Full disclaimer- I have a history of eating disorders myself so am possibly over sensitive to this.

Have been reading through another currently active thread as well as what we eat in a day etc (which I occasionally post on and do find interesting). Why do people feel the need to post about their extremely low calorie days on here, or give potentially harmful advice? What's the incentive exactly- and are these people lying about how much they really eat or is most of the mumsnet population in an extreme calorie deficit? Do these people not see how selfish and damaging these posts can be?

Fruit does contain sugar and if someone was complaining their diet consisted of lots of fruit but they had problems with insulin resistance

How do you know if you have problems with insulin resistance? Unless you are diagnosed type 2?

Some women with PCOS also have insulin resistance @Nomoreusernames1244 so I think it’s increasingly common to be tested for it if you have PCOS. But there’s no need to avoid fruit if you have diabetes or IR - even diabetes charities say don’t avoid fruit.

I’ve just seen a recommendation to ditch the fruit bowl as it’s “packed with sugar”…..
It’s unrefined sugar, and fruit is also full of fibre, vitamin c and anti oxidants.

How do you know if you have problems with insulin resistance? Unless you are diagnosed type 2?

As far as I know, it can be a diagnosis. Not quite meeting the threshold of type 2 but not functioning optimally. Warning signs are belly fat, feeling shaky if not eating very frequently, sugar cravings.

As I have said, fruit need not necessarily be avoided but some find avoiding fruit helpful. And yes, there is plenty which is healthy and good about fruit.

Again everyone is different.

The thread I was referring to re. Ditching the fruit bowl was about a 5 year old child.

Very much doubt pcos or any other issues.

Also 3 posts later was the obligatory cut the carbs and up the protein.

5 year olds should not be on low carb/high protein diets, and should be eating as much fruit and veg as they want.

The real problem was the child getting up 3 hours before the parents and helping themselves to the fridge/cupboards, not too many carbs, or too much fruit.
