Perfumes for inducing a vomitty rage

In response to this lovely thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4336303-Perfumes-of-your-life?pg=4 AIBU to suggest we get some lists of perfume that send you into a head-achy verge of vomiting rage? I’ll start with one I had to sit next to for a 5 hour stretch recently - Youth Dew 🤢. Also disliked by my mother, I’m still getting flash backs now.

Also I’ll add Lulu 🤮. Someone used to wear loads of it at work. I could barely keep my breakfast down when I walked in first thing.

So, what does everyone LIKE? Every perfume ever seems to have been trashed! ;-)

Blueink · 16/09/2021 23:31

Chanel Allure, rancid, not so popular now thank goodness.

Anniemas · 16/09/2021 23:35

DH used to get me a great Prada when abroad for work, no idea what it was called...squat brown rectangular bottle? He couldn't find it last visit so got Prada Amber, clear bottle, just sprayed a bit to remind myself of why I hated it......whole fucking house smells of rat piss! Urgh! Need a shower now and I'm bloody knackered!

Flipflop87 · 16/09/2021 23:39

I bought one from Oliver bonas. I thought it was nice and then put it on at home and got that. Even thinking about it makes me feel nauseous.
Exclamation used to make me feel like that. Basically for me it’s lots of the cheap ones. Not that I have loads of expensive perfumes! Can’t afford them!

Darlingx · 16/09/2021 23:43

Rozziie
I agree I stopped buying / wearing perfumes ages ago .I use Dr Hauska rose milk deodrant and an not interested in spraying my self with chemical scents that take the air out of the room .

Bertiebiscuit · 17/09/2021 00:18

Youth dew, all Body Shop fragrances, Opium and of course patchouli 😷🤮🤢

Bertiebiscuit · 17/09/2021 00:18

Not forgetting Anais 😷😷😷😷😷😷😷

@itsutterlyshit

Angel by Thierry Mugler 🤮 I can smell it a mile off and it gives me an instant headache and makes me gag.
Me too 🤮
Ralphiemia · 17/09/2021 00:39

Clinique aromatics, working in a pathology lab the pathologist used to spray herself with it after performing an autopsy. I still find the smell so disturbing after all these years

Itsmeagainandagain · 17/09/2021 01:11

I wear alien and have tonnes of it, its ok but rather cloying.. I also have aura which is dandelion at first but wears to a nice scent eventually...so angel or aura for mt headache perfumes

I stay safe and use the light and fresh juicy lala... Wee heads up for anyone not wanting strong sweet perfumes juicy couture perfumes are nice and easy on the nostrils

MistyGreenAndBlue · 17/09/2021 01:20

Only one of my favourites has come up on this thread - just once. I'm feeling quite smug about that Grin

Agree with many on here about Poison. It's the worst, smells like fly killer. See also Opium and Chanel No5. Both awful.
What was Marilyn thinking?

leatherboundbooks · 17/09/2021 01:26

yes to Angel and Anais Anais, also Cabotine. Someone mentioned Lovely, not sure what a more concentrated perfume might be like but I love it

Rhannion · 17/09/2021 01:36

@RainbowToes

The smell coming out of the Lush shop used to make me feel sick and give me a headache. Hold my nose if I need to go past now.
I hold my nose going past Lush as well but for a different reason.
Suzi888 · 17/09/2021 02:16

La Vie Est Belle- DH mother wears it. It’s so strong 🤢

Alondra · 17/09/2021 03:13

Lulu
Anais Anais
Anything by Versace

tomorrowalready · 17/09/2021 03:14

Fascinating thread. I'd admit to one of my current favourites being on the hate list - Green Tea from Elizabeth Arden. Not that I use it so much when I don't go out. Do most people still wear perfume if they are home all day? I also used to love sweet smells like Anais Anais and Diorissimo when I was young but could not bear them now.

I remember when Opium first came out, I was working in hotels and walked into a room after the guest had sprayed it liberally - got my first migraine instantly. Can anyone explain what exactly 'gourmand' perfumes are, they have been mentioned several times but I don't reaaly know what they are.

SpidersAreShitheads · 17/09/2021 04:03

I used to work with a really heavy smoker and after lunch she used to drown herself in Cool Water to try and hide the smell of smoke. It didn't hide it, but created this really disgusting, heavy scent of the two mixed together. I cannot stand the smell of it now.

Lulu is another one that brings back unpleasant memories.

On the flip side, I love CK Be. No matter what other perfumes I try I always end up back with it. I get so many compliments when I wear it - it smells sort of soapy and fresh, and just very clean and light. I see it's on someone's hate list here though 😅

I suffer with migraines anyway so a lot of strong perfumes can trigger them for me.

So I stick to light and fresh smells. My two go to perfumes are Gucci Rush 2 and DKNY Be Delicious (or Green Apple as I’ve always called it Grin)

Ddot · 17/09/2021 07:19

Alien
on my sister its vile, really really vile.
I have problems with perfumes too, smell lovely then I try on my skin and wham instant vomittie whiffy rankness. I do love After the rain by Arran aromatics, very hard to find and Crabtree & Evelyn rosewater but its discontinued not which is a shame. Si basically when I'm out of them I'm going natural.

dottymac · 17/09/2021 07:22

Angel 😷🤮 from years ago, bit every time I catch a whiff even now I want to wrestle the offender into a puddle to remove the stench

Gufo · 17/09/2021 07:27

Tweed 🤢

RockallMalinHebrides · 17/09/2021 07:29

@itsutterlyshit

Angel by Thierry Mugler 🤮 I can smell it a mile off and it gives me an instant headache and makes me gag.
It really is utterly shit.
beigebrownblue · 17/09/2021 07:30

Another vote for patchouli oil.
Smells like weed to me. (I don't smoke it, never have but we had anti social neighbours and it stinks(

Gonnagetgoing · 17/09/2021 09:50

My mum has always loved Narcisco Rodrigues but I think it smells of disinfectant- must be a top note in it somewhere!

Gonnagetgoing · 17/09/2021 09:52

I used to love Obsession and Rochas Byzance in the 80s. I did spray a lot of it around then though especially Obsession as a colleague kindly told me! Blush
