And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

OP posts:

Basically we think our grandparents names are old fashioned, but to our own children they are cute and unusual because they never grew up hearing them.
I found the resurgence of Charlie, Edward, Alfie, Stanley etc quite jarring at first and to me I couldn't imagine a baby with that moniker, because I always related it to old men.
Our children don't have that same connection. To them grandparents are called Gary, Kevin, Neil, Barbara ,Julie and Sharon so to them those names are now the old people names. I think that why we are seeing 50's names like peggy and nancy and ada etc making a comeback.

Lots of children of the previous generation, particularly boys, were named after their Dad or Grandad, names that ran in the family. Nowadays they seem to make up names and spelling, with symbols instead of letter (I don't just mean the Tesla man)

DappledThings · 29/08/2021 15:53

@lunkitsmum

Almost every woman my generation from uk born late 70s early 80s I know has the middle name Louise, all the others were Marie.
I'm that generation and agree about Louise but never knew a Marie I don't think. My year nearly all had the middle name Louise or Elizabeth (including me)
LakieLady · 29/08/2021 15:56

@Cryalot2

Don't like Sharon, Karen or Tracy. Nor Glenda, Petula, Edith Yvonne or Pansy. But no doubt they will make a comeback. So many names Dora, Martha, Pricilla, Carole Kathleen Veronica Olga Frances
There were 3 girls called Frances in my year at school (born mid-50s), and I've met very few others.

It seems like it hasn't been in fashion for 70 years!

Goingoutinthecar · 29/08/2021 15:59

I also went to school with an Elspeth and a Veronica , but I cant see those coming back..

My 5 year old is called Elspeth. Smile

CaveMum · 29/08/2021 16:15

I know a Bernard who is about 3. I was informed of his birth by email (the father is a Trustee on the Board of the company I work for). Still in the dark as to whether he is a “Ber-nerd” or a “Ber-naard”.

ScienceSensibility · 29/08/2021 16:18

I love Joanne/Joanna, plus Margaret/Marguerite.

So nice not to have those twee names that all end in ie or ee....

AustralianDad7 · 29/08/2021 16:22

Honestly with names like Blanket and Rainbow in the mix now, I would welcome back Pythagorus

My cousin called her baby Agnes a couple of years ago...each to their own I guess but I didn't see that making a comeback tbh!

MeredithGreyishblue · 29/08/2021 16:32

@ChocolateCakeYum

A friend of mine has an 8 year old called Norman.
Are you Fireman Sam? Grin
Myonlysunshine123 · 29/08/2021 16:33

@OhSmellyCatSmellyCat
Both of my kids (9&13) have friends called Kevin, they're Polish boys. So its around. Julia is popular too. Sylvia is a pretty name

Myonlysunshine123 · 29/08/2021 16:34

Agnes is awesome, I can see myself shouting "Aggy, teas ready"Grin

MeredithGreyishblue · 29/08/2021 16:34

Keith, Denise and Brian. Elaine, Shirley, Linda. Alan.
Are these coming back?

AustralianDad7 · 29/08/2021 16:38

Now how many kids are named after Fireman Sam, Thomas the Tank or Shaun the Sheep? Sesame Street never got many Bert, Ernie or Elmo's

MyPatronusIsACat · 29/08/2021 16:44

Well names like Edna, Hilda, Martha, and Mabel etc have made a comeback recently. There haven't been anyone called these names (hardly) for a century.

I thought these names were awful for young kiddies up until about 3 years ago, but I love them now.

Can't get on board with Tracey or Sharon though, (for babies.) Or even Linda or Joanne. Ask me again in 2023! Grin

Also, boys called Neil, Trevor, and Gary? Ummm no. Again - ask me in 2023. Grin

Don't know what names may return though @FortunesFave Possibly a few more 1930s/1940s names. (Like Maureen, Sylvia, Patricia etc...)

CathyTre · 29/08/2021 16:49

My parents are very conservative with a small c steady types and I was born in the late 70s - And my middle name is not Louise, Marie or Jane!

My middle name is Naomi.

I feel different and special now 😂😂

BastardMonkfish · 29/08/2021 16:53

I have a terrible name of the Sandra/Kevin/Linda type and I'm excited for it to become cool again Blush

MsMoody · 29/08/2021 17:00

We have a 20 year old at work called Karen. Was a shock at first based on her age but it’s grown on me!

Jux · 29/08/2021 17:02

Comedycook · 29/08/2021 17:03
