Center parcs - how would you split the cost of a lodge?

Room A: Single parent with 3 kids
Room B: Single adult (may possibly have one of the three kids in with them)
Room C: Single adult

For a three bedroom lodge, would you just split the cost per room, so a third each per adult and completely disregard the kids? No bitter feelings about anything, we've just never done it before and seek advice from people who have! Smile

Split cost per room and A pays lion’s share of any communal food purchases or buys drinks

Northpolesouthpole · 30/08/2021 13:26

@Perching

Accom cost split pay per room Food split per mouths to feed
I like this idea. The kids are big eaters! Grin

Will you be eating out or self catering?

maxiflump1 · 30/08/2021 13:28

I agree that you would struggle to sleep an adult and 3 children in one room at CP. we went a few years ago and there was hardly enough room to squeeze a travel cot down the side of the bed.

I'd imagine a mixture. I think it will only be a short break!

I don't understand how you all fit in? You can only get 2 in a room!

Northpolesouthpole · 30/08/2021 13:32

Anyone know which branch of Centre Parcs has the biggest rooms? Grin Ha ha. I would imagine it would go like this though:

Room A: Parent, DD6 and DS 20m
Room B: Adult, DD8
Room C: Adult (Alone... Feeling smug and sleeping like an angel)

If it's split into thirds, A needs to pay for their third. Plus half of b's third as they are sharing with a child. C can pay a third as they are getting a room to themselves.

toomuchlaundry · 30/08/2021 13:35

We splashed out once and had one which had ensuite bedrooms and I think the one with the double bed had slightly more floor space than others we had been in.

I think they’re pretty standardised across the parks, save maybe Whinfell Forest because that was built by a different company and taken over.

I took my DD when she was about 2 and managed to get a travel cot between the bed and the wall so 3 bed could work - you and DD6 share a bed, DS in travel cot in your room, and DD8 and other adult have a twin room?

Taswama · 30/08/2021 13:36

When we have gone away with multiple families we always split by number of rooms. Our kids can't share so need a room each and we don't want to share with either of them so are happy to pay for 3 rooms. Other family members have only one child and are happy to share with him/her so only need one room and contribute a lot less.

MauveMavis · 30/08/2021 13:37

Last group holiday I did with kids we split / adult.

I was the single adult in the (tiny) single room.

This felt fair as all the couples had luxurious doubles with space for cots etc. paid more.

The couple with no kids got the ensuite room as compensation.

Beware these issues can get contentious!

I generally don't mind chipping in for food for the kids (so would split a grocery / restaurant bill by the number of adults) but I know other single friends get aerated about it so better to discuss in advance and not assume.

When we go anywhere and if there are kids involved, be it accommodation or food, we always split between all the adults in the group. no problem with it once none of the adults hard up. When it self catering the parent of kids should have extra food there if kids hungry or wanting to snack. When out and about usually we would split. no problem with it as it time out from the norm and we all signed up to go. Enjoy the break

itsgettingwierd · 30/08/2021 13:47

I'd say split 3 ways purely because 1 adult wants their own room and should therefore pay 1/3 of cost for that. The LP is having to share with 3 kids due to this adult wanting their own room and should also then only have to pay 1/3.

The 3rd adult willing to share with a child actually then looses out I guess financially.

Could the adult who wants own room pay 1/3.

Then the other 2 ads and 3 children split remaining cost 60/40.
On that the 2 adults share a twin and the kids have the other room. So the parent pays 60 of the remaining?

BeyondMyWits · 30/08/2021 13:51

The rooms at CP in no way have equal "value" though.

I would presume the single adult would not get the choice of the king-size with tons of floor space and spa bath ensuite... as it would probably sleep the single parent + 2 kids in bed (or 1 plus a camp bed at the foot and a travel cot at the side. The lone adult sleeping alone would get the cramped tiny room off the living room (other layouts exist) so when the kids wake early they get to put up with the noise ...

Jumpingintosummer · 30/08/2021 13:57

I would suggest 1/3 each. Pay for own food when eating out.
If I was the mum I would insist on buying breakfast things, snacks and drinks for the lodge as a thank you.

England101 · 30/08/2021 14:21

I thinks splitting the cost 3 ways is unfair as the adult in room one has four people on their team and is taking up 1 and a half rooms! Whilst one adult has to share with a child who isn’t theres and another adult has a room to themselves. A fairer way would be the adult/parent in room 1 pay 50%, adult in room 2 pay 20% ( a lower rate because they have to share with a child who isn’t theirs) and adult in room 3 pay 30% ( a bit more for having a room to themselves)

Eralos · 30/08/2021 14:24

Just 3 ways.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 30/08/2021 14:27

Split lodge per room
Split food per person (kids pay half of the adult rates)

Dollywilde · 30/08/2021 14:28

Per room. To simplify, we went away when DD was small with my Dsis and BIL. DD was in a cot in our room, we had a 2 bed lodge so they paid 50% and we paid 50%. Next time we go away we will need a 3 bed as DD has own room, so we pay 66% and they 33% (they actually are paying less than the 1st holiday and us not tonnes more due to economies of scale!)

So assuming the 3 adults aren’t in a couple with another of the 3 adults, I’d split it 3rds. And a nice treat for an adult who is willing to share with a kid and who isn’t theirs if it comes to it!

CallMeRisley · 30/08/2021 14:28

@ChocBeforeCock The OP is one of the single adults, not the parent with the three children.

Floralnomad · 30/08/2021 14:29

I think you need 4 bedrooms , then split it 40:30:30 , with the 2 older kids sharing a room .

nokidshere · 30/08/2021 14:31

If we go away with family (very rarely) we split the cost between adults regardless of rooms or children to sleep/feed.

maddening · 30/08/2021 14:32

If it is family eg gran, 2 daughters and 3 grandkids I would go per room.

Food split per person.
