To take her back to hospital?

Mylifeisacircus · 29/08/2021 08:51

My two year old had a bad fall off the top of my son's bunk bed, DH took her to hospital pretty quick after because her wrist looked odd and she struggled with it. We have a video of it (monitor in son's room caught it) and it looks like it straight snapped.
Hospital gave her some medicine, felt her wrist, saw she booked up a book (?) And sent her home without an Xray.
Two days later it's still swollen, slightly bent, she can't use it, can't feed herself, can't put pressure on it, can't really move her fingers, hurts to get her dressed.
I don't want to waste hospital time but I feel like they should of atleast x-rayed it? However it's not very bruised which makes me feel like she might not of broke something.
Would you take her back and ask for an Xray? IV attached a picture in the hope someone will be able to tell me if it looks abit broke. Her hand doesn't leave that position

Absolutely take her back. Can't believe they didn't x-ray it

ketchupman · 29/08/2021 08:54

Have you got a minor injuries unit nearby? Some have x-ray facilities and would be much quicker

WhatisanODP · 29/08/2021 08:54

Why on Earth didn’t they X-ray it?

Deffo take her back!

HoldingTheDoor · 29/08/2021 08:54

Poor girl. I'd definitely take her back.

6demandingchildren · 29/08/2021 08:55

I would be leaving now and insisting on an x-ray as it really doesn't look right.

WisestIsShe · 29/08/2021 08:55

You know her best. If you think something is wrong definitely take her back.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 29/08/2021 08:57

Take her back, poor baby. I can't believe either the attitude and not requesting and X-ray.
This is how abuse in children is missed. Not saying OP that this is the case in your situation but in general.

Undertheoldlindentree · 29/08/2021 09:00

Our local walk-in centre does x-rays. If you have one of these go v. early though. Waiting times increase dramatically from about 10am. We had a four and a half hour wait recently - A&E was 8-9 hour wait on that day (they tell you both times at the walk- in, so people can make decisions about what to do).

Heronwatcher · 29/08/2021 09:03

Go back, she needs an X ray.

Theunamedcat · 29/08/2021 09:03

Can you show the film footage to them?

timeisnotaline · 29/08/2021 09:05

Take her back!! She needs an X-ray.

one2 · 29/08/2021 09:05

Definitely take her back and insist on an X-ray. This is my DS a few weeks ago in A&E before X-ray, it was a bad break but common break. Looks like a similar bend to your DD's arm. Sweet thing, I hope you get her seen too asap and they take things seriously this time. Please don't feel like you are wasting anyone's time, trust your gut!

mummyh2016 · 29/08/2021 09:05

If you go to MIU call them to check they're doing X-rays, our local one doesn't do them on weekends so you will automatically be sent to the A+E in the next town in that case.

Mylifeisacircus · 29/08/2021 09:06

I think I'm going to take her to a different hospital this morning and I'l show them the footage. I just don't know if it looks like a sprain or not

Definitely go back for another check.

WilsonandNoodles · 29/08/2021 09:10

A two year old would have long forgotten about it unless it was still really hurting so I think it definitely needs checking. Even if it isn't broken they could perhaps strap it up and make it feel more comfortable for her.

Bluepop09 · 29/08/2021 09:14

Defo take her back, my daughter had hardly any bruising with her broken wrist. Let us know how she gets on.

BabyPotato · 29/08/2021 09:15

It doesn't look right does it. I'd definitely take her back.

ittakes2 · 29/08/2021 09:21

I am also shocked they didn't xray. Children's bones are still flexible and they get what is called green stick fractures - the bone bends rather than necessarily breaking as such. My son was holding his arm at a funny angle after hurting it in school and the teachers said they weren't worried about it being broken because he hadn't cried enough...but as soon as I saw the angle I took him straight to minor injuries and yep he had a greenstick fracture and they put a plaster cast on.
Off the top of a bunk bed is a huge fall - I hope you have been able to change things so she can't climb up again.

DahliaDaisy · 29/08/2021 09:23

I can’t believe they didn’t X-ray her arm! That is completely unacceptable. Take her back this morning. Poor thing.

Hellocatshome · 29/08/2021 09:26

Yes I would say possibly a greenstick fracture (not a Doctor) take her back.

MissTrip82 · 29/08/2021 09:29

Take her back. It’s always ok to ask questions such as ‘can you explain what it is that tells you this isn’t fractured’ or ‘can you explain why this doesn’t need to be imaged’.

As always, ignore anyone who has no grasp of the indications or contraindications for Paediatric exposure to radiation, could not interpret a Paediatric X-ray if their life depended on it, and has no idea of the examination findings telling you what should or shouldn’t have happened.

olympicsrock · 29/08/2021 09:29

I am a doctor with orthopaedics and ED experience . The allignment is wrong and looks broken to me. Like to be a free stick fracture but would need a splint.
Go back...

Houseofvelour · 29/08/2021 09:32

I hope she's ok and the drs X-ray her today xx

Christmasfairy2020 · 29/08/2021 09:35

Don't you have a minor injuries unit. They are monitored by advanced nurses and hace Xrays. Usually quicker as well
