Perfumes for inducing a vomitty rage

In response to this lovely thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4336303-Perfumes-of-your-life?pg=4 AIBU to suggest we get some lists of perfume that send you into a head-achy verge of vomiting rage? I’ll start with one I had to sit next to for a 5 hour stretch recently - Youth Dew 🤢. Also disliked by my mother, I’m still getting flash backs now.

Also I’ll add Lulu 🤮. Someone used to wear loads of it at work. I could barely keep my breakfast down when I walked in first thing.

I had a big bottle of Pomegranate Noir, which I stupidly bought blind, having bought into all the hype around its launch. I tried very hard with it, having spent £100-odd however I ended up selling it on EBay as it gave me the most horrific headache every time I wore it!

Lanique · 15/09/2021 17:04

Also I find Angel and Obsession give me headaches too.

I've been sent samples of new fragrances and I find many these days are too sweet, cheap and cloying, and I can't wait to wash them off. Give me a good earthy unisex scent any day!

Closetbeanmuncher · 15/09/2021 17:04

Lynx, Lynx
Me thinks thou stinks.....

Get in the shower and scrub thy wink

Buggerthebotox · 15/09/2021 17:04

My faves are all on here as being vomitty rage-inducing. Love Youth Dew, Loulou, Chanel 5 - anything strong and overpowering. I've just bought myself Angel for my birthday. It doesn't smell strong to me at all. I must have a strong stomach.

I draw the line however at Obsession, Eternity and Rive Gauche. Can't abide those - waaay too sweet and cloying.

Angel..gag inducing

DemDem94 · 15/09/2021 17:08

Glow by J Lo...... literally makes me gag and gives me a headache.

MintyGreenDream · 15/09/2021 17:08

Chanel.no 19

Blueberrycreampie · 15/09/2021 17:09

@Dsisproblem

OMG Je Reviens. My mum wore it and it was horrendous.
This smells - to me - of a powder for Athlete's Foot which I think was called Mycota? Horrible!
Bluenotgreenmilk · 15/09/2021 17:14

Eden-I bought some once as I liked the box
Fuck me-I honked so badly,I walked through town and people where avoiding me
My dad told me I smelt ‘like a rotting hippy’
He wasn’t far wrong

CheerfulBunny · 15/09/2021 17:18

CK Eternity smells like carrots to me. I used to drench myself in it as a sixth former unfortunately.
After much thought and planning, I decided to treat myself to Jo Malone perfume some years ago and ended up with Peony and Blush Suede. I can't stand it, it's so strong it makes me feel icky. It now glares at me from my dressing table, unused.

BigFatBloomers · 15/09/2021 17:26

The original Gautier - but only because an ex boss used to douse herself in it at any opportunity. I try to avoid smelling it now.

I used to stomp around in clouds of Poison in the 80s. I do apologise! I wonder if I'd still like it now. It seems unlikely.

Alleycat1 · 15/09/2021 17:26

Youth Dew is vile! Lots of my contemporaries wore it and it is just too overpowering and sickly. My perfume hasn't been mentioned; it is one of the oldest from the 1920s.
Surprised to see Rive Gauche on the list, though.

AutistGoth · 15/09/2021 17:33

@Alleycat1 Florida Water?

tootiredtobother · 15/09/2021 17:42

I offer my deep apologies to all who came into Harrods perfume hall, and bought Obsession and G - Beverly Hills, I probably sold it to you..
I didn't last long there, couldn't handle the Arab wives demanding I gift wrapped all the Beverly Hills they bought buy the 100's
Still gag at any whiff of Obsession

AutistGoth · 15/09/2021 17:45

Ah, no. Probably Blue Waltz, @Alleycat1.

Florida Water is 19th Century.

Alleycat1 · 15/09/2021 17:46

AutistGoth no, Mitsouko by Guerlain. I have never heard of Florida Water, who is it by, please?

LadyEloise1 · 15/09/2021 17:50

On my Perfumes I hate list :
Angel
Pomegranate Noir
Tweed
Rive Gauche
Opium
Tresor
Lime Basil and Mandarin

SionnachRua · 15/09/2021 17:52

Anything Jo Malone, never met one I liked.

Lush snow fairy as already mentioned, revoltingly sweet!

Chanel no.5 is atrocious. I once got given a bottle as a teacher Christmas present and couldn't even pawn it off on the other staff for fear people would start drenching themselves in it Grin Went to a friend I don't see much.

YSL parisienne is horrible imo. If you combined my granny with a tree, that's what you'd get.

ipswichwitch · 15/09/2021 17:52

I can’t cope with Fahrenheit. A flat mate years ago dropped a whole bottle on the bathroom floor. It reeked of it for months! Attempts to get rid of the smell using bleach and other assorted cleaning products just resulted in a bleachy Fahrenheit smell 🤢

AutistGoth · 15/09/2021 17:52

@Alleycat1. It's very old: America's answer to 4711 Eau de Cologne (which I love, by the way). Still ubiquitous enough to buy on Ebay, though it's mainly sold in the USA and presumably Canada.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Water

I'll look up Mitsouko. I'm not familiar with that one. Smile

TheVanguardSix · 15/09/2021 17:55

Jean-Paul Gaultier (I had two part-time colleagues who used wear it into work on the same days and I swear, I couldn't grab my Plague Doctor Mask fast enough).
Guerlain Insolence. Just no!
All Estee Lauder perfumes. All of them!
Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers has got to be the worst offender!

TheVanguardSix · 15/09/2021 17:58

AutistGoth I love 4711! It brings back memories of my Czech grandmother and my auntie.
I like Alvarez Gomez too. I like cologne/cologne waters. They're very fresh and light.

Ladyrattles · 15/09/2021 18:03

Chanel No5 makes me feel really sick & gives me a migraine.

Cryalot2 · 15/09/2021 18:03

Anias Anias
4711
Tweed
Anything by Jenny Glow . It is beyond vile

AutistGoth · 15/09/2021 18:04

That's lovely @TheVanguardSix! It reminds me of my honeymoon in Köln. Smile

It really is a lovely scent. My only quarrel with it is that it doesn't seem to have much "staying power." It fades very quickly.
