Awkward DH birthday gifts.

More posting for traffic.

Husband is about to turn 40. Has zero interests but beet and football and gym. I'd season tickets holder for his team and done all tours.

Absolutely stuck what to get him. Would like to get him something good as he's been really supportive this year with some stuff.

Had an idea of 40 presents but thinking of reasonably (cheaper) things to bump that up isn't easy. Clothes/ beer are on list already.

He doesn't read, not bothered by music, doesn't do DIY/gadgets or gaming etc.

Has a good watch already.

I've planned a night out for him and he'd hate a surprise party.

Help?!!!!'

I did 30 presents for my OH years ago I was so excited to do it and thought it was really thoughtful but it was far too much. It got boring and a bit awkward unwrapping after he first 10 or so. A lot were really good gifts but there were some filler crap ones that ended up getting chucked soon after. I'd never do it again.

Sciurus83 · 29/08/2021 09:00

Experience, holiday, weekend away without kids. Definitely not 40 pieces of crap or memories (I.m.o.)

Savannahnanana · 29/08/2021 09:00

@Daisydoesnt yes, it's the thought that's gone into it. My youngest DD did this for my DH 50th & he appreciated the time & thoughtfulness she'd spent finding his favourite things. Some of the gifts made him laugh as they reminded him of funny things in the past. He comments every time he wears the t shirt she included and the family photo in a frame sits on his bedside table. She managed to find things he'd reminisced about but hadn't seen in years. It 's a lovely gift if given in the right spirit and not at all crap.

Are there any "evening's with" a football player he would love to see interviewed/meet coming up?
I know my DH would love something like that but I'm not that interested in football myself so when I hear them advertised have to check with him if it's a player he would like to see.
Did/does he have a close relationship with his Dad/parents?
My DM got a present years ago of an old family photo from her childhood enhanced and blown up and framed. Her dad died young so it's the only good quality picture she has with him in it.
My SIL recently did 30 presents for 30 and got my brother a fair few bottles of craft beer in it. He was delighted and will definitely get used.
If you do the 40 presents for 40 start 39 days in advance and do one a day until his birthday.
If he goes to matches during the winter I'll suggest hand/feet warmers and farmers socks as small present ideas.

Ask him?

DH did for my 40th as I don’t normally want anything.

RestingPandaFace · 29/08/2021 09:17

I got my DH a formula Ford driving day for his 40th and he loved it. Was completely unexpected too.

Dashel · 29/08/2021 09:19

I ordered a photo book album for DH last big birthday which we tend to look through occasionally but it’s there.

I would also suggest a child free weekend away somewhere that he wants to go to. Maybe with an experience thrown in, we went to a city break with a bread making course for the day.

joystir59 · 29/08/2021 09:20

Just take him on holiday

RJnomore1 · 29/08/2021 09:21

Has he done hospitality at his football club?

Palavah · 29/08/2021 09:23

@LivingLaVidaBabyShower

Another vote for an experience. *car driving day at silverstone *whiskey distillaries in scotland /scottish islands * aWeekend in iceland * scuba diving somewhere sunny
This, absolutely. Make memories he can have forever.

You could also get him a cashmere scarf in his football team's colours. www.savile-rogue.com/?v=79cba1185463

@RuthTopp

There might be something here:

Undertheoldlindentree · 29/08/2021 09:34

Make new fun memories for you both? Hotel weekend away but book both of you onto Go Ape or a surfing lesson? Powerboat or sailing trip off the coaster? Or there's a huge zip-wire somewhere in Wales?

Beer machine or subscription sounds like a fun present for him. Or if he travels for work, a really nice piece of luggage?

mum2jakie · 29/08/2021 09:35

I'd also go with the weekend away, just the two of you. That's what I did for my husband's 40th. 40 random presents - especially for someone you're struggling to buy one decent present for - isn't a great idea

Eeeeeps · 29/08/2021 09:39

Clive Tyldesley’s commentary charts are very cool www.commentarycharts.com/

Elisebev · 29/08/2021 09:50

That about a print of his football club/player

We know this guy and he is so talented

Bluntness100 · 29/08/2021 09:53

Loads of good ideas, just don’t do forty gifts only five year olds like that.

Honeymare · 29/08/2021 09:54

@addler

40 memories for 40 years- ask friends and family from different areas and times of his life to write a little memory and include a photo and you can put them in a book or box for him?
This is lovely
IARTNS · 29/08/2021 09:58

Weekend away for one of his teams away day fixtures if they're playing somewhere nice, incorporate a brewery tour into it if there is one nearby to where they're playing?

Redtartanshoes · 29/08/2021 10:01

Nothing says happy birthday like a rolled up £20 and 40 tea bags

Ffs 😂😂😂💯💯💯

Vaselike · 29/08/2021 10:05

Pizza oven seems to be quite popular around here.

I’m aghast and jealous by the number of people who have an option of a child free weekend. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll manage it by the time we’re 50.

VampirinaHauntley · 29/08/2021 10:11

Beerbods have a subscription service where they send out a box of beers and then there’s one to try each week with info about it etc

TigerGolf · 29/08/2021 10:19
A Commentary Chart relating to his favourite team? I got one for DH and they’re really good.

www.commentarycharts.com/
Definitely this! I’ve got one and they’re fab!

CCSA · 29/08/2021 10:34

Depending how he’d take it course of personal training / boot camp / nutrition training etc for the gym - depends how serious he is / open to advice 😂

BeaLola · 29/08/2021 10:45

I'd go experience type or upgrade weekend away

For my DB 40th we bought him a glider flight – absolutely loved it

For my DH 50 I took him to Nes York for 5 days as it was somewhere he had always wanted to ho but not managed - went down really well - still talks about it
