To think my sister is crackers?

Lighthearted! I love my sister really 😊

She's recently just had a new kitchen installed and painted a different colour. She's bought new appliances to match and it all looks lovely. I went over yesterday for a catch up and it's the first time that I've visited since it's been finished.

I offered to make the tea but she said she would and then proceeded to go into the next room where her old kettle along with the old toaster and microwave were on a table. She made the tea with that. Confused, I asked her why she wasn't using the new kettle, was it broken etc. She said no but that she wasn't going to use any of the new stuff as it's all for show!
She doesn't use the tea towels that are on the oven handle either as their for show to. We have to use the ones under the sink to dry our hands 😆. I remember when I changed all of my appliances in my kitchen last year and it wasn't cheap to do so I couldn't imagine not using any of them, but I suppose if she wants to keep them looking new for a while it makes sense, but the tea towels!! Really?? 🤣

Anyone else find this a bit crackers? 😆

She’s bonkers Grin

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 21/08/2021 09:01

YANBU. Does she have a room she can make a second kitchen in so when she had guests she can produce ready cooked foods in from her oven in her show kitchen Blue Peter style? Grin Grin

Velcropaws · 21/08/2021 09:05

Of course she is barking but it's rather endearing in a way! Grin

Or is she very active on Instagram or something?

It's a modern version of keeping the plastic on the sofa.

My DH does this in a minor way: whenever he buys new clothes for himself (once in a blue moon) he keeps them for ages new in the drawer (maybe for six months or a year) until he wears them for the first time.

People are strange Grin

ThinWomansBrain · 21/08/2021 09:10

you're allowed to use the sink then?
she is bonkers

dworky · 21/08/2021 09:31

This is exactly like my sister. As a child she often had toys which were never taken out of their boxes.

MagnoliaBeige · 21/08/2021 09:33

Oh love it, that’s too funny! She’ll probably relax a bit once the novelty wears off. Reminds me of an elderly relative who kept her front room for “special occasionst” except nothing was ever special enough to use it, I don’t think I ever set foot in it, ha ha.

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2021 09:35

Oh that's a whole other level isn't it Shock my Sister has show towels In her kitchen and show mugs on a rack. I don't have show anything Sad

SimonJT · 21/08/2021 09:36

She is bonkers, I say this as someone who does similar. When I had my new bathroom fitted I didn’t use it for about eight weeks (have an en-suite) as I didn’t want to get watermarks on the shower screen.

I also have some trainers that are either just for home, or very very short trips out so I don’t crease the front.

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2021 09:37

Dh had a good sitting room I think I was in it once.

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2021 09:39

But it was after we had drunk our tea*

Blinkingheckythump · 21/08/2021 09:39

Yeah she's full on nuts

Maximum71 · 21/08/2021 09:40

@dworky
My oldest dd did the same!! Her toys are now in the hands of her own dd.. all out of the box and now all scruffy - I wonder if it is actually painful to see for her Grin

girlmom21 · 21/08/2021 09:40

Haha I love it!

WetBench · 21/08/2021 09:40

Just like people having a show living room just to appear wanky to visitors

MintyCedric · 21/08/2021 09:40

Is she still at the stage where people are coming round who haven't seen/admired the new kitchen yet?

It's batshit, yes, but if so it's probably much less aggro than trying to keep it immaculate for every viewing Grin!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/08/2021 09:41

Totally bonkers.

Life is for living, not for a museum piece.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/08/2021 09:42

Saying that, I have nice teatowels for wet things, and d tea towels for messy things, lime wiping up tea spills.

ladygracie · 21/08/2021 09:43

Does she cook in it? Or is she only having things that can be toasted or microwaved?!

Mrsjayy · 21/08/2021 09:45

Oh I remember my mum's friend got a new bathroom sunken bath with (yes) carpeted steps into it , they had a party where they showed off the new bathroom Hmm

luckylavender · 21/08/2021 09:46

@MagnoliaBeige - having a special room was far from unusual when I was growing up

Saz12 · 21/08/2021 09:47

Bonkers.

I have a decorayive oven glove. But only DH and I know it’s just for show, and not to be used (coz guests don’t need to use it). So that’s completely sane and normal. And it’s a very nice oven glove that goes perfectly with the kitchen....

frazzledasarock · 21/08/2021 09:49

After showers when your shower is still wet, spray Tesco daily shower spray all over the shower including the inside of the shower doors. Leave your shower sparkling.

Ex SIL was like this, when she came to visit from her country she was shuffling about I asked if she was OK. Turned out she was wearing shoes her dad had bought her from Dubai (he used to work overseas when they were kids), which she’d not worn and saved, not like younger sister in law who’d worn hers out and thrown them away many years previously 🙄, the shoes had been bought when she was fifteen! I had to go out and buy her new shoes.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 21/08/2021 09:49

I have a relative who cooks in her shed on two gas rings and her old oven, not in her kitchen with the pristine induction hob and range cooker.
5 years since she's done up the kitchen.

Saz12 · 21/08/2021 09:51

MrsJayy - DH and I bought a doer-upper house and for every room we finished we got dressed up (as in, black tie) and drank champagne in (ok, sparkling white anyway).

SD1978 · 21/08/2021 09:51

Yes it's bonkers, but she must have a butlers pantry as well, where she can still do all that stuff. I'd imagine the novelty will wear off and convenience will take over eventually from always having to gaff around in the pantry
