It doesn't matter what she is used to at her Mums - when she is with you, she abides by your rules.

You also don't have to do what was done when you were growing up.

I think the real issue is that your dsd will feel as though she has one up on you now she has seen your dp undermine your authority.
I have this with my dh and his elder children and it makes the little thgings seem more grating after a while...
Sorry rant over,yanbu

Ha! I thought of this today. DS1 had a friend round to watch a movie, as we'd set up the "home cinema" - aka dh's projector/laptop plus a large sheet on the large playroom wall.

When I went up all three of them were sat 'watching the film' whilst simultaneously playing on Nintendo DSs. I was really cross, but decided to let it go just this once.

don't sweat the small stuff, it's not that big a deal. if she's happy and well behaved that's all that really matters. i read and watch tv at the same time, i get bored doing one or the other. she's just learning to become a woman with all that multi tasking

for god's sake biglips YABU!!!! she was reading, not shooting up - It might be irritating you but it's perfectly possible to read and watch a movie at the same time.I know, cos i used to do exactly the same thing when i was a kid, and my parents tried again and again to catch me out by asking me what was happening in either the book or the film, and again and again i proved that i was taking both things in
