grrr. posted last week re the News of the World ad that was shown at 8pm (chantelle covering her tits with her hands) and my ds' reaction. I complained to ITV (am really really not a prude btw).

ANYHOW, this week have just watched a load of girls in some clubland advert grinding their bums right up at the screen in something akin to soft porn at 7.30!!!

Bloody hell, is this really acceptable for our kids to witness?

have you had any response yet to your complaint to ITV? What about complaining to the advertising watchdog, it might be their department too.

I personally wouldn't be bothered if my dc saw a woman on telly who was covering her breasts with her hand BUT must admit the other one you mentioned sounds horrid.

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 01/12/2007 19:53

Chantelle was covering her breasts. Her nipples were covered.

The girls weren't shaking their asses at your sons... it was an advert for a CD...

I think in light of the past 2 Saturday nights maybe you should stop allowing them to watch tv in the evenings?

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 01/12/2007 19:55

i complained to whsmith about girls with conjoined tits on the front of fhm at my toddlers eyelevel

I am not a prude either but i do have standards

Totally, totally agree with OP.

Back to the whole 'normalisation of porn' debate though.

It's one of the few issues that really REALLY gets me wound up.

I saw the ad you were on about as well. It was appalling. To the extent that my husband was physically squirming in his seat and trying not to look as he obviously felt uncomfortable to be seeing that sort of thing in front of me.

This issue is something which I just wish so much I could do something about as I really believe it has a HUGE impact on all our lives.

I wonder though whether it will actually get worse & worse forever, or whether it will in fact reach a peak and then die away naturally as the backlash against it grows stronger.

I am nearly 30 and if I think back to when I was in my teens, I seem to remember a big thing about The Sun bringing back page 3 after it having been deemed unacceptable for a number of years.

What I'm trying to say is, could society sort of work in a cyclical way on this kind of issue? ie. the mainstream 'porn' gets stronger & stronger until people aren't amused by it any more and then it becomes unacceptable for a while until it starts creeping back in and slowly builds up again....

what really gets to my dd is those adverts about starving children and abused animals, they really upset her, i find it hard to try and explain to a (nearly) 4 year old whats going on, i dont want to lie as i know horrific things go on but i think four is a little young to explain fully and usually opt for a lame "its ok that doctor is going to make the baby better"

DirtyGertiefromnumber30 · 01/12/2007 21:01

i just dont understand how these ads are slipping through the watershed censors. I mean, its primetime, sat night, family viewing TV. It cant be THAT difficult to filter out the more risque ads and show them at a later time. Im not adverse to porn per se (each to their own and all that) but i really really object to my young ds' being bombarded with images that devalue women. hmm, and i dont care if i sound like an old prude. tis how i feel.
