Perfumes for inducing a vomitty rage

In response to this lovely thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4336303-Perfumes-of-your-life?pg=4 AIBU to suggest we get some lists of perfume that send you into a head-achy verge of vomiting rage? I’ll start with one I had to sit next to for a 5 hour stretch recently - Youth Dew 🤢. Also disliked by my mother, I’m still getting flash backs now.

Also I’ll add Lulu 🤮. Someone used to wear loads of it at work. I could barely keep my breakfast down when I walked in first thing.

I’m not particularly sensitive to perfume but I gave a full body repulsion reaction to Angel. I just have to get away from it.

afaloren · 15/09/2021 14:05

Chanel No 5. Smells like cat wee.

Impulse body spray. Smells like the lift in a call centre.

Neonplant · 15/09/2021 14:05

There's a lot of people with very delicate constitutions on here. All the headaches, migraines and nausea / vomiting induced by perfumes is worrying.

Miliao · 15/09/2021 14:08

Angel. It’s the most revolting smell.

BigButtons · 15/09/2021 14:12

@Miliao

Angel. It’s the most revolting smell.
I have had fantasies about going up to people wearing Angel and telling that even though they think they are being edgy they do infact smell like their cat or dog piased all over their clothes.
Staryflight445 · 15/09/2021 14:15

Opium is absolutely vile.

DoYouWantDecking · 15/09/2021 14:17

Another one for ANGEL. Astonishing how many think it is vomit inducing.
AMEN is lovely though.

BashfulClam · 15/09/2021 14:18

Angel is vile I hate the smell of it. Also the issaye myake one for men, it smells like a stake jacket. It smells like aftershave on a jacket for a night out that has gone stake in the wardrobe and re-worn.

BashfulClam · 15/09/2021 14:19

*stale not stake

Waitingforthecowstocomehome · 15/09/2021 14:22

@SomeLikeItTepid

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir. Gives me a headache.
That’s my fave😳
Rozziie · 15/09/2021 14:23

All perfumes. they are absolutely horrible for people with asthma, migraines and sinus issues. I genuinely think it's incredibly anti-social to wear heavy perfume on public transport, and especially to spray it! I don't understand why people even wear it tbh. It's artificial, gross and miserable for those with allergies. Just have a shower and put a bit of roll-on deodorant on?

@TheOnlyMrsM

Not quite a perfume but please may I dump Lynx here, over-liberally beloved of some teenage boys and men?

Lynx, Lynx
Me thinks thou stinks.

@TheOnlyMrsM - I used to volunteer in the library at ds1’s senior school - an all boys school. When you walked in through the doors in summer time, the atmosphere was a solid wall of Lynx and BO - you could have cut it with a knife.

And I remember when the dses were teenagers, and ds3 would apply industrial quantities of Lynx in his bedroom, and I could literally taste it downstairs, several rooms away! It is weaponised fragrance!

ShortColdandGrey · 15/09/2021 14:23

Chanel No 5 smells like dog shit Grin on me. I tried it on a few years ago and was giving myself, and everyone I went near the boak the whole day.

Rozziie · 15/09/2021 14:25

What an ableist comment. It's extremely common for perfumes to trigger migraines and nausea...they are full of irritating chemicals! I have very narrow sinuses which get inflamed and irritated easily...do I not deserve to exist in the world?
ElsieMc · 15/09/2021 14:27

I once sprayed my feet with a Body Shop Vanilla body spray. It was pretty hot that day at work when my co-workers began to complain they could smell an odour like melting chocolate. I had to admit it was the smell of my feet with heated up vanilla spray.

I also dislike Youth Dew - my late dm liked to douse herself in it and my dad used to ask me to never buy it for her.

I also remember a co-worker wearing Je Reviens. She was quite sweaty and it seemed to smell stronger. It stunk out the office until I rivalled her odour with my chocolate smelling feet.

I also hate that body shaped fragrance bottle, always advertised on TV with a lot of sailors. Can't remember the name, sorry.

Yestoallthecake · 15/09/2021 14:28

My grandma loved Youth dew and Red door, she’d get me to buy it in duty free on every holiday. Both were awful but she was in her 90’s so guess to her they were memories of being young.

FrenchBoule · 15/09/2021 14:30

Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune I think it’s Guerlain.

Cat's piss smells probably much better and evaporates quicker

MackemLass79 · 15/09/2021 14:32

Not perfume as such but a scent range and I loved it in my younger days but now can't bare it makes me feel sick is lush snow fairy. I know it's still popular and it's at this time of Yr it makes its appearance and presence known

DownWhichOfLate · 15/09/2021 14:35

@ElsieMc - Jean Paul Gaultier?

Worrying? Yes, but not for the reason you mean. It is worrying that people are regularly forced to put up with unpleasant effects from the nasty chemicals they have inhaled in many perfumes.
Glaghirl · 15/09/2021 14:36

@Spysolation

Tom ford tobac vanille or whatever it’s called. Awful awful awful
That's like catnip for me...I love it 😍
TheRebelle · 15/09/2021 14:38

All of them, if you want to wear perfume that’s fine but you don’t need to bathe in it, if I’m more than arms length from you and I can smell it then you’ve got too much on.

TinnedPotatoesRock · 15/09/2021 14:38

Alien and Angel by Thierry Mugler make me feel really sick, also Chanel No. 5 and anything Viktor & Rolf

BillyJoe111 · 15/09/2021 14:40

I have never worn or bought perfume, so have no idea of brands.

But my MIL wears so much perfume you can smell her for hours after she’s left my house. I used to have to change and bath my babies after she had been here holding them all afternoon because they stank.

I don’t know if it’s just a particular perfume she wears that makes me feel sick, or just that she seems to cover herself in it.

sayanythingelse · 15/09/2021 14:43

Mostly men's ones -

Joop - every teen boy seemed to wear it

Savauge - a colleague used to absolutely drown himself in the stuff. Even my coat used to smell of it when it was near his on the coat rack. It's not even nice.

Poison - contrary to previous posts, I used to like Poison until I wore it when I was pregnant with DD1 and had BAD morning sickness. Now it's just vomit inducing

Black Afgano - Bleurghh. I have a friend who is into high end fragrances and I think the majority of them stink.
