To take her back to hospital?

Mylifeisacircus · 29/08/2021 08:51

My two year old had a bad fall off the top of my son's bunk bed, DH took her to hospital pretty quick after because her wrist looked odd and she struggled with it. We have a video of it (monitor in son's room caught it) and it looks like it straight snapped.
Hospital gave her some medicine, felt her wrist, saw she booked up a book (?) And sent her home without an Xray.
Two days later it's still swollen, slightly bent, she can't use it, can't feed herself, can't put pressure on it, can't really move her fingers, hurts to get her dressed.
I don't want to waste hospital time but I feel like they should of atleast x-rayed it? However it's not very bruised which makes me feel like she might not of broke something.
Would you take her back and ask for an Xray? IV attached a picture in the hope someone will be able to tell me if it looks abit broke. Her hand doesn't leave that position

To take her back to hospital?

Kids don't tend to swell and bruise with breaks like adults do. Or at least that's what a Dr told my mum when I snapped my wrist and mum didn't take me for a week as there was no swelling despite being bent.

Definitely take her back. 2 year olds are too short memoried to have carried on for several days without being real

AfternoonToffee · 29/08/2021 09:47

Poor poppet, that looks painful. Hope you get seen quickly.

Quick99 · 29/08/2021 09:51

Rubbish that they didn't do an x Ray already bless her - definitely go back op

Peanutsandchilli · 29/08/2021 10:25

Gosh yes, definitely take her back. It doesn't look right to me. Fwiw, my daughter fell off a bouncy castle and broke her wrist, and you wouldn't have known without an x-ray as it looked perfectly normal, no swelling etc. I hope she's ok, poor little thing x

FinallyFluid · 29/08/2021 10:30

Hope you are being seen now.

immy784 · 29/08/2021 11:50

Hope she is all ok, I agree her wrist doesn't look right, hope they x Ray it!

Mylifeisacircus · 29/08/2021 14:32

We've taken her to a different hospital, they said straight away it didn't look right and they've x-rayed her, just waiting for results

Hope you are waiting too much longer, but at least it was x-rayed this time.

AfternoonToffee · 29/08/2021 14:39

Aren't waiting.

It would be very cruel to wish you a long wait. Blush

lannistunut · 29/08/2021 14:39

Glad you took her back!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 29/08/2021 14:47

That needs an x Ray, it's really hard to tell with young children. Can she squeeze things? Give her a handful of playdoh to squish. If she can't do it then it's likely broken.

Mylifeisacircus · 29/08/2021 15:35

She ended up with three fractures :( she's got a cast on and shel go back in a few weeks

Bless her! So pleased you went back. I think it's worth contacting the first hospital so they can review the care she was given.

Barkingdog · 29/08/2021 15:41

She'll hopefully feel more comfortable now she has a cast on.

Well done for taking her back, and that sounds like a complaint for the other day.
Floralnomad · 29/08/2021 15:43

@Mylifeisacircus please make sure you write a complaint ( formal) to the other hospital , that is absolutely appalling , poor little thing .

EKGEMS · 29/08/2021 15:52

I sincerely hope she heals quickly with minimal pain and well done for advocating for your sweet girl. I hope you can register a complaint about the other hospital

Sorry to hear that. She’ll prob heal quickly as young bones do. Make sure you complain to the first hospital if you can.
AfternoonToffee · 29/08/2021 16:00

Oh poor little thing, hopefully it will start to heal now.

The 'picking up a book' thing is ridiculous, how many times on posts about fractures have there been tales of how a child has walked around on a broken leg (for example)

PreacherTeacher · 29/08/2021 16:02

Good on you for trusting your instincts. Wishing your daughter a speedy recovery.

mineofuselessinformation · 29/08/2021 16:05

You absolutely should complain.
It's a classic presentation and is otherwise called a swan neck fracture because of the distinctive shape.

Dobbyafreeelf · 29/08/2021 16:07

I'm not usually one for saying complain but in this case you absolutely should. That's appalling that they didn't X-ray her arm!
Well done for trusting your instincts!

purplesequins · 29/08/2021 16:07

I'm so glad you got her seen again.

just having the cast will take so much pain away.

and yes, complain. not doing the x-ray at the first appointment was really bad medical care.

Princessdebthe1st · 29/08/2021 16:08

Dear OP,
I hope she recovers ok. They may already have done so but check with the second hospital that they will alert the first hospital that they missed the fracture. They need to review what happened and ensure they learn from it to reduce the chance of it happening again. Alternatively you could raise a compliant with them directly if you want a response from them.
