chicken pox, didn't itch and redness went down the next day.

I wash all bedding etc the same day.
Today I thought I would double check the beds.
The kids have racing car beds that are low to the floor, slates are around 3 inches for the floor.
Pulled the mattress up, saw one teenie tiny bug.. killed it.
Then saw a couple on the carpet, under the slates. I placed a white baby wipe down and a couple travelled onto it.

I'm assuming bed bugs, baby bed bugs in the pic... I've called for fumigation for Friday midday and the kids can sleep in with me tonight, I've attached a pic.

They're bedbugs aren't they? 😑😑

I googled small insect infestation and i think they could be termites. They are similar in shape to the photo you attached. I tried to add a pic but I can't get it to attach. Google and have a look.
Whatever they are, I hope you are rid of them soon.

Roozy123 · 15/09/2021 16:21

Okay. Update.

Taken beds out. No sign ON beds. No sign ON mattresses.

Carpet under the beds. Riddled.

Can't find any, any bigger than the pic I posted. I just stuck tape over a few.. crumbs and crap attacked BUT new pic uploaded. Any suggestions!? Could it still be bedbugs!?

Oh I'm feeling itchy!! Hope you get to the bottom of it soon OP

Whybirdwhy · 15/09/2021 16:26

Can't help I'm afraid but IMO it's absolutely disgraceful that the council.are using Covid as an excuse to allow bug infestations to go unchecked in their neighbourhood. FFS.

Good luck.

LoislovesStewie · 15/09/2021 16:28

Never buy a new bed from a dealer who says they will remove your old bed for free, it's the 'best' way of getting bed bugs into the house. They go from the old bed being taken away into the new bed being delivered to you.

user64325 · 15/09/2021 16:28

It's hard to tell from your pictures, too blurry. Adults are about the size of an apple seed. They also shed skins as they grow so with lots you should see some empty ones. They do prefer carpet to beds imo.

Not sure.

Bed bugs come in a range of growth stages - the adults look like tiny mini cockroaches - deep reddish brown, slightly shiny. Have you studied pictures of them on Google?

Once dark and your kids have been in bed a while, lift the covers and see if any have made their way into the bed.

When we had a bed bug experience they were evident in the bed once we got in.

(Yes, I am still suffering flashbacks! Thankfully it wasn't in our house)

AnaVanda · 15/09/2021 16:37

I had a bed bug problem a few years ago but solved it myself. Takes time though. Use a handheld steamer to steam all the bed seams and around the bottom of your skirting boards. Buy food quality diatomaceous earth and use a paint brush to spread it in the same places as this kills the bugs. You might have to repeat a few times but it worked for me. Good luck.

we had this. nearly broke me. Came in from university accomodation - unfortunately the kid in question didn't react to the bites so they were well established in 2 bedrooms by the time we realised (didn't go anywhere else)

We had the pest control people three times (twice is standard). I put every single item of clothing/cushion/bedding/coat etc for 5 people through the drier at high heat and then bagged everything and we lived out of a bag ourselves until the second fumigation. Then I found evidence or another one so went through the entire thing again. there wasn't enough gin in the world to help me. I still wasn't certain they were gone (they weren't - odd one left in original bedroom which was no longer occupied).

What I did then was get in a bedbug dog - there are such things in the US. trained in the University of Florida to sniff out bedbugs. He came in and did his stuff and his handler said here were one or two left in one bedroom but nowhere else. I then hired a pest control firm that basically heated the entire house to very very high heat for 12 hours. that killed everything and I am sorry I didn't do that first. the lovely dog came back to check we were finally bug free.

I then got rid of all our lovely wooden beds and unholstered bedboards and started again with metal. I threw out pretty much everything in the original room.

We are REALLY careful now about staying in other beds- - put clothes straight into the wash/dryer when we return and check beds for signs.

I honestly don't know if those are bedbugs - the pest guys should be able to tell you. My experience is they lurk more in mattresses and wood/crevices of the bed than the carpet.

Can you pull up the carpet, bag it and leave it for pest people to see?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/09/2021 17:12

Indorex is amazing for fleas, wonder if that would work for fleas too?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/09/2021 17:12

** I mean bed bugs

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/09/2021 17:14

A quick Google suggests it does work!

crimsonlake · 15/09/2021 17:31

I do not know what they are but think you are very brave. Best of luck.

Dumpedwife · 15/09/2021 17:46

I had a flea infestation 18 months ago. No idea how or why as no pets.

It still haunts me. I booked washed everything in iukd, vacuum bagged clothes bedding etc, hoovered daily and sprayed indirect liberally.
It took.me weeks but they did eventually go.

Really feel for you. No one chats about stuff like this but you're not alone. It's bloody awful but you can and will eradicate them eventually.

Roozy123 · 15/09/2021 17:53

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've read them all! Thank you.

I've been stripping every thing and very close to running away lol.
Spoke to fumigation man again, just sent him some pics 🤞🏻

We had then once, years ago. I don't remember it being this difficult to get rid of them. We also had fleas from neighbour's cat so bought some defleaing spray from a local vet and it did bed bugs too. Sprayed it all over the bedroom and mattress, carpets etc, then boiled the bedding, PJs etc and they went away.

Wriggleon · 15/09/2021 18:37

Definitely get it confirmed they are bed bugs, I thought we had them, threw lots out, bought powder, steam cleaned all the time. Still there, got bug people out they were carpet beatles, found the source - a bird behind kitchen pelmet! Gross but once we got rid off that, it was almost a miracle. So check first what you are dealing with

Roozy123 · 15/09/2021 19:04

@Wriggleon this is what my friend said they are as she has also had them. I'm so confused!? The man that will fumigate on Friday explained that the adult bed bugs can hide.
Well, I've pulled apart the beds, gutted the entire bedroom, boiled washed everything and bagged up toys. I've not found one, YET loads of these teenie black bugs in the carpet ... bar around 5 I found in a toy box.

What was your experience with carpet bugs as I'm praying it's them and not bedbugs!!!! 😩😓 all the ones I've found are the same size, which im confused as surely if bedbugs they would all be in different stages of growing!? I'm confused.. I'm stressed and I'm bloody worn out.

OP posts:
SpamIAm · 15/09/2021 19:04

I'm not convinced they're bed bugs. They don't look quite the right shape, and it would be odd to have so many baby ones but no faeces, eggs or blood spots anywhere. At least you've got pest control booked to come and deal with them either way!

DecorChange · 15/09/2021 19:14

With bedbugs its best to heat treat them. Hotels heat treat the rooms and the 2 rooms next to the infested room. Heat is your friend.

IncessantNameChanger · 15/09/2021 20:10

Have you got any flour in your house? Check it's not biscuit beetles.

IncessantNameChanger · 15/09/2021 20:21

The natural history museum might be your friend here to identify your bugs

mustlovegin · 15/09/2021 20:27

big yes to diatomaceous earth to 'supplement' the fumigation

How do you use it? I know it's used for plants

Mymapuddlington · 15/09/2021 20:27

I would say mites to be honest.
Boil wash everything, use a sticky roller thing (the name escapes me) to go over soft things like carpet. Check creases in side of mattresses.
I would also spray bug spray in the room, windows and doors shut. Leave for 24 hours and then major clean again.
