Sending child to school in marked t-shirts

So little ones been at school for 5 day's and already has 3 t-shirts with board pen on that I cannot get out. Wibu to send them in with the t-shirts on? It feels so wasteful to bin them and buy new ones after one blinking wear

Please use them. Speaking as a staff member we don't care if a shirt has paint / pen or other stains.

Comedycook · 10/09/2021 20:51

Keep them. I understand though...My dd had a pen mark on her school dress. I'd wash it after every wear but I was always paranoid the teachers would think I never washed her uniform!

Ducksurprise · 10/09/2021 20:53

Some will come and say buy new but it is a dreadful waste. I've always sent mine in clean but marked clothing. It says nothing about you as a parent, teachers do not care about marks.

Ducksurprise · 10/09/2021 20:53

Grin Well not pen marks.

Totallydefeated · 10/09/2021 20:54

Keep using them, if the school want Mark-free uniform they need to switch to washable pens.

PoolNooodle · 10/09/2021 20:54

I would, my children have got paint
On things and I’m not throwing them, however I did have to throw away a dress that my daughter got red paint all splashed down that wouldn’t come out in the wash, there was too much of it the odd mark is fine but it was covered.

Fabbydabbydoozey · 10/09/2021 20:54

ALL of my children’s school clothes are covered in pen. As a teacher I don’t give a thought to pen on uniform.

DirtyBlonde · 10/09/2021 20:55

I would buy one to keep clean (photos etc) but would merrily send them in in marked/stained (but otherwise clean) tops on ordinary days

CiaoForNiao · 10/09/2021 20:56

Yanbu. I can't understand why people bin clothes after one wear because of a pen mark. As long as they are washed then they are fine. I figured if school had an issue with it they could stop using dry wipe pens.

brittleheadgirl · 10/09/2021 20:56

I teach phonics daily often using whiteboards & pens.
Honestly I'd be shocked if the children in my class weren't covered in pen marks by now and never think something is unwashed if it has pen on it!
Please please don't bin them, so unnecessary and so so wasteful.

IHateCoronavirus · 10/09/2021 20:56

Hand gel rubbed on before washing helps to lift the stain.

isitweds9thseptyet · 10/09/2021 20:56

Ahhh the drawing on yourself or each other with a board pen phase. I so enjoy that one.

PinkSpring · 10/09/2021 20:57

Same here, DD started school this week, uniform top is a bloody white - WHITE Angry - polo - all three I purchased have stains and marks on now. Managed to get the worst of them out but still some slight stains. Considering they are £10 per top, I am still using them. Will just buy some plain white polos to add to the rotation!

Angel2702 · 10/09/2021 20:58

Try hair spray on it to remove it. Sometimes works but it is something that has always angered me the expectation of buying expensive logo uniform but no care or consideration to taking care of it. There must be a better soloition to permanent markers and non washable paint. I would gladly provide enough for the class to save ruining new uniform.

lannistunut · 10/09/2021 20:59

Would never cross my mind to change them - the next ones will get pen on them anyway!

Please don't thrown them away.

HungryHippo11 · 10/09/2021 21:00

Use them in the winter with a jumper over the top and nobody will know.

Presumably you have tried soaking in vanish/violets and that sort of thing?

shouldistop · 10/09/2021 21:01

teachers do not care about marks.

Grin
sayanythingelse · 10/09/2021 21:01

I would. I tried everything to get pen and paint marks off DD's white shirts. I was going to bin them but there's no point when they'll just get messy again. I'm sure they won't be the only kids with a bit of pen on their tops, especially if they're young.

Robinkitty · 10/09/2021 21:01

Of course you should keep wearing them. We would not judge on this.

Jangle33 · 10/09/2021 21:02

Why would you possibly bin them! Of course they go to school with them again!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 10/09/2021 21:05

They all have pen marks on their clothes! It’s those bloomin board markers.

shouldistop · 10/09/2021 21:06

Ds1 started school a few weeks ago and I've been sending him in slightly marked polo shirts / shirts. If I didn't then I'd be constantly buying new ones. I use a vanish white sachet thing in the wash and dry them outside which I find helps a bit.

Cryalot2 · 10/09/2021 21:08

Never throw them out.
Most kids will be the same. Try hairspray or ace bleach or make up remover

crazyguineapiglady · 10/09/2021 21:12

The whole point of uniform is you don't care if they get marked or stained, surely?
In the summer they will be stained with sun cream too.

Stellaris22 · 10/09/2021 21:16

I really hope it isn't a thing to throw perfectly wearable clothes away just because of paint or pen marks, what a waste!
