Inspired/copied/due to lack of my own ideas

What phrases/come backs/irritating things do people say on MN?

OP posts:
Helendee · 08/09/2021 09:06

“You got this”, especially when followed by “Mama”!

cheeseisnice · 08/09/2021 09:51

'My fanny just clamped shut at the thought of...'
Usually on the relationships board when discussing useless men. I don't know why but it makes me a little bit sick in my mouth. What's YOUR vagina got to do with this and why do we need a mental image of that? Gross. Confused

Now theres a saying I really hate and makes my eyes roll. The vagina comment is bad as well to be fair!

AryaStarkWolf · 08/09/2021 10:31

Yes that, s irritating, but i do like it when a poster smugly picks apart an Op, s Grammar or spelling and then proceeds to make a Grammatical or spelling error themselves

I'd never be brave enough to correct someone else's grammar Grin

I don't like people being a little bit sick in their mouths EnvyWink

I'm an avid user of ducks in a row in real life @DrSbaitso! I like the image of mum duck waddling ahead and her ducklings forming an orderly queue to follow her. Very organised

Keke94LND · 08/09/2021 10:44

Get to fuck

Can't stand it haha, what does it even mean

IcedPurple · 08/09/2021 11:01

Give your head a wobble.

Well, you sound nice.

You do realise...? (to which the answer invariably is, 'Yes I do realise')

Gratuious use of the c word. I've no problem with obscenity and have been known to utter some choice words myself, but on MN it seems to be used to make the poster sound really 'tough' and forthright, when they probably wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life.

Cocogreen · 08/09/2021 11:33

I always thought ducks in a row somehow was to do with a row of ducks in a shooting gallery...but can't understand how getting your affairs in order is anything to do with... shooting ducks?

It's from playing pool, when a ball lined up by a pocket for an easy shot is/was sometimes called a duck.

But I just like feathery ducks.

AryaStarkWolf · 08/09/2021 12:21

Oh the "Are you/Is he always this -insert negative trait here-"

AryaStarkWolf · 08/09/2021 12:23

I always assumed it was the mother duck getting her ducklings in a row (organised) before they head off to the pond or wherever ducks go Grin

rainbowandglitter · 08/09/2021 12:30

Get to fuck. Horrible horrible phrase

So did I! I was surprised when I looked it up. Or maybe there are multiple explanations.

I still like it even if others don't.

Anystarinthesky · 08/09/2021 12:42

'Just saying'

CatMandarin · 08/09/2021 12:43

I thought it was something to do with the hook a duck funfair game Grin

TheDistortion · 08/09/2021 12:44

@Walkingtheplank

'think'.

When someone wont give all the details and wants us to 'think' instead,
E.g. "He has a royal sounding name, think Harry, William, but not that."
Or "He drove an SUV, think Audi Q5 or Nissan Quashqai, but not one of those."

I dont want to "think", just tell me the story!

Even more annoying when the “think” is used so specifically the OP May as well just say what it is. “I was at a craft fair and I bought something, think small model of the Eiffel Tower covered in pink glitter”, “I was doing my hobby - think spelunking”
lifeinlimbo2020 · 08/09/2021 13:05

ZOMG 👈🏼 wtaf?!?!

DeborahAnnabel · 08/09/2021 13:37

“Sanpro” never heard this before.
“Upduffed”
“D” anything but most especially where it makes no sense eg DDog or DCat

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2021 13:41

Sanpro was around in the 70s, definitely not unique to MN.

Yes Smile. That caused me some confusion too. I hope it doesn't catch on!

Yes, saw that thread. I hope that doesn't catch on
Ajl46 · 08/09/2021 15:10

The "more milk tray, less flakes" thread title has set my inner pedant off. Flakes by definition are not continuous.

I thought it was going to be because it should be "fewer", not "less".
Bluesheep8 · 08/09/2021 15:14

Gives me the rage

And

A little bit sick in my mouth.
