To think this is actually really creepy?

I've just seen this viral post on the reddit front page. It was posted in a "Made Me Smile" section.

To me it seems very creepy! This bouncer, a stranger, took another drunk (vulnerable) stranger to their home, undressed them and put them to bed and then is happy to let them stay and use their home like a hotel? Bonkers!

Almost like the beginning of a serial killer film or something. The person tries to leave the house only to find they are locked in and can't escape.

To think this is actually really creepy?

@SenselessUbiquity

"Over-sized hoodies in the drawer" is creepy because the person who carefully type-set and printed this is imagining a pretty, confused, elf-like hungover female drifting downstairs with bare legs in his "over-sized hoodie", which is a recognisable TV / Movie trope which leaves to the imagination whether she is wearing anything under it or not.
Yes, and then meets Mr Spontaneous who did all this but may or not have food in the fridge - cue cosy home cooking / trip to local artisan cafe where he is known and loved ... all a fantasy.

(If you must rescue me, have breakfast in at least).

It's a clearly photoshopped image.

Yes, and the wi-fi sticker "somewhere in the living room"? Yes. Made up.

It's clearly bollocks, but the worrying thing is that it normalizes, even makes attractive, the idea of going home drunk with an unknown stranger, and getting undressed, because they are being "kind".

Women don't need to have that message sold to them.

This.

I don't believe this for one minute! You're telling me the 'bouncer', after taking home a drunk girl, putting her to bed and washing her clothes, presumably in the early hours of the morning, then spent time typing letter and printing it out?! What a load of rubbish!

Exactly!

And we don't need men thinking this is what you do with a drunk and vulnerable person.

I really hope it is fake. Otherwise it looks like a carefully thought out alibi...

Notjustanymum · 02/09/2021 11:17

This is right up there in the same league of how male writers write about women tbh - a “nice guy” fantasy about how to keep an intoxicated woman safe from all the “bad guys”.
Since a large number of women who appear mortalled have actually had their drink spiked, I would at least expect the ambulance service or the police to have been called. This is creepy AF.

Assuming it's genuine, and plenty of people think it is (There's no way I can read that on my phone) Do we know for certain that it's a male bouncer?

It's not genuine. But if it were supposed to be written by a woman, it wouldn't have the air of "don't worry, you're safe" and "I have rescued you" and it would most certainly have mentioned that the rescuer was a woman, if the point was to reassure the reader. There would also be more to wear than just huge hoodies.

@MedusasBadHairDay

If this happened to someone I knew I'd be telling them to go to the police tbh.
What do you think the police could charge them with?
