And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

Agree Tracy deserves a come back.

I think Grace Kelly’s character in High Society was Tracy.

merrymouse · 30/08/2021 19:40

I also want Janet and Susan to return.

Also people should start using Darrell.

ThistleTits · 30/08/2021 19:43

@PasstheBucket89

oh dear, I'm a late 80s baby I wonder when Rebecca, Amy and Laura will be making comebacks x
My 3 year old granddaughter is called Rebecca, big brother is Archie and little sister I'd Georgia. Tbf Archie is a family name but she liked it anyway.
NormanSicily · 30/08/2021 19:45

@BlossomToes When I had first DC in 2010 I was in a ward with three other mums and babies, two boys and a girl, and all called Riley!

Bambi77 · 30/08/2021 19:51

I like Lana or Janae

LadyCarolineDester · 30/08/2021 19:57

@Standrewsschool

I’d be surprised by Sharon and Tracey, or Kevin for a boy, as these were cliche, arch-typical, 70s names, names that later got mocked.
Sharon and Tracey were more 60s names, I’d say.
Yesitsbess · 30/08/2021 19:59

@ballroompink Baby Bev! Delightful!

They were mocked in the eighties. Somebody who is 30 now won't remember that. People born in the 2000s certainly won't.

@CounsellorTroi

In Tudor times seemingly everyone was called Jane, Anne, Mary, Catherine or Elizabeth.
And in Jane Austen novels.

Though I guess Fanny will not be coming back.

Clawdy · 30/08/2021 20:09

And in Tudor times most men were Thomas, William or Richard!

Yesitsbess · 30/08/2021 20:12

BRING BACK FANNY!

ForAFriend123 · 30/08/2021 20:13

I work with several Karen's, Carol's, Lynne's and Angela's. makes me smiles, clearly popular names in the 60's! Grin

VanishingAct · 30/08/2021 20:13

The actress who plays Camille in Call My Agent is called Fanny. And on Vogue's youtube channel recently they had a very chic Fanny (lolz) giving a tour of her beautiful apartment. I'd google the heck out of any name to make sure it travelled well internationally.

Yesitsbess · 30/08/2021 20:17

Who doesn't love a chic Fanny? Was she American? She's then essentially called "Bum".

VanishingAct · 30/08/2021 20:19

Oh no she was another chic Parisian Fanny.

Yesitsbess · 30/08/2021 20:24

Oooh la la!

Optionnumber2 · 30/08/2021 20:25

Three of my mum’s neighbours are called Jean. All in their 70s/80s. Husbands were Brian, Peter and Norman.

Janet, Denise, Anne-Marie and Christine are other names I can’t imagine being used now.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 30/08/2021 20:31

I know a little Jean, really like it!

My contribution to the thread is a 5yo Eugene. Lovely lad.

There’s a famous Fanny Street in Cardiff. Name of a Victorian councillor’s wife or daughter.
TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 30/08/2021 20:39

All the girls at my school were Sarah, Clare, Emma, Laura, Joanne, Nicola, Hayley, Lisa, Rebecca and Caroline.

NigellaSeed · 30/08/2021 20:40

God most of the names mentioned above are just awful. Please no more Sharon's, Patsy's or Tracey's. Ever. Envy not envy

Yesitsbess · 30/08/2021 20:48

Clive! Do we have any tiny Clives?

merrymouse · 30/08/2021 20:51

Why? Remove them from period specific connotations and there is very little difference between Lucy and Tracy.

For some older people names like ‘Daisy’ were common, but for younger people that link just doesn’t exist. Probably in 40 years, as it’s been a popular name, it will suggest somebody in their 50’s or 60’s, just as Brian suggests an older man now. However that won’t last forever.

Overtired201984 · 30/08/2021 20:54

I don’t mind Joanna or Joanne at all , Amy still seems popular and I’ve known too many Lauras all of which don’t really relate me to good times or things in my life 🤣 !

Tracey should never come back , without stereotyping I’ve never met a Tracey that isn’t similar to another Tracey…. Loud
