More posting for traffic.

Husband is about to turn 40. Has zero interests but beet and football and gym. I'd season tickets holder for his team and done all tours.

Absolutely stuck what to get him. Would like to get him something good as he's been really supportive this year with some stuff.

Had an idea of 40 presents but thinking of reasonably (cheaper) things to bump that up isn't easy. Clothes/ beer are on list already.

He doesn't read, not bothered by music, doesn't do DIY/gadgets or gaming etc.

Has a good watch already.

I've planned a night out for him and he'd hate a surprise party.

Help?!!!!'

The problem with 40 presents, especially if it’s not something he’d naturally use or jokey ones is you end up with 40 pieces of crap hanging around the house waiting for you to admit defeat and find a bin bag.

We tend to do holidays for big birthdays and upgrade either the accommodation or the destination.

RuthTopp · 29/08/2021 08:31

Weekend away , just the two of you if you have dcs.

Northernparent68 · 29/08/2021 08:31

Book him on a beer tasting course, or a trip to a football stadium

BaconAvocado · 29/08/2021 08:36

Brewery tour?

addler · 29/08/2021 08:36

40 memories for 40 years- ask friends and family from different areas and times of his life to write a little memory and include a photo and you can put them in a book or box for him?

BaconAvocado · 29/08/2021 08:37

Don't get 40 presents just for the sake of it. It will end up with 30+ bits of unwanted cheap things lying around the house.

Unless it's 40 bottles of beer but that seems excessive

Noshowwithoutpunch · 29/08/2021 08:38

Look on 'Art of Football' and buy a framed print of his favourite team/player?

Rewis · 29/08/2021 08:39

The 40 presents thing works if they are actually useful and not just crap you donate next year. Maybe 40 dierent types of beers etc.

I personally would prefer an experience gift. Me and my bf give each other a day as a present. So on my birthday my bf plans a day for me and then the other way around. On my bfs birthday we had a day out in London. Went to a English breakfast, visited a cricket museum, lunch at a restaurant we had been talking about and then premiere league football. On my birthday we went to a cocktail house, West end play, dinner, etc. One year we went mini golfing and a tourist bus thing.

Also you could do a weekend away somewhere or a brewery or distillery tour somewhere nice.

LindaEllen · 29/08/2021 08:39

Please don't get 40 presents. It's so wasteful, and will take a stupid amount of time to wrap / unwrap.

Maybe ask him if he would like to go on holiday / for a weekend away / for a day out, and gift him an experience rather than 'things' if he doesn't need / want 'things'.

Honestly, the men in my life would think you’d lost the plot if they were given this for a birthday. I mean it’s sweet for a teenage girl, but a grown man?! Hmm

And the 40 pieces of tat is a terrible idea - not only all that crap going to landfill but will end up really expensive too (you’re going to have to put some decent gifts in with the 35 or so crap ones; so how much will it all cost?) Much better to get one decent present like a weekend away.

Geepee71 · 29/08/2021 08:45

My brother has appreciated the following:

Escape room
Afternoon tea with llamas
Tickets to evening out with comedian/chat with type thing.
Driving experience
Zip wire

Experiences rather than things, so making memories.

Quincejam · 29/08/2021 08:45

How about 40 promises of things you can do together in the future?

TheFrogsAreDying · 29/08/2021 08:46

Hahaha, yes, I dont think men make a great target for this sort of thing. Even I (middle aged female) would be Hmm.

Experience gifts are great, a weekend away, hot air ballooning, whale watching (don’t know if that’s a thing in the UK), etc.

40 presents is fine & doesn't have to be wasteful or crap. Favourite chocolate bars, shower gel, travel sized toiletries, aftershave, t shirt, socks, boxers, gift card for costa, gift card for cinema, rolled up £20 note, novelty bottle opener, pack of cards, football mag, takeaway menu (with a suggested date to order it), key ring, for example. Jar of coffee, 40 teabags, bottles of beer. There's loads of stuff you could wrap that will get used.

MouseInCatsClaws · 29/08/2021 08:48

I think the 40 memories idea is lovely 😁

Diverseopinions · 29/08/2021 08:48

Would he like a special item of football memorabilia? A special signed photo of a key win.

Else an experience - as others have suggested.

Hercisback · 29/08/2021 08:49

Don't get 40 presents, most of them will be crap.

Get a couple of decent ones.

DuckDuckGooses · 29/08/2021 08:50

Have you seen the home beer machines? We have a sub from beer wulf and my DH loves it! You can get loads of different barrels to put into it, and it looks quite snazzy Smile

addler · 29/08/2021 08:50

You can't really lump all men together and say they would all hate it, the men who I know have received it or something similar have all been touched by it. Just because you're a man doesn't mean you can't enjoy knowing how much you've meant to people in your life. Some will like it, some won't. Just like some men I know would hate season tickets or a brewery tour. Everyone's different.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 29/08/2021 08:50

A Commentary Chart relating to his favourite team? I got one for DH and they’re really good.

OwlinaTree · 29/08/2021 08:51

My DH had a fancy BBQ for his 40th. Would he like something like that?

Daisydoesnt · 29/08/2021 08:51

Really?! Would you be really pleased to open a jar of coffee, a shower gel, some tea bags and a gift card for costa on your milestone birthday? Just because there’s 40 pieces of tatt, it doesn’t stop it being tatt?

WouldBeGood · 29/08/2021 08:53

I’d buy him some beers, a voucher for a trainer/sports shop, and the night out you’ve planned.

Rather than trying to think of something when he’ll most likely be really happy with that.

WombatStewForTea · 29/08/2021 08:53

Perfect draft machine?
DH loves his but it does encourage them to drink more Blush
