And it's not after a relative, she just likes it. Is this it for us over 40s? Are there going to be loads of little Lynns and Sharons running round soon?

What other names are we about to see!?

OP posts:
Bellee11 · 30/08/2021 17:55

I teach loads of Amy's, Amiee's, Amie's and Aimee's.

Bellee11 · 30/08/2021 17:58

I've always wondered if the name Graham will make a come back. I just can't imagine a baby Graham!

abigailthespiderinthehat · 30/08/2021 17:59

@Laska2Meryls

I also went to school with an Elspeth and a Veronica , but I cant see those coming back..
Elspeth is what I was going to call my baby! He turned out to be a boy though! Smile
Tictocrobot · 30/08/2021 17:59

My mother in law keeps asking why people have recently been naming their babies after 1950s charwomen Grin I haven’t asked her which names she means

sassymum67 · 30/08/2021 18:00

Deborah

peachykeenjellybaby · 30/08/2021 18:08

I used to work with a Jo-anne.
Stress on the Jo not anne. Very east london type

Also know a few called jwanne (one syllable)

Meatshake · 30/08/2021 18:09

I could see a few Carolines appearing next year after the sweet Caroline song from the football🤔

I know a baby Gray and a toddler Grayson, so might not be a big stretch to see some Grahams @Bellee11

OhGiveUp · 30/08/2021 18:11

After the recent demonisation, I can't imagine the name Karen becoming popular again.

DonaPatrizia · 30/08/2021 18:14

Here is a message from the punctuation police. You don’t need to use an apostrophe with a plural.
Sophie’s Choice: correct usage, it’s a possessive. Lots of little Sophie’s: incorrect usage, it’s a plural.

jo3009 · 30/08/2021 18:18

I am a Joann (no e) , I love my name, didn't realise it was classed as an old name. I named my daughter Jennifer, I like that she is the only Jennifer in her school.

False equivalence. Singular Sophie’s choice. Plural (more than one Sophie) Sophies’ choice.

@Toomuchtooyoung01

Mid 80s baby here, literally every second girl I went to school with was Joanna/Joanne, Jennifer, Sarah, Laura or Lisa Most common boys names were David, Matthew and Daniel.
Yes, my youngest DD is a Joanna from the mid '80s and a friend called her DD Joanne in the '70s but I actually don't know any other Joanne/Joannas at all. We tried to choose names for all my DC that were not common in the local area. And I'm not aware of either coming in the top 10 of names in living memory ?
haliborange0verdose · 30/08/2021 18:26

I was born mid-70s and pretty much all of my friends were called one of:
Rachel
Rebecca
Sarah
Claire
Alex (Alexandra)
Joanne
Jane
Emma
And almost everyone had the middle name Louise!
My mum chose a name for me that was at peak popularity 20 years before I was born... How I longed for a trendy, contemporary name!!!!

Vivianebrookskoviak · 30/08/2021 18:29

Haha, my real name isn't there and although it's more popular now than it was when I was a child there's a lot of mid 80s girls with my name(popular TV series at the time had a character with the name) although I'm a bit older and not the same exact origin although still TV related. But I've had every misspelling going. So much so I never bothered to correct someone years ago who called me something completely different still thinks I'm called that, I'll bet!
Ooh, that reminds me, a friend once was told they'd picked a really unusual name for their daughter only to be told it wasn't as I lived on the same road at the time!
Apparently the last person to be named Gary was born in 1992 I heard, not sure if it's true but most people of a certain age would associate that name with Only Fools and Horses these days.

Names I'd like to see again-
Lynda
Jane
Jackie
Kevin
Trevor
Eric

Names I've personally always disliked-
Chardonnay
Ryan
Janine (Never met a nice one, ever! Sorry to anyone with that name! )

My son was born in 1975. All three baby girls born the same day were named Claire Louise. I’d have changed my mind if I’d been their mother!
haliborange0verdose · 30/08/2021 18:29

@x2boys

Some names should never make a comeback imo, imagine giving birth to a beautiful baby boy and lovingly calling them Derek.
I have a cat named Derek! To be fair, he was named by the charity we adopted him from, but still, everyone always laughs when they hear his name as it's so "of its time". When we adopted a second cat, I wanted to call him a similar name so I was suggesting Brian, Roy, Kenneth etc, but my kids outvoted me!

That poster was referring to this post:

It's surprising that a teacher has not mastered basic punctuation.

Who was that dig aimed at?

It's not a dig, it's a fact. Surely you can work out who it's a response to from the post.
bellocchild · 30/08/2021 18:36

Susans, Beverlys and Jennifers are overdue a revival. And Patricias. Gary, Ian, and Keith for boys? Must be time for Hayleys and Darrens too.

Vivianebrookskoviak · 30/08/2021 18:37

I went to school with(end of the 80s)-
Rebecca
Amanda
Lisa
Katie
Tracey
Jade
Bridget
Elizabeth
Kerry
Louise
Emma
Victoria
Michelle
(Oops, just practically listed all the girls in my primary school class..bit outing!)
My best friend at high school was a Rachael (spelt like that) and I knew of a Joanne but she was a good few years older so maybe near 50 now so I don't think it's a modern name.

amispeakingenglish · 30/08/2021 18:39

Gail, Joy, Wendy, Mandy, Jill, Gillian, Elaine, Colin, Martin, Gary, Len, Jane, David, sally, Roseann (a) Rosalind, Kerry, Charles, Nicholas,

These are all born late 50 and teens in 70s + Zillah Tony Terry Jeremy, Pam, Patricia Jacqueline Julie (pop due to Julie Andrews) Penny, Ruth, Diane, Paul last two early 60s. Hazel was 30s and 50s too also Rhoda, my grandmother so early 1900.

Pliudev · 30/08/2021 18:44

Can I request that no parents, now or in the future call their baby Pauline? I don't suppose I need worry but the thought of some innocent being lumbered, as I am, is appalling.

User56439876 · 30/08/2021 18:44

Michael, Andrew, Mark, Alan, Colin, Gary, John, Nigel, Carol, Helen, Jayne, Susan were popular when I was at school - born 1958
