Quite annoyed listening to a Fashion Expert for instance saying that people have been wearing lounge wear for the last year and change is on the horizon

we haven't all been lounging, yet alone wfm and feel it is narrow minded to say we were!
aibu to be annoyed
would you be annoyed.

They’re a fashion expert, they comment on the current trends. Just because you weren’t following that trend, doesn’t mean other people weren’t. There are lots of fashion trends, would you be equally as upset if they’d said that white trainers and dresses were on the way out despite you not wearing them?

FWIW I’ve been WFH but I’ve not been wearing loungewear, I’ve been wearing the same clothes I would have worn before the pandemic. I’m not offended that other people have been wearing loungewear.

YABU for the not-so-subtle implication that everyone who has been working from home has been “lounging”.

Bluntness100 · 14/09/2021 07:03

Can’t see your issue to be honest. It’s a well known fact many people worked from home during the pandemic and lots were in leggings etc, just because you weren’t doesn’t really change it does it?

MadeOfStarStuff · 14/09/2021 07:04

YABU

it’s a trend, it doesn’t mean it applies to everyone. I’ve never worn skinny jeans in my life, lots of other people did so it was a trend.

sounds like you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about working outside the home during the pandemic

Wole · 14/09/2021 07:05

They're just talking about the general trend. More people have been wearing lounge wear in general. Sales are up of lounge wear sales are down of suits.

QuillBill · 14/09/2021 07:08

YABU, what do you want them to say? Some people have been wearing loungewear but others have been wearing XYZ? Some people will never ever follow the fashion trends. She can't go over every single one. "but Bob from Chester is still wearing MC hammer pants from the nineties and Delia is staying as a punk'.

Don't watch the weather forecast whatever you do.

Lol at 'fashion expert' calling loungewear a trend. Some of us have have been slobs at home for decades 😂. Loungewear is not new!

Fashio · 14/09/2021 07:12

I ENDORSE THIS MESSAGE

Fashio · 14/09/2021 07:13

How rude to say “a chip on your shoulder about working outside the home”.

Say that to your nearest teachers or health care staff.

Booknooks · 14/09/2021 07:14

Why on earth would you be annoyed? There are plenty of fashion trends I don't partake in, not sure why you'd get annoyed if someone mentioned them. Of course loungewear has rocketed in popularity since lockdown.

I've worked in healthcare throughout and not arsed. This poster is correct that a lot of people do seem bitter about it, it wasn't their choice to work from home so why the nastiness? Even if so, jobs have always had different conditions.
Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/09/2021 07:16

I work out of the home but I think YABU to be annoyed over something so minor.

I work out of the home in a factory and I think OP is being over sensitive.
camelfinger · 14/09/2021 07:26

Even if you forget about WFH, there will have been more loungewear worn because of lack of social events, not having anyone round, not being out and about. It’s only recently that people have started to go out out. There had already been a move towards more comfortable clothes for day to day wear e.g the activewear trend.

I remember in the height of the first lockdown thinking that when it’s all over, people would be getting elaborate hairstyles and getting very dressed up again.

Imnothereforthedrama · 14/09/2021 07:27

Why would you be annoyed ? a lot have been wfh, ok you haven’t nor have I , but I know a lot have so it’s a fair assessment that a lot have been wearing lounge wear . I’d save my annoyance for a lot more pressing things .

2021booklover · 14/09/2021 07:28

I have wfh for years and have a lot of loungewear! It most certainly is a trend as our shopping this weekend I noticed that even smart styles of trousers have been given an elasticated waistband. Doesn’t mean I have to buy it.

I have family that are in healthcare and that are teachers. Most of the women in my family are teachers or nurses. They all have someone at home who has worked from home throughout and they will all say their children and spouses worked just as hard as them, just in different situations. For the one woman in the family who works in retail and was put on furlough, the teachers and nurses in my family know that brought with it it’s own challenges and fears for that person’s job security.

Nobody in my family has tried to claim they’ve got it worse. Everyone has accepted we’ve all had different challenges this year and had to get used to new pressures.

godmum56 · 14/09/2021 07:28

One that gets up my nose is the use of "everybody" as i everybody thinks, everybody is talking about, everybody will be watching.

DressBitch · 14/09/2021 07:29

Ridiculous thing to get annoyed about.

TheKeatingFive · 14/09/2021 07:33

Oh FGS they are talking about general trends. What an odd thing to get worked up about.

Hopdathelf · 14/09/2021 07:33

You personally might not have been but clearly it’s a general trend being referred to. Even where people haven’t been WFH the vast, vast majority have been forced to spend leisure time at home due to the lockdowns and, I suspect, have chosen to wear more comfortable clothing during that time.

If this is working you up you need more in your life.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/09/2021 07:37

oh and then she said We have all been walking our dogs

Do you think loungewear is shameful, OP?

I wear the same scruffy ripped/worn things for days on end due to WFH. Loungewear would be smartwear for me.

Immaculatemisconception · 14/09/2021 07:37

Much bigger issues, here to worry about.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/09/2021 07:40

if only she had said many people have been wearing lounge style clothes that would have been better but to insinuate the whole of the UK have been wearing lounge clothes is wrong, and as i said, narrow minded.
