Is SIL being a CF?

We live in a seaside area and every summer holiday, without fail, SIL comes up with some convoluted reason why her 3 DC (my nephews and niece) should come to stay with us for an extended period. They're aged between 10-13, so in a way it's nice for my DD to have some company her own age, but at the same time I do feel like she's being a bit of a CF here, as she expects me to feed them - and they all eat ENORMOUS meals and they do have a habit of going off and getting into scrapes so I'm forever worrying about them.

My eldest nephew is somewhat opinionated and does try and tell my DD - who is saying she wants to identify as a boy, but that's another thread - what to do, which inevitably leads to a row. Dniece is sweet , but does tend to cry and get upset easily. My husband is a scientist and works ridiculously long hours, so it's just me doing everything, and we also have a large dog who needs a lot of exercise.

AIBU to tell SIL that I can no longer have them all in the school holidays?

Actually EB gets things confused on more than one occasion. Yes, the island is Fanny’s, as is surrounding land and the cottage, but George’s surname is Kirrin, and so, in most of the books, is Julian, Dick and Anne’s. (Though in at least one — I think one of the ones where they go off in a caravan — it’s Barnard. We’re definitely told in the first book that Quentin and J, D and A’s father are brothers, and later on that Fanny and the others’ mother are sisters. EB just got mixed up.

Couldn't possibly comment on your situation op.
I just pack my kids of to boarding school and in the holidays they spend all their time in the playhouse inventing cockamany stories about a magic rocking chair and the places it could take them.
Parenting is just too easy yawn

Much discussion here about it! enidblytonsociety.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1977&start=75

Gosh have you still got a large dog? They’ve fallen out of fashion, you know. The 1950’s are calling, they want you back.

@PallasStrand Thank you! I was just going to comment that they all had the surname 'Kirrin' so, Uncle Quentin and J,D and A's dads must be brothers.

OP I think you need to talk to your SIL and BIL. Do they ever see their children?! Boarding school during term time then they're dumped on you in the holidays. And they don't even check on them after all the adventures they go through! Pretty piss poor parenting if you ask me.

Quentin should be on Love Island. In a mankini. They could film on Kirrin! They certainly could. Quentin would be the brooding cantankerous cunty presenter.
He was! In the old Comic Strip skit 'Five go Mad on Mescalin'. Fanny was a relentless nymphomaniac and Quentin a screaming homosexual 🤣

Good effort, Aunt Fanny... Grin

cherrytree63 · 30/08/2021 10:19

Not sending my kids this year. Why you can't fess up and be honest that Quentin is in prison, and last year he injected the boiled eggs with mescalin.

I will have to watch this.

This sounds awful. Even worse is that they never seem to get any older so it looks like you’re going to be subjected to this every summer holiday for the rest of eternity…

Don't get too excited. 'Five go Mad in Dorset' was a lot funnier!

Thanks @PallasStrand and good spot @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies - it was it being called Kirrin Island that made me assume it was Quentin's! That and many years since reading

@Cantbelieveit101

You need to stand up for your daughter. If you allow her family to be rude to her how are you going to protect her with the rest of society.
It's all right, the OP is going to send her dd to an all girls boarding school (the one the girl cousin goes to) so that she can learn flower arranging and how to conform to the patriarchy. She might revert to type in the (many, many) holidays though.
