You’ve seen one episode, you’ve seen them all?

Inspired by the ‘Vera’ thread - what are the shows you can see once, then theoretically never see again without missing anything?

My vote goes to Location Location Location. As much as I love it, the formula is eternally predictable:

‘Steve and Samantha Deluded-Twats are looking for a spacious two-bedroom apartment in west London. They love pricey Chiswick, but only have £300k to spend. They’re hoping that, with our help, they can find an area nearby with an attractive high street with a villagey feel and lots of independent shops and cafés, even though they buy everything off Amazon and get their lunch from Tesco Express like the rest of us. Today, I’ll be showing them a one-bed in need of work opposite a condemned council estate now being used as an unofficial skate park and drug den. I REALLY hope they can see the potential’.

Not Going Out (recent series, at least - wasn't like this at the beginning, as far as I can remember).

Lee and Lucy get into a tricky situation, lie about it, almost get caught out, lie some more, and so on until finally the whole tower of lies collapses spectacularly. But all's forgiven by the end of the episode.

If it was real their children would be so freaking confused, and probably pathological liars. Grin

Call the midwife

Mad nun says mad things and goes missing/gets deathly ill
Doctor smokes and says earnest things
Sheleigh simpers and wrings her hands
Something wholesome in the village hall
Babies get born, 50% of the time in extreme poverty
Some mild peril, possibly involving a bicycle or a car

The end.

Orgasmagorical · 10/09/2021 16:38

Silent bored shitless Witness

Tops of the Pops

EmKayEm · 10/09/2021 16:40

Love House, and CSI Miami.
Totally predictable , but still watched every episode.

All of the life lessons and interesting characters.

And the shades...

PineappleSun · 10/09/2021 16:40

Marie Kondo shows..

Cluttered house + joy/no joy = tidy house

Only watched two of them, much prefer Consumed, at least there is variety in what the participants are consumed by, the tupperware episode is especially notable.

Definitely agree with Don't Tell the Bride although you sometimes get a really nice one like the Caribbean carnival one, still isn't stopping me binging through the lot though.

To slightly adapt PPs -

Location, Location, Location - young couple in their early twenties have a budget of a millions pounds.

Wanted Down Under - Spouse pushes for move to stop her DP seeing his DC from his first relationship or because her DP had a fling and she wants to live in a different hemisphere to the OW and the DC. In both cases, the DP agrees and doesn't see his other DC again. The fig leaf is that they will spend time as a family doing things they could do where they live now but in practice will return to a routine of going to work then watching television indoors.

Grand Designs. Couple design some state of the art residence full of sustainable energy technology on a hilariously unrealistic budget. Kevin delivers whispered warnings to camera just before ad break. Specially engineered glass from Germany fails to arrive and when it does it doesn't fit - just. Woman gets pregnant and thereby the race is on to get moved in by Christmas (FFS is Kevin actually impregnating these women?). A catastrophically awful winter ensues with waist deep floods on site, and in the latter series there's a countdown clock to when you, the viewer, know that Covid is about to strike and you're shouting at the telly "Hurry UP! Covid is coming!". They move in and make the inside beautiful, and Kevin delivers his closing homily about the transformative power and beauty of great architecure.
Ha I say this to DH. There always seems to be an awful winter, a major design/materials flaw and a baby involved!

@Unfashionable I always wondered what Iggle Piggle did when they grew up. Hadn't realised it was to become a Spanish singer.

I saw this and thought House! I loved it and watched every episode....but it was very formulaic. Enjoyable though!
I can on to say House!! It drive me mad in the end, such a formula every time.
BarefootHippieChick · 10/09/2021 16:45

Also, forgot Supernatural. How the hell did they get to 15 seasons? Only worth watching for the hot leading men 😁

BreakfastOfWaffles · 10/09/2021 16:45

@Unfashionable

In the Night Garden. Iglesias Piggle goes to bed. The end.
Love the idea of Iglesias Piggle. Is that Iggle Piggle's Spanish cousin? 😀
Confusedandshaken · 10/09/2021 16:47

The last series of The Handmaids Tale Whatever woman/women she is with they are in deep shit so June takes an unnecessary risk, reassures everyone it will be ok, she knows what she is doing. She doesn’t know what she is doing. They end up in deeper shit ad infinitum. I gave up about halfway through.

DemBonesDemBones · 10/09/2021 16:47

Yep, Friends for me too. Still haven't made it to the end, so predictable and boring!

@ThinWomansBrain

Eat Well for Less - generally a two parent family with 2.4 children, buying tons more than they ever get to eat because in addition to giant supermarket shops they get takeaways every day. the solution is always stop buying branded stuff, cut out junk food, no takeaways and packed lunch for work, and cook from scratch.

And if they buy cheap tea forever they'll save £2.03 a year - never any suggestion to buy a brand they like, but get it when it's on special offer Hmm

And the two idiot presenters gurning their way around a supermarket pretending no one knows they're there.

God yes. The sister programme with joanna page and Mel sykes is even worse.

We've 'broken into' the house of these people who like to overspend, like labels and designer brands, have recently bought a new sofa, new electronics, new garden furniture etc. They come home and had no idea we were there (Hmm) and are shamed by us having moved their stuff into one room to show them how much they have. Then we remove stuff, change others and leave some the same.

We challenge them to save say 2k for a house deposit. They sit on our new settee that's smaller than the one they chose for their family (four seater down to a two seater with kids....) and if they decide to keep it then they've saved 500 already!

Mrs "I only like Prada don'tcha know" has had her designer tracksuit that she bought for £400 last Tuesday taken away and has been given a £5 asda Smartprice specials "omg I love it! If only if known!" so the TV says they've saved £395 right there!

Bratty mcsqueals a lot can't believe theyve taken her make up away and given her poundland stuff which can't possibly match up to her high emd stuff and the same perfume that she adored but now is adamant that they've swapped it because she absolutely hates because it smells awful. She screams how awful it is at the presenters only to be told that it was the same perfume and they the make up swap has actually let her skin breathe and her previously awful caked in make up was clogging all her pores and ruining her skin. "omg I'm going to poundland tomorrow!" "£300 a year on make up saved!"

"here try this cheap kindle instead of your ipad! So much better!" "1000 saved if they accept the swap!"

It just doesn't work like that... They've already spent the cash and can't return stuff and repurchase and by the time they need a new settee they'll probably be back in their own ways again!

Such an irritating show!

Crunchymum · 10/09/2021 16:50

Escape to the Country.

If I never see another converted it will be too soon Grin

Agree with A Place in the Sun too. Why do they only ever have the budget for an apartment you have to use a telescope to see the sea?

Suits, but I am in love with Harvey Specter (before he turns into a wet blanket) so I can suffer it.

Mamette · 10/09/2021 16:50

This is the exact reason why I never started watching it, because seriously, how can they have made so many series out of it?!

I suspect muscly torsos in white vests distracted a lot of the audience for several series.

Not that I would know or anything.

catsareme14 · 10/09/2021 16:50

Having a fit of the giggles , proper cheered me up .

Location Location Location
Couple: We want somewhere near mum because she looks after the DC while we work
Phil: I've found a nice property in the Outer Hebrides

House was the one that sprang into my mind, too!
Mamette · 10/09/2021 16:52

Oh my god I’m crying at Iglesias piggle

Oh, muscly torsos you say? Well, I suppose I could watch one series, just to, you know, check it out...

ThinWomansBrain · 10/09/2021 16:53

BBC 4, the entire bloody channel

  • how do they find enough episodes of TOTP without dodgy 70's DJ's they have to avoid for legal reasons to keep the channel going?
Doubledeckers · 10/09/2021 16:54

Last of the Summer Wine (80s version)

  • sat around chatting
  • opportunity for mischief/fun/money making
  • not everyone thinks it’s a good idea
  • task goes wrong and there is a chase
  • minor injury but nothing too serious
  • all turns out in the end but not before Norah Batty has admonished Compo
