Sending child to school in marked t-shirts

So little ones been at school for 5 day's and already has 3 t-shirts with board pen on that I cannot get out. Wibu to send them in with the t-shirts on? It feels so wasteful to bin them and buy new ones after one blinking wear

@Blinkingheckythump dunno if it’s been mentioned but hairspray often gets many types of ink out. Spray dab wipe repeat.

@seaandsandcastlesif you do insist on replacing clothes needlessly, couldn't you at least find a better way of disposing of clothes? If you have time to buy clothes then you have time to take the used clothing to a recycling centre.

Well that’s just not true. I can buy clothes while sitting in bed in my PJs breastfeeding, and I enjoy it. Taking clothes to a recycling centre means sorting stuff out, bagging it up, taking a special trip and precious time out of my day.

So no. Wearable clothes we just don’t want anymore go to charity, but everything else is binned.

Stellaris22 · 11/09/2021 15:05

Does your council collect used clothing? It's really not difficult and you'll be teaching yourself and your children valuable lessons. Please don't just send perfectly wearable clothes to landfill, it's completely unnecessary www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/clothing-textiles-0

The landfill issue isn’t mine to deal with. It is what it is.

Yes, it is. If every parent of a child in YR/Y1 takes your attitude and chucks away just one stained but fairly new and useable polo, that 1.5 million in landfill.

CecilyP · 11/09/2021 15:45

I might write a note in the home-school diary, the coward's way out!

And not at all unreasonable!

There won't be a planet for us soon. But as long as kids don't wear a stained shirt who cares hey! Ffs.

I'm a teacher and I use hand sanitizer if I accidentally get pen on my clothes.

I've seen some stupid things posted on MN in the past, but this is right up there. Shock

Of course the landfill issue is yours to deal with. The way you act will influence and affect the world your child grows up in. Throwing away a shirt with a pen mark is unbelievably wasteful.

@Stellaris22 I just chuck old unusable clothes in the bin. If I feel clothes can be worn by others I send to charity.[/quote]
FFS. There's no polite thing I can say to a post like this so I shan't ay much but you are really letting your kids down.

Stellaris22 · 11/09/2021 16:13

I genuinely couldn't even contemplate putting clothes that are damaged in the bin, let alone clothes that are absolutely fine and undamaged.

It's not just the landfill issue (which IS your problem when you're adding to it) but the fact that you're buying brand new clothing. Couldn't you at least TRY buying second hand uniform and taking the time to look at clothes before buying.

I know this is pointless as it won't change your mind, but teaching your kids environmental lessons is so important, or do you just ignore what's happening to the climate?

The first year dd was in school, I stressed stains so much. I spent so much time scrubbing. It was awful because the playground was lined with a material that stained clothing like crazy. I eventually realized all the other children were covered in stains and I was being ridiculous. Dd
