More posting for traffic.

Husband is about to turn 40. Has zero interests but beet and football and gym. I'd season tickets holder for his team and done all tours.

Absolutely stuck what to get him. Would like to get him something good as he's been really supportive this year with some stuff.

Had an idea of 40 presents but thinking of reasonably (cheaper) things to bump that up isn't easy. Clothes/ beer are on list already.

He doesn't read, not bothered by music, doesn't do DIY/gadgets or gaming etc.

Has a good watch already.

I've planned a night out for him and he'd hate a surprise party.

Help?!!!!'

Driving experience day?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 29/08/2021 10:52

My husband has already told me that, for his 50th, he wants to do some tank driving thing in the Midlands. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Horses for courses, I'll be bound.

But the '40 presents' idea is completely pony. 😬
And I don't know any man who would like the little memory box of stuff.
In fact, i'd be embarrassed to give either of those.

But, again, it's horses for courses.

My friend is a die hard Arsenal fan. His wife bought him a birthday video message from Paul Merson - from memory, it was personalised to him - name, age, interests etc. He loved it. I think there's quite a market in video messages from sports people/celebs (though more ex than current players) so you might be able to find one for his team.

Presumably he has a nice tv for watching the football on? Otherwise a UHD TV (with sky subscription) might be an idea.

There are some great ideas in here. Thank you all so much!

I totally take on board what you're all saying about 40 and ending up with a load of tat. I promise you all I'll never spend money on tat.

The experiences are great ideas. I would love it. However every year I make him do something out of his comfort zone. I'm the one who enjoys adventure. Poor DH Likes a simple life, no speeds, heights, water etc. For last 12 years I've made the poor lad do all sorts. To his credit he does them, after considerable moaning tho. This year I'm giving him the year off, it's only fair seeing as it's a special birthday.

But honestly there's some great ideas and I'm inspired! Thank you!

Special forces style training course, e.g. Tough mudder ?

Holothane · 30/08/2021 01:03

I did this fil he loved it, book of newspaper cuttings about his football club, ordered online.

Ponoka7 · 30/08/2021 01:06

The football stadium in Barcelona is worth a visit, as is Barcelona.
Me and my DP were 40 in the same year and went to Egypt. My DD did Morocco, with us all for her 30th. I agree that an experience is better. Is there no concert, theatre performance that he'd want to see? Is there any piece of equipment that he'd want, sport, garden or DIY?

goose1964 · 30/08/2021 01:09

A beer subscription? DH does beer52 and there's always really unusual beers, this month's were all from Chicago, we bought DS1 a Viking drinking born for his up coming birthday.

colincake · 30/08/2021 01:13

You could use Cameo to get one of his favourite classic footie players to record a personalised message?

From this update when you say no experiences and apart from all the good beer tap , upgrade tv etc suggestions made a lovely watch and for my 40th my brother bought me one of those newspapers from the day you were born - it wasn't something I had ever thought about but was really lovely

A personalised number plate

Do something nice rather than material.

Hi @ostagazuzulum wanted to let you know that Silverstone have just released tickets for the British GP today, if you're still considering that as an option. Have been every year for years now, is definitely an unforgettable experience and one that no one I've met has ever regretted. For me would be the best birthday present, ever!
