To ask for your “game changers”

Things you’ve bought that have essentially changed your life for the better.

For me, it’s a swim dress. Basically a swimming costume with a little skirt that just covers the bikini line. Flattering, hides my stomach and most importantly it doesn’t matter if my bikini line is needing a little attention. It has completely taken the stress out of taking the kids swimming and now we go all the time Smile

Other game changers for me include the perfect prep (🥰), L’Oréal eight-second wonder water, and Pinch of Nom.

Bedside coffee machine which has both a timer and the ability to brew straight into a travel mug for those mornings when I'm on early shift. Bliss.

Anjo2011 · 25/08/2021 19:01
 • Dylon colour catchers , I don’t wash mixed colours together but they are so handy for those odd bits of washing that don’t really fit into a colour group
 • Neff induction hob. Quick, clean, easy to use
 • Footless tights (mine are from snag) in the winter I buy them and wear with socks when I’m wearing boots. So much easier to get on than regular tights
 • kindle , took a bit of getting used to but love the instant books and 99p reads
speakout · 25/08/2021 19:03

Daily exercise. Usually yoga.

Twerking9to5 · 25/08/2021 19:03

Ooh I was thinking of starting a similar thread today!

Microfibre hair towel to cut down blow drying time.

The Super Retinol range from beauty pie. It’s made an obvious difference to my skin.

CanIPleaseHaveOne · 25/08/2021 19:12

@JellyBabiesSaveLives

2 single duvets on a super king size bed - much better sleep

Separate laundry day for each family member. No more sorting of laundry, and as they’ve got older they start doing their own on their day

OH MY GOD! You are a GENIUS.

Separate laundry day - you have fixed my life!

Thank you.

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/08/2021 19:12

I’m another with a kobo after swearing I’d never read e books but the paper books are beige coloured now not white so I can’t see well at night. The kobo means I read more and for free using overdrive.

The soupmakers marvellous, I had cream of cauliflower for lunch and it was so delicious. £1 of frozen caulk does 6 portions.

IWannaGoToTheSpa · 25/08/2021 19:21

House Of Colour colour consultation. It was so worth it. I now know what colours look good on me and what colours look awful and don’t do me any favours. It’s been a game changer. Makes clothes shopping so much easier. There’s a Style day too, I’d love to do that but it’s pricey. Meant to be even more of a game changer!

DrSeuss · 25/08/2021 19:21

What robovac is best, please? Also, just how careful do you have to be? If my kids left stuffed toys or Lego lying and I didn’t realise, would it eat them?

Fourkidstwodogs · 25/08/2021 19:24

Lick-e-Lix by Webbox for giving cat her daily medication. No more battles, crush the tablet, mix it in and she almost bites my hand off for it!! Absolute game changer!

HereticFanjo · 25/08/2021 19:26

Air fryer and instant pot.

StillWeRise · 25/08/2021 19:28

@ulstermourne

I was thinking about one of these.. but does all the moisture not cause dampness in your house? That thought put me off..
yes, can someone answer this? where does all the water go??
Localocal · 25/08/2021 19:29

My electric moped. The quickest, cheapest, greenest and funnest mode of travel out there. Bought it to stay off public transport during the pandemic, and I love it to bits.

BooneyBeautiful · 25/08/2021 19:33

A Screen Shield Max. I can steam iron everything on the hot setting without having to worry about anything sticking or burning. This means I get the ironing done much quicker which offsets the cost of me using the highest setting!

HonoreDeBallsack · 25/08/2021 19:34

Dyson Airwrap.

Shuttheblinds · 25/08/2021 19:38

Decent non wired bras.

Sweaty Betty leggings, pricey but get them when they are on sale or discounted….amazing!

Plant watering measure thingy, tells me when my plants need watering, has saved me killing lots of house plants.

ShellyShore · 25/08/2021 19:40

I can see, just 4 posts in, that this thread is going to cost me a bloody fortune. Grin

IReallyLikeCrows · 25/08/2021 19:42

I have a swimsuit where the legs are shorts which makes me very happy. I hate most swimsuits and do not want to look like I'm splitting my difference just to go bloody swimming.

AmazinglyGraceless · 25/08/2021 19:43

Identical duplicates of the dc's stockings.

They lay them out on their bed on Xmas Eve. Dh and I have the packed ones in the garage. All we need to do is a simple switch of empty for full and the dc don't realise they're opening a different stocking in the morning.

We did it last year after I read the tip on mm somewhere and honestly it saved so much time, whispering, rushing and stress on Xmas Eve!

JustJustWhy · 25/08/2021 19:46

I think mine have all been said:

In at number one though, the Philips Lumea. An absolute game changer.

Heated throw.

Kettle in bedroom.

Manhattan recordable TV box instead of expensive Sky/Virgin subscriptions.

Taking the time during the first lockdown to do a proper life audit of my bills and what I did and didn't need. From going onto a water meter to ditching TV subscriptions I saved a substantial amount.

Twitchynose · 25/08/2021 19:52

Frozen diced or sliced onions - no more tears or stinky onion fingers.
Fiskars scissor sharpener - love it for my fussy cutting scissors and reviving the kitchen ones.
Lakeland heater airer and a dehumidifier - I leave them both on overnight for dry clothes the next day (and toasty too in the chilly mornings!)
Long handled dustpan and brush - with house rabbits there’s always something that needs sweeping and saves me struggling to get up from the floor on a bad day.

anon666 · 25/08/2021 19:53

Second laser eye surgery, although 15 years later I need glasses again for the same thing (short sight). Worth it even for those 15 years though, it increased my confidence so much.

Babyliss Big Hair was amazing for a while but when my second one stopped rotating I gave up.

Whogivesacrap loo roll. A large box gets delivered every 3 months, full of individually paper-wrapped loo rolls. We never run out - which used to be the bane of my life. Plus eco friendly, ethical purchasing.

Smart light - it can be switched on and off from the phone. No more getting out of bed to switch off the lamp!

Bike - so convenient for local journeys and fun for longer days out. No parking issues.

Statins - I spent years trying to get my inherited high cholesterol down by diet and exercise. Even going vegan didn't work - it still kept going up. 3 months after starting statins and I had normal cholesterol. Such a relief.

And my piece de resistance - a code reader and eraser for my car. It has a glitch in the car computer which kept making it break down. After spending a fortune on replacement parts, computer reboots and various other money-pit repairs, I was still ending up getting towed home when it glitched.

Enter a £20 gadget off ebay. Plugs into the car computer. Reads the code. Erases the code. And we go on our way.

tappitytaptap · 25/08/2021 19:53

@Roussette

Braun facial epilator for my hairy top lip. I used to have it threaded or waxed but it was such a faff to get anywhere. Now I do my own and it lasts hairless for ages!

But the very best things are... Charles Viancin silicone lids (cheap imitations don't work.
Chucked out all my sauccepan and frying pan lids... they take up SO much room and 6 of these on top of one another take up less than half an inch!

Also good for putting on bowls or containers for the fridge. They just suction automatically.
I've got every size Blush

Does the epilator work well, and how much does it hurt 😂
Silvergreen · 25/08/2021 19:55

3m charging cable
Portable air con unit
Stacking hangers for wardrobe
Collapsible shark hoover

peaceanddove · 25/08/2021 19:56
@peaceanddove You have changed my life with the Flat Lay Co make up bag. How did I not know about these? I’ve been lusting after the Beautifect box for months but couldn’t justify the ££££££. Flat Lay is an awesome alternative. Now I just have to choose which design to get!
You are very welcome x
