Things you’ve bought that have essentially changed your life for the better.

For me, it’s a swim dress. Basically a swimming costume with a little skirt that just covers the bikini line. Flattering, hides my stomach and most importantly it doesn’t matter if my bikini line is needing a little attention. It has completely taken the stress out of taking the kids swimming and now we go all the time Smile

Other game changers for me include the perfect prep (🥰), L’Oréal eight-second wonder water, and Pinch of Nom.

Mirena coil

Really good bean to cup coffee machine. I love it.

Therapy. I had it on the NHS and it did me the world of good, but of course it’s time limited. So I decided to go to a private therapist, on an ongoing basis. It’s been a life saver.

OohThatCat · 24/08/2021 21:05

Ooh also Lakeland heated airer, it’s amazing for winter, I used to hate putting washing on radiators. Now I put on some washing in the evening, put it on the airer before bed, set the timer for 12 hours and in the morning it’s dry! And no extra humidity in my already damp and humid old house!

Indoctro · 24/08/2021 21:06

Robotic mower

LynetteScavo · 24/08/2021 21:09

I have just Googled Food Saver.

  1. Why have I never heard of this before?
  1. Why has my mother never heard of this and bought me one for Christmas?
  1. Are there any discount offers on these because I can't wait until Christmas- I need one now!?
CheerfulBunny · 24/08/2021 21:11

Babylis Big Hair after recommends on here. It's transformed my flat, fine hair and I've become really speedy using it.
PIXI glowy primer - amazing stuff, takes years off me.
I love my cordless Shark hoover. Makes life so much easier, I just whizz round.

saz85 · 24/08/2021 21:14

Period pants for sure.

Recently discovered the Primark versions, life changing. So much more comfortable than anything else I've tried.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/08/2021 21:14

Phillips Lumea
Clothes steamer
Having two vacuums, one upstairs, one down
A uterine ablation - solved my gynae problems overnight, and no periods ever again

lachy · 24/08/2021 21:21

I don't think I have a gamechanger...but I do know I sleep better under my DM's 50 Yr old feather duvet. For some reason it keeps me at just the right temperature all night!

CoffeeWithCheese · 24/08/2021 21:24

Like someone said - sleep headphones

In terms of bringing me joy (and occasionally labelling things) - my Cricut machine. I will spend hours weeding a cut out intricate mandala and find it very therapeutic in the way some turn to adult colouring books.

ImnotawitchImyourwife · 24/08/2021 21:32

A car with sliding rear doors, and an Aeropress.

JaggedNail · 24/08/2021 21:34

Eufy the Robovac, absolutely life changing. I can't think of anything else that comes close, although my £10pa running club membership is by far the best money I spend each year.

Hikingforscenery · 24/08/2021 21:38

@diamondpony80

Soup maker - We never seem to finish the veg we buy so now instead of throwing it out I can throw it all in the soup maker and 20 minutes later we have soup!

Collagen powder - I've been experiencing hair loss for years and my nails were really weak and peeling and breaking really easily earlier this year. No supplements were doing the trick until I got collagen. Just a spoonful in my coffee every day has made a massive difference to my hair loss (not falling out anymore) and my nails are back to normal with no more breaking.

Atomic Habits book by James Clear - some great tips for getting more done in the day and better use of my time.

Which soup maker do you have? I looked into getting one but I couldn’t find one without terrible reviews.
LynetteScavo · 24/08/2021 21:42

When you say sleep headphones @CoffeeWithCheese which ones do you have? I Googled
But several different types came up.

When you say sleep headphones *@CoffeeWithCheese* which ones do you have? I Googled But several different types came up.
The ones that are flat and embedded in the kind of naff workout headband you'd wear in the training montage of an 80s movie. I have bluetooth ones so I don't end up in a mess of wires.
coodawoodashooda · 24/08/2021 21:44

Keeping loads of stamps in my purse.

CarlynH · 24/08/2021 21:45

Heated throw. I bought it when we were renovating our house and had no heating. I wouldn’t be without it now, and it saves putting the heating on if I’m the only one at home.
Heated windscreen. Saves so much time in the winter.
And most controversial of all… separate beds/rooms! I am such a light sleeper and partner is on call. We both get a great sleep now Smile

diamondpony80 · 24/08/2021 21:50

Morphy Richards one - £60. I was surprised to hear they have bad reviews but I actually just had a look on Amazon and you’re right, a lot of the newer reviews are poor. I’d have given it 5 stars as I’ve used mine a lot over the last 2 years and still works perfectly.

coodawoodashooda · 24/08/2021 21:51

@Perching

Marie Kondo Life changing magic of tidying The principle also now extends to my friendships group, activities, what I eat, shopping, saving, it has flicked a switch in my brain.
How does it influence your saving?
AlCalavicci · 24/08/2021 21:52

Ohh How could I of forgotten my head phones ! I have a over the ear bluetooth set made by taotronics and like PP have said a set of sleep ones I have them www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YWKV32F/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=Lr0Im&hsa_cr_id=1420340330102&ref=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_1_img&pd_rd_plhdr=t&pd_rd_w=sGaeG&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&aaxitk=e4edb9e31ea80ac78f8b47d38c97db48&pd_rd_r=774d303c-8734-4ccf-8bc8-67a53ba3ae35

Both are great and have really good long life batteries , the sleep ones are about 3 years old and get used every night without faile for around 8 hrs and only need charging once a week ,
The Teotronics are well over 4 years old get used every day for 5 or 6 hrs on average and only get charged about once every 2 or three weeks ! ( can you tell I like my music Smile )

AlCalavicci · 24/08/2021 21:55

Ostagazuzulum · 24/08/2021 21:56

Philips lumea. Life changing

This thread is going to cost me a fortune 😩 I desperately want a robot hover

MissMatty2hats · 24/08/2021 22:01

My ember mug has made me so happy, I keep telling everyone to get one. My son bought it for my birthday and I was a bit shocked at the price but now I’d replace it in a heartbeat if I broke it. I was forever leaving my coffee to go cold and having to pour it away. Even if I didn’t forget it, it would always be lukewarm when I got to the bottom third. Now it’s the perfect temperature to the last drop.
My other game changer is the Inkey List vitamin c serum, brightened my skin, faded a patch of pigmentation and shrunk the appearance of my huge pores in a couple of weeks.

Oh and the dyson airwrap, would not be without it now.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 24/08/2021 22:04

Great thread! But I don't know what half of these things are or what they do or what they're for lol

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/08/2021 22:07

Secukinumab. I can't remember the last time I woke up and wasn't in pain from before opening my eyes, but 9 months on the things and I feel like a relatively normal human being. I will fight the entire NHS singlehanded to stay on it forever.

Custom orthotics. Turns out that I can walk and stand up for more than 30 seconds, after all.

A cold pack to keep in the freezer. Bye, bye, occipital/cervicogenic migraines and sinus pain (with the help of Sudafed).

Wool duvet. Warm when it's cold, cool when it's warm.

Feather pillow and a moulded neck pillow. Means I am comfortable all night - I suspect a body pillow would be even more amazing, though.

Other than that, running shoes two and a half sizes too big for me - perfect for fitting the orthotics and cushioning the impact on my arsey joints.
