To never have biscuits in the house?

Me and my OH don't like biscuits so never buy them. So no-one is offered a biscuit when they come round.

*We don't generally either, and I don't tend to have impromptu visitors so it's not an issue.

If I invite someone round I cater accordingly.*

Same here. I'll buy a packet of biscuits or bake if I know someone is coming.

If I kept biscuits in the house all the time, I'd just eat them constantly. I don't have them purely because we all like them too much. It's fascinating to me that anyone can have such things around and just eat them occasionally without getting overweight. I wish our family was like that.

3.17am, cats demanded breakfast half an hour ago. I like to join them in a little snack at that time. Mug of tea and some Rich Tea Biscuits have just hit the spot.

I recently had some work done in my garden. I was delighted afterwards to find the two nice men had not touched the biscuits I had bought them. An orgy of biscuit eating followed.

@Daphnise

For callers to your residence, the offer of a glass of tap water is quite sufficient.

In addition to biscuits, why not go a little further, keep no sugar, flour, salt, butter, bread, cheese, alcohol, milk, meat, rice, pasta or fish.

Such a fun life!

No-one's saying that they don't want to offer a biscuit to guests, more that, realistically, unless said biscuits are bought specifically for planned guests, 'biscuits in the house' and 'presence of guests' are unlikely to coincide.

People don't generally mindlessy snack on pasta, flour, meat, salt or fish, so those things are safe to keep in the house storecupboard.

@Goldbar

We have individual packs of biscuits which we offer guests (2 in a pack). We try not to eat biscuits ourselves and don't like having open packs around so that solves the problem for us. Most of my friends bring their DC and they often appreciate a biscuit if they're running around after them in the garden or have small babies which they're breastfeeding. I wouldn't like to think of anyone being hungry in my house. I'd prefer to offer something and have it refused.
Can I ask where you buy them , this is just the kind of thing I am after
countrygirl99 · 23/08/2021 09:58

I only buy biscuits when we have tradesmen in. Show them where the kettle, biscuits and loo are and leave them to it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/08/2021 11:21

Although I buy biscuits so rarely, this thread has made me want to go and buy a packet of Garibaldis and scoff the lot.

Singleorigincoffee · 23/08/2021 11:41

It was crackers in my family home. And typical south east Asian household, it could be sweet or savoury..crackers with condensed milk spread lol or cheese.

Or plain crackers and milo ..it's childhood taste for me lol

daisyjgrey · 23/08/2021 11:41

Sorry, but I don't believe that two people who have grown up independently from each other can not like ANY biscuit. That seems preposterous.

@AlCalavicci. We have a mix of individual biscuits atm (left over from hosting some parties earlier this year when we were worried about Covid spread). Mini jammy dodgers and jaffa cake packs were popular (I got those from the supermarket). We also had a bulk pack of Border biscuits which I bought online - I found them a bit unexciting so they've kept a lot longer!

AlCalavicci · 23/08/2021 14:20

@Goldbar ,
Ooh I have never seen them in a supermarket. I will have a look for Boarder biscuit , thank you

PurpleVerbena · 23/08/2021 14:22

I'm not keen on biscuits either - hardly ever have them in the house - maybe some shortbread at Christmas but that's it. No chocolate either except at Christmas - I can take it or leave it.

AuntieMarys · 23/08/2021 14:22

Biscuits and cake free zone here. Not even at Xmas.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 23/08/2021 15:17

Aw @AuntieMarys- a Cromwell Christmas! Retro.

FastFood · 23/08/2021 16:18

Never have biscuit either. When I buy some, I eat them all until there are no more biscuits and I'm back to my previous biscuit-less state.

emilylily · 23/08/2021 16:22

We don't either but for a very different reason- namely if I start eating one then the packet miraculously disappears within half an hour.

OswaldOwl · 23/08/2021 16:24

yabu.
Biscuits are my favourite food group.
I wouldn't visit you.

YANBU, I’m low carbing and don’t but anything like that.

OswaldOwl · 23/08/2021 16:25

Incidentally, I don’t like tea of coffee. Unexpected visitors to my house ONLY get biscuits!
And tapwater.
