to say women who live with men don't own power tools

Iooking at the early responses, I maybe asked the wrong question, many women are responding that they own "small" tools or "small" toolboxes, but not the power tools,

so basically the same again

YABU- I am a woman living with a man, and I own power tools, or share equal ownership of the power tools in our household

YANBU - I am a woman living with a man, and he owns the power tools in this house, or mostly owns them

Again, if you don't live with a man, please don't vote, but please comment

Mil has really nice cordless drill. Fil is forever borrowing it

Poppins2016 · 23/08/2021 23:10

I'm the chief DIYer in our household and own most of the decent tools.

HappyDaysToCome · 23/08/2021 23:13

YABU

I bought them. Only I use them.

StopGo · 23/08/2021 23:14

I own and use power tools because my dad taught me to be self sufficient. He also bought my DD her first tool kit and then power tools. She is way better at DIY than I am but apparently I'm a decent assistant

Changemaname1 · 23/08/2021 23:17

I thought this was code and actually about vibrators

This is a far more strange / boring question tbh

LBOCS2 · 23/08/2021 23:20

All mine. DH has no interest or knowledge in any tools, power or otherwise.

spotcheck · 23/08/2021 23:21

Tools were just household appliances in common.

When ex moved out, he took some, not all.

I have loads of tools ( power and otherwise), and use them.
I used them when I was married too

hemhem · 23/08/2021 23:21

We're a mixture. DH has bought a nice new drill recently and its something we both use. He also bought me a new electric screwdriver for Xmas. I owned the sander, and a variety of handtools before we met. We bought all the garden tools together but I am the one who uses them most. We're both reasonably good at joinery type DIY, but I'm far better at painting, he's better at hanging things on walls (he's tall, I'm short!) and I do all the flatpack type stuff as do doesn't have the patience.

Voicefancier · 23/08/2021 23:22

I own 2 drills (one corded, one cordless) a drill/driver, 2 cordless screw drivers, an electric saw, 2 jigsaws (one angled), a circular saw, and a tile cutter - which I've not used yet but was a bargain. I want a nail gun. My other half had well look-after, much loved crap items when we got together. Mine were better. I've updated many times since then.

plominoagain · 23/08/2021 23:24

@AlwaysLatte

We have his and hers chainsaws!
So do we !

Very much a Stihl household here ..

woodpecker2 · 23/08/2021 23:31

Yabu, the best power tools are mine DH doesn’t looks after anything properly or bother buying good quality stuff so I do. He is allowed to borrow them but has to put them back as he found them.

wheresmymojo · 23/08/2021 23:34

I can't vote on the app but I am a woman living with a man and I own power tools.

A couple of drills and a couple of different types of powered saws.

DH wouldn't even know what we owned beyond one drill.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/08/2021 23:34

We own the power tools equally but I’ve mostly operated them. I’m much more practically minded and skilled in that respect.

Starseeking · 23/08/2021 23:37

My EXDP could barely turn a screw. I spent 3 years begging him to do DIY house jobs before I gave up and bought myself a drill, electric screwdriver, toolbox and painting paraphernalia, and got to work.

He's history now, but the tools are still mine, I made sure to take them with me. The tools are the only item I'd have fought him for in the separation of assets (excluding the DC lol!):

Cheeringmeup · 23/08/2021 23:41

Ours are jointly owned I suppose, as they were mostly bought from our joint account, but I'm the only one who uses them (DH is diy defective).
I love my wee cordless screwdriver, it just fits in my hand so wellSmile

lifehappened · 24/08/2021 06:23

We have them in the house but I've never used

movinghelprequired · 24/08/2021 06:28

YABVU!! I chose, own and use power tools. I live with my DH.

Randommother · 24/08/2021 06:29

What a strange question. Ours are joint property and we both use them, like the washing machine is joint property and we both use that!

Wouldlovetobeinthesun · 24/08/2021 06:33

I own all the power tools (bought/given) prior to getting together, save for the chainsaw. This was bought jointly.

KihoBebiluPute · 24/08/2021 06:39

All the power tools are mine. DH doesn't toich them unless he has to. I do quite extensive DIY. He doesn't.

I have;
Hammer drill
Various cordless drills & electric drivers
Angle grinder
Sander
Jig saw

OP you are using the word 'men" to mean "males who conform to a sexist stereotype of what males are like" whereas actually the spectrum of what men are like is a lot broader than that.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 24/08/2021 07:16

I am married to a man. The power tools are mine. I got them when I lived alone and put up my own shelves. DH lived in rented flat shares before we got married so he never did, plus he is useless at DIY.

Notjustanymum · 24/08/2021 08:33

We buy tools with family money, so they are equally owned by both of us. He tends to use them more than me, but then he uses the sewing machine less than me!

Karwomannghia · 24/08/2021 08:39

I’ve never used power tools no.

Warmduscher · 24/08/2021 08:39

@Falleybollolo

'teacher' and 'Isle' 🙈 Biscuit
And starting sentences with lower case letters.
overwork · 24/08/2021 08:44

I live with with a man. I don't have any power tools. But then, nether does he. We are completely useless and just bring in a handyman (or my Dad Blush) when we need something doing
