To take her back to hospital?

My two year old had a bad fall off the top of my son's bunk bed, DH took her to hospital pretty quick after because her wrist looked odd and she struggled with it. We have a video of it (monitor in son's room caught it) and it looks like it straight snapped.
Hospital gave her some medicine, felt her wrist, saw she booked up a book (?) And sent her home without an Xray.
Two days later it's still swollen, slightly bent, she can't use it, can't feed herself, can't put pressure on it, can't really move her fingers, hurts to get her dressed.
I don't want to waste hospital time but I feel like they should of atleast x-rayed it? However it's not very bruised which makes me feel like she might not of broke something.
Would you take her back and ask for an Xray? IV attached a picture in the hope someone will be able to tell me if it looks abit broke. Her hand doesn't leave that position

To take her back to hospital?

Poor mite, hope she feels better now it's in a cast. I would complain to the first hospital, do you have a discharge letter from them. I would contact PALS and the A&E consultant Director in charge.

Flipping heck, that's pretty shocking really. I can't believe they didn't do an X-ray 😮

Take her back

Dd had a fall on a trampoline aged 2, and she had an x-ray done.

Doctors declared it all clear and off we went but she was still refusing to put any weight on her leg

Took her back a couple of days later to a different unit of the same trust, and they viewed the same x-ray and spotted a hairline fracture

Not enough to need a cast, but enough to explain why she’s in pain and not weight bearing

Blush

Serves me right for not RTFT

I would put a complain in with the original hospital. How can they not have done an X-ray and missed 3 fractures?!

Disgusting

Staffy1 · 29/08/2021 16:58

Wow, awful that they missed that and didn’t do an X-ray. Would have thought it was standard to do one in a case like this. Which hospital was it?

ohfourfoxache · 29/08/2021 17:02

FFS Angry

Please please feed this back to the first hospital (and let your GP know - they might want to follow this up via the CCG)

God this makes me so angry, they should have just done an x Ray

HyacynthBucket · 29/08/2021 17:18

Hi. I hope your little one is feeling OK now. Well done for getting the Xray. Three years ago I hurt my wrist after falling on it. The triage nurse in A&E said I did not need an Xray. So after two weeks of pain that did not improve, the GP sent me for a Xray at the same hospital. The wrist was broken.

LibbyL92 · 29/08/2021 17:23

I went over in my ankle on Friday. Still in lots of pain today. Went to A&e. They looked at it but said they’ll absolutely do an x-ray to be sure.

So definitely go back!! I can’t believe they haven’t done that.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 29/08/2021 17:24

That’s a fairly classic presentation of a lower arm break! I can’t believe the first hospital didn’t x-ray that. I’d definitely make a complaint.

Mylifeisacircus · 29/08/2021 20:13

@Staffy1 it was Bradford royal infirmary that we went to first, we went to Leeds general for the xray

Put in a formal complaint via PALS. www.bdct.nhs.uk/about-us/feedback/

Hope she feels better soon.

ICantFindTheBuffet · 30/08/2021 10:21

Massive well done to you for taking her back. I'm sure you're feeling awful that she was in pain this whole time, I would be, but know that she's now on the mend thanks to you, not those idiot doctors. They'd be the first to complain if a parent ignored something like this, so absolutely make sure to complain about them. Glad your little girl is getting sorted and you can rest easier now.

I really hope you take this advice, OP.

Thank goodness you reconsidered and asked for advice on here.

Hugs to your little girl. 🤗

Hi OP. I used to be an A+E nurse until recently. Please complain to the 1st hospital you went to. Thats appalling care. Not because you want to get someone into trouble, but to stop this kind of thing happening again.

peachgreen · 30/08/2021 12:03

This made me feel sick, poor little thing. I'm very pro-NHS and rarely recommend complaining but I absolutely would in this instance - this should not be allowed to happen again.
