And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

I know a teenage Tracy. It has no negative connotations for kids.

WeirdArchitecture · 31/08/2021 00:37

I'm Louise.
Just Louise, on it's own, no frills.
Born mid seventies and recall going into the 80's when everyone starting using it as a middle name.
Ive only ever known one other Louise as an only name.

Many people have called me Lou (not my family though) or Louie and as a child I felt awkward when people asked could they use the loo....it sort of makes me side-eye my own name Grin

WeirdArchitecture · 31/08/2021 00:41

At the other end of the scale, I recently heard of an old lady in her 90's called Kelly. Stuck me as an odd name for someone of that age

yacketyyak · 31/08/2021 01:28

I also know a few baby Hugo's
But imagine a baby Brian.
I know a baby called Enda and a toddler called Tony. So weird. When I hear his name being called I expect to see a man in overalls with a mate called Dave

@Sadik

I'm always tickled by the lettuce varieties Brian and Maureen - who breeds a lettuce, and then christens it Brian Confused ?
Shock Rabid vegetarian salad muncher here. I want to grow me A Lettuce Named Brian!

A great source of olde worlde names is Escape To The Country, which I've been watching too much of while in lockdown:

Graeme and Pauline
Wendy and Nigel
Lynette and Bernie
Trevor and Sheryl
Gary and Gaylene
Derek and Renee

Never a Hugo or an Abigail; those names are all in school round my way.

Not keen on shortened names
Rob
Becca
Alfie
That sort, call full name, child then has an option.

How could I forget ... Gary, Barry, Keith, Malcolm, Colin, Alan, Nigel and Grahams' of the 60's era!
Linda, Norma, Susan, Jane, June, Jill, Jean, Irene, Ilene...

My elder relatives names'...
Beryl, Mavis, Margorie, Ada, Joshua, Wilfred, Jack, Reg, Enid, Violet (Vi), Doreen, Jim, Gordon, Joan, Kenneth, Herbert, Edna, Mary, Ethyl, Nora, Albert, George and Hilary....phew!

Puddycatfan · 31/08/2021 08:25

My name is on the list of "really shit names for children born in the 70's". I bloody hate it. Only family call me by it, my friends and work call me by a nickname.
I remember my dad telling me that they had toyed with the idea of the Scottish version or Kirsty instead, but nope, they chose the shit one...

Lickedmylollyandneversaidsorry · 31/08/2021 14:30

I knew of a beautiful little girl ......called Vivian!
I also knew of a baby named Nigel who I meet at a baby group.

Hemingwaycat · 31/08/2021 14:32

It’s really weird thinking about babies being called Sharon and Simon. I’m sure the names will come back at some point but I just find it weird because the names are definitely associated with people born in the 50-70s.

Hemingwaycat · 31/08/2021 14:33

There is a Malcolm in my DC’s school, think he’s in year 1. Also a Travis which my Mum thinks is really cool.

COPPER3 · 31/08/2021 15:00

Cyril, Maurice..
