To ask if you think ben wallace has done a bad job?

Needapoodle · 27/08/2021 08:41

Loads of people on social media calling for Ben's (defence secretary) resignation over pen farthing and his operation ark.

I think ben and his department have suddenly been thrust into a highly volatile and constantly changing dangerous situation in which he has to make decisions for the good of the most amount of people possible. I also think that the insistence on evacuating hundreds of animals will undoubtedly have taken resources away from getting people out of Afghanistan and prevented human lives from being saved. I don't think that calling for ben's resignation over some animals not being able to be evacuated is reasonable at all. Or have i missed something?

What would you rather I call them? Surely people aren’t going to worry about how they’re referred to. I mean, they think we shouldn’t worry about how we refer to things as shown by the whole ‘pets’ thing. So names don’t matter when it ‘pets’ but they do now when we’re finding an acceptable name for those that sympathise with Pens cause. Funny that ! No consistency at all when your trying to find fault in everything. Embarrassing.

Dom Dyer and Peter Egan are on Talk Radio at 7.30pm.

God hasn't Dyer worn himself out. I wonder if Mr Farthing has sloped off to Norway to distance himself from Dyer's bile and vitriol. He just doesn't stop. I shall give Talk radio a miss..
VeganVeg · 30/08/2021 19:31

Why would he have worn himself out? He’s not running marathons, just doing some interviews. 🤷🏻‍♀️ If you get tired so easily, I’d suggest you see your GP, there might be an underlying reason.

Saucery · 30/08/2021 19:41

At least she’s not called him Danny Dyer. That confused me a bit in the numerous previous threads frothing about Operation Ark. I was impressed Danny Dyer had stepped into the discussion until I realised some people paid so little attention to what they were ranting about that they thought an Eastenders actor had thrown his opinion into the fray. Obviously, a Downton / Ever Decreasing Circles actor is more appropriate Wink

VeganVeg · 30/08/2021 19:47

Peter has done an enormous amount for animal welfare.

God, did I call him Danny Dyer on previous threads Confused.

Downton! I didn't realise Egan had been on that. He seems a lovely man, just wrong to support this imo.

VeganVeg · 30/08/2021 19:54

Awful news coming in from Kabul Small Animal Sanctuary. My thoughts are with Charlotte and her team and animals. I hope they remain safe.

I know, I’m not knocking him in the least. It’s always a pleasant surprise to see people in the public eye quietly getting on with animal welfare. Anthony Head is another one, Charlie Watts and his wife rescued greyhounds, Ricky Gervais of course (although I don’t think anyone could accuse him of doing it quietly). Some of the nicest people I know are involved in Rescues and they don’t bluster about it, they just….get on with it.
VeganVeg · 30/08/2021 19:58

He does a lot of good charity work quietly. I’ve heard of a few examples from charities Ive had involvement with, there’s a lot not publicised.

Oh no. Sad I can only see what is on their Twitter. I think I will wait.

No, not you, Janiie afaik.

VeganVeg · 30/08/2021 20:46

So Charlotte has chosen to stay in Kabul because she wouldn’t release a disabled puppy when the other dogs were forcibly released. She is a lovely and compassionate woman. I hope so much that she remains safe. For all the bad people in this world, there are some amazingly kind ones.

Janiiejones? Same as JaniieJones?

You have suggested that DD and others need to STFU. You've called them odious.

Your posts are appearing on searches for farthing/nowzad/KSAR and others. There are many professionals (vets, translators and others) doing their best to help people in a dire situation, and you are posting in MN about "knuckle draggers on twitter"/"twitter mobs" and so on. I'm one of those people supporting those stuck in war zones. We're all doing this for free, as far as I know. I'm translating, connecting people with others who might be able to help. Others are doing whatever they can. Vets have supported and checked over the animals from the rescues, and lawyers are doing their best to help.

You denigrating them as "knuckle draggers" and using other derogatory terms to describe the network of people supporting these efforts is nothign short of disgraceful. I'm surprised and disappointed at MN for allowing those posts.

FWIW, MN, those posts are visible in searches using keywords for current events.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/08/2021 20:53

i guess you cant take luggage due to checking for explosives in the luggage

@VeganVeg. I just read one of their updates... the US military did *what?? I know, I know... utter bar stewards. They know what will happen to Charlotte, her staff, and those animals. Utter, utter bar stewards.

SueSaid · 30/08/2021 21:04

Doodle. Yes I've said Dyer needs to stfu. Imo his awful combative attitude is probably having a detrimental affect regarding public support with this situation.

'Knuckle draggers' referred to some of the vile twitter mob, the death threats etc. Not, obviously to vets and lawyers who are helping.

Janiiejones: you didn't make any distinction in your posts. You continue to rail against Dyer. He's done nothing wrong. Wind your neck in, please. Just wind your neck in.
fourminutestosavetheworld · 30/08/2021 21:09

Awful news about KSAR. Quite the juxtaposition between how the US and the UK treated a civilian attempting to leave with rescue animals.

It’s dreadful. Apparently Charlotte is safe.

MrsLargeEmbodied Oh dear, you post was deleted. Think before you type lies about me.

MillieMumsnet · 30/08/2021 21:21

Thanks for the reports on this thread.

Discussions like this often get heated but we'd like to remind you that Mumsnet is here to make parents' lives easier. While we encourage healthy and robust discussion, we hope that everyone can respect each other in their choices and express their views without resorting to personal attacks. We're sure you'd all agree that parents-to-be and new parents need all the support they can get. After all, parenting is hard enough without facing judgement and criticism for those choices.
Peace and love

Doodlebug71 · 30/08/2021 21:34

MN. I kept a copy of the post you deleted. Which part of that goes against your rules? JJ calls people helping "odious", amongst other things.

Go on. Explain why you deleted that post.

@VeganVeg it's apparently okay for other people to post all sorts of libellous stuff about others, including those in the public eye.
