Quite annoyed listening to a Fashion Expert for instance saying that people have been wearing lounge wear for the last year and change is on the horizon

we haven't all been lounging, yet alone wfm and feel it is narrow minded to say we were!
aibu to be annoyed
would you be annoyed.

I get where you're coming from. There is a general tone in lots of articles etc that the country has been in lockdown everyone has been walking, lounging, working from home etc. Actually a large proportion haven't been doing any of those things but they aren't included in a lot of the post lockdown discussions.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 14/09/2021 08:24

YABU to pay any attention to anything they say - it's all a load of shite anyway.

Fashion "experts" - ha. No time for them. I get utterly pissed off with the fast changing "fashion industry" that leaves countries swimming in unwanted mass produced artificial fibre textiles, not knowing what to do with them.

I wear what I like and what suits me and boy does it piss me off when I try to replace anything and find I can't because "it's not fashionable at the moment" - but it will be back within a year or 2 because y'know, people want it. I'm not remotely "out there" - I like scoop neck t-shirts, for e.g. but can't get any at the mo because "fashion". Shoes and boots - don't get me started on those!

So I wouldn't pay much heed to anything they say. They're just trying to sell magazines and cheap fast fashion.

I know fashion is life blood for some but seriously - don't worry about it.

Crinkle77 · 14/09/2021 08:28

I've wfh pretty much the whole of the pandemic only going in to the office 1 day a week since last September. I've worn leisure wear practically the whole time. Jeans, hoodies etc... Only time I put a smart top on was if I had important meetings.

gofg · 14/09/2021 08:33

OP you are obviously very easily "quite annoyed". I'm not annoyed at all.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/09/2021 08:33

It wouldn’t annoy me but I see your point.

I got really annoyed by people talking about how bored they were on furlough in the first lockdown- I would have absolutely loved it, it would have been my dream at the time to stay in my house, paid to not work so I could pursue my creative writing and other hobbies without the day job sapping my brain. It would have been a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.

Unfortunately I was a key worker (though from home) and my workload increased exponentially so while people were joking about counting m&ms and being so bored, I was stressed to the point of being physically ill and I used to feel furious with them.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/09/2021 08:46

Yes, it's lazy writing. Lots of people do it, you see it on here all the time 'everyone I know does X, earns more than Y, has a Z'.

No-one could possibly say that, even about their immediate family or at least close friends/colleagues etc about a lot of things.

So writing 'everyone has spent the last year in loungewear' cannot possibly be true. See also 'there's nothing worse than

Lalliella · 14/09/2021 08:49

Annoyed? Why would this even bother you? It’s such a non-issue. Obviously some people have been wearing loungewear for a year and some haven’t. If something is a trend it doesn’t mean everyone is doing it. Ripped jeans are a trend. I would never wear them. I’m not annoyed because someone says they’re a trend 🤷‍♀️

HarebrightCedarmoon · 14/09/2021 08:50

I never wear loungewear. I wear PJs in bed and then have a shower and get dressed. I've spent the last 18 months wearing mainly casual clothing but not loungewear.

BiBabbles · 14/09/2021 08:51

I can see the annoyance, even if it's a small one.

During Lockdown 1, my DS1 had an English class that talked about one of those poems that came out during that, discussing how everything had gone quiet and we could all hear the birds now & should learn from that what was important. His classmates and him all made the comment that it was bollocks -- many of them were experiencing more noise as freight lorries and trains were increasing.

Though there were a lot of pieces countering and tearing apart that 'we're all at home enjoying the birds' - or wearing loungewear - & how it was making a very particular comfortable pandemic experience the definitive experience. It is a bit annoying, though I think this overgeneralization has been common in fashion journalism or maybe just in certain publications more known for their fashion journalism well before COVID.

IntermittentParps · 14/09/2021 08:52

There are a fair few irritating tropes about the pandemic and lifestyle. I'm freelance and have worked at home for years, and it is a bit galling to me to read things like 'when we go back to the office we'll all have to forgo the afternoon nap' –in my ten years of freelancing at home I've NEVER had time for a nap!

Have to say though, round here anyway it does feel like I'm the only one who hasn't acquired a dog.

Purpletomato · 14/09/2021 09:14

DD dressed in her poshest frocks and bridesmaid's dress for every day of online learning! Totally mystified her teacher and classmates as she's the active sporty and Scouting type who's normally in something practical. Months of doing Maths dressed as if she was about to go to a wedding! Rest of our house were in scruffs though.

VestaTilley · 14/09/2021 09:17

YANBU. Even when I WFH I get showered and dressed and in to proper clothes.

We’ve got a toddler and need to take him out twice a day, so staying in “lounge wear” wouldn’t be an option anyway. I feel like I’ve wasted the day if I just hang around in pyjamas- and aside from a couple of pairs of leggings I don’t own any lounge wear anyway.

We’re becoming a nation of lazy slobs.

TheWeatherWitch · 14/09/2021 09:18

Here, have a grip.

Covid, Afghanistan, climate change, economic mayhem, nurses dying, cancer patient backlogs, school shootings, property prices rising, staycations not ‘real’ holidays, businesses going bust, and James Bond delayed by 2 years.

And you chose to focus on what some random stranger thinks you may or may not have worn?

We havent all been wearing lounge wear for the last year!
Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2021 09:20

I assumed most people spent the last year lounging about in loungewear and no shoes, baking banana bread and learning a new language didn't they? Grin With the occasional walk.

BewareTheLibrarians · 14/09/2021 09:24

Wait, you’re not supposed to wear loungewear to work? ShockWink

Luna2021 · 14/09/2021 09:29

Wow, you must have a lot of time on your hands to be bothered about this. So many things must offend you in a typical day...

Fallsballs · 14/09/2021 09:30

Strange to get so annoyed about this but maybe you need a lie down (in loungewear). Or are you so busy you can’t ?

Blondiney · 14/09/2021 09:35

@OasisOfFerns

Lol at 'fashion expert' calling loungewear a trend. Some of us have have been slobs at home for decades 😂. Loungewear is not new!
We're finally ahead of the game, trendsetters if you will. 😂
TheKeatingFive · 14/09/2021 09:39

It reminds me of when the fashion bods were talking about ‘normcore’ as a trend.

So normal clothes then 😆

ChargingBuck · 14/09/2021 09:41

YABU for paying attention to anything a "fashion expert" says.

Who gives a shit?
Wear what makes you feel comfortable & confident, try hard to avoid exploitative brands, & for crying out loud find something else to think about if some random's 'fashion advice' annoys you.

We're not in the playground any more.
Grown women can wear what the fuck they like without getting upset about the opinions of people from a vapid industry.

BlueberrySugar · 14/09/2021 09:44

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 14/09/2021 09:52

I work from home and get dressed in ordinary clothes most days as I have to appear on Zoom! I haven't wanted to wear jackets on Zoom as that appears a bit stuffy, though.

Now we are going out fairly normally for dinner, into town for shopping, I'm back in my old clothes, and I love it.

I quite like the odd bit of loungewear a couple of times a week on down days but I'm not champing at the bit to stay in elasticated waists!

DeclineandFall · 14/09/2021 09:52

So called expert talks generic bollocks for pay.

The world is full of them. But still YANBU.
