Gym or cleaner?

Dd starts nursery in September, only part time, but will be the first time I’ve been alone without her in 3 years.
Need to lose 2-3 stone, can’t afford to keep my cleaner and pay for a gym.
I have an exercise bike and weights in the spare room, plus have a dog to take for walks (walking isn’t enough for me to lose weight though) in the last I had to work out a few times a week to be a size 10. If I paid for a gym and got all the gear etc, I’d be more likely to force myself to go, whereas at home after dropping Dd off, I might just slump on the sofa.
I adore having my cleaner, I forsake other things to afford her.
Which one would you pay for?

Clean yourself as exercise and use the money for treatsHalo

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 21/08/2021 12:05

Gym

And clean your house vigorously, put your back into it. I log it as a workout on my fitbit. Hoovering, mopping, cleaning windows can get your heart rate up.

Fangdango · 21/08/2021 12:07

Cleaner because you know that will work. The house will get cleaned. The weight is less certain.
You might need to rest a bit once you're not doing childcare 24/7. And then you might start to lose weight more easily when you're getting better quality rest. So stick with the cleaner for now. Up your home gym routine when you're ready.

Cleaner

DrSbaitso · 21/08/2021 12:09

Gym, definitely.

Dozer · 21/08/2021 12:10

Cleaner.

Weight loss is primarily down to what you eat and there are lots of other, cheap exercise options.

Words · 21/08/2021 12:11

Cleaner. BUT.

Cleaner.
Exercise doesn’t have much impact on weight, diet does.

AlmostSummer21 · 21/08/2021 12:14

Cleaner.

minipie · 21/08/2021 12:15

Cleaner.

Put exercise in your diary 3/4 times a week and treat it like an appointment, convince yourself you are booked in and cannot do anything else but exercise for that 30/45/60 minutes. You have the bike and weights and Youtube has loads of free videos, why spend money on the gym. C25k is also a good option as it sort of forces you to stick to a schedule.

Coogee · 21/08/2021 12:16

Cleaner and eat less.

countrytown · 21/08/2021 12:18

cleaner

Hidehi4 · 21/08/2021 12:19

Stop your cleaner, don’t go to the gym and clean yourself. Save the money for a new wardrobe when you lose the weight

Thisisjammmmhot · 21/08/2021 12:31

Those saying it’s mainly diet, my diet is generally v healthy and always has been. The only way I was ever the size I wanted to be was through exercise 3-4 times per week. Not long after I stopped that, weight piled on, I know that I need it, used to feel good afterwards, but also hate the thought of it 🙈
Ideally I’d love to keep me cleaner and just do sod all for a bit once I’m finally without Dd 🤣
Would I lose it the same just doing my old bike upstairs and weights as I would in a gym?
Also have a normal bike and we do bike rides at the weekend with Dd, so could include that and longer dog walks without Dd I can walk more quickly and for longer.

I'd find a way of affording both eating less crap as one would vastly improve my mental health through having a clean home and not being so tired from trying to keep on top of it, so I could spend more time enjoying the LO - and the other would vastly improve my physical and mental health.

Dozer · 21/08/2021 12:34

So you must’ve been eating way more calories than you burned. You can count calories consumed and estimate the no of calories burned in exercise. Eg with a fitbit or similar.

Dozer · 21/08/2021 12:35

Exercise is great for MH but it’s unnecessary to attend a gym to exercise.

LtJudyHopps · 21/08/2021 12:35

I’d try it with the bike and other bits at home for a couple of months. There are so many workouts online now to do at home. If you find it’s not working then swap and go to the gym?
I say this as someone who would like to lose at least a stone myself! Need to do more at home workouts!

MotionActivatedDog · 21/08/2021 12:40

If I paid for a gym and got all the gear etc, I’d be more likely to force myself to go,

Do you use the exercise bike and weights in the spare room?

user1497787065 · 21/08/2021 13:04

Neither. I like cleaning and am a reluctant gym goer. Only a personal trainer would really work for me

Coogee · 21/08/2021 13:09

To be blunt, it doesn’t matter how healthy your diet is if you eat too much.
