Aibu to think ring door bells on a mid terrace are ok?

How do you protect a neighbour's privacy?

Unfortunately my house was broken into on Saturday. CCTV goes up this week on the advice of the police and insurance company.

Ignore your neighbours, you’ve done what you can and if they’re dodgy then all the more reason to have it but I’d make sure it’s screwed into the wall so they can’t nick it!
Ours has been great, we are in a detached house so don’t need to worry about our neighbours (one side has one too) and we have the Ring camera above our garage which just covers our car (lots of theft from vehicle and keyless thefts) and would like one for back garden as we back onto woods but need to wait for Black Friday deals!
So handy as I never miss the door now even when I’m in the garden as the alert comes up on my watch.

I like them personally. I have anxiety and like knowing who is at the door so I can avoid answering it to anyone I’m not expecting. I was caught out a couple of times by door to door salesmen wearing red shirts because I thought it was the postie.

There are only two genuine reasons to object to a neighbour having CCTV that may capture you outside. (Obviously it's different if their camera looks into your home.)

  1. You're up to no good and fear their footage might be used as evidence.

  2. You don't trust them to be using it responsibly, such as only using it for recording crime and not uploading the clip of you falling on your arse when it was icy to YouTube.

The second reason can usually be resolved by explaining to them why you have the camera, what it is used for, who has access, how recordings are stored and how long they are kept for.

The first reason would just make me think about getting a second camera erected too!

Sounds like the neighbours who don't like it have problems that may be contributing to that, if they have the police called to their house often. Maybe they're worried someone will use it to document their "issues", somehow.

It seems okay to me. I wouldn't love a camera pointed into my garden, but at the front door? Seems harmless, unless it's being abused in some way.
