To think my sister is crackers?

Lighthearted! I love my sister really 😊

She's recently just had a new kitchen installed and painted a different colour. She's bought new appliances to match and it all looks lovely. I went over yesterday for a catch up and it's the first time that I've visited since it's been finished.

I offered to make the tea but she said she would and then proceeded to go into the next room where her old kettle along with the old toaster and microwave were on a table. She made the tea with that. Confused, I asked her why she wasn't using the new kettle, was it broken etc. She said no but that she wasn't going to use any of the new stuff as it's all for show!
She doesn't use the tea towels that are on the oven handle either as their for show to. We have to use the ones under the sink to dry our hands 😆. I remember when I changed all of my appliances in my kitchen last year and it wasn't cheap to do so I couldn't imagine not using any of them, but I suppose if she wants to keep them looking new for a while it makes sense, but the tea towels!! Really?? 🤣

Anyone else find this a bit crackers? 😆

Bonkers, but then I have a couple of family members like this - lots of lovely things on display that never get used.

My DM doesn't use her dishwasher so that it doesn't get dirty

@Mrsjayy

Oh how fancy ottoman box Smile

My Dd has boxes for fleece blankets in her living room and they all match her sofa .she was a messy bugger when she lived here!

I love this. From messy bugger to matching ottomans 😃

No fleece left behind in that house.

I’ll confess I’ll be keeping my new Rick stein coves of Cornwall mugs for us & I've saved the old home bargains mugs for guests.

If they can buy me presents I’m allergic to I can serve drinks in cheap mugs to them.

Completely bonkers!

A very good friend of mine was a bit the same pre-kids. The downstairs was a show home. She even had "display mugs".
One time she had some men in to replace some windows, and told them to help themselves to tea/coffee while she went out. When she returned, she was absolutely mortified to discover they'd used the "display mugs"! And not the "regular" mugs from the cupboard!

8 years and 2 kids and a dog later, her house is trashed. They "did up" the living room about 18 months ago, which consisted of ripping up the perfectly good and nice carpet, and replacing it with fake wood laminate (because "it'll be better with kids"). The whole room echoes now, and it's so un-cozy.

@JohnLapsleyParlabane

I have a relative who cooks in her shed on two gas rings and her old oven, not in her kitchen with the pristine induction hob and range cooker. 5 years since she's done up the kitchen.
DH had a relative who cooked everything outside on the barbecue rather than the pristine state of the art kitchen, whatever the weather.

Yes I know some women like this, it's an odd state of mind, that some people have, a state of mind that you can never understand.

I had a neighbour years ago, she had been hankering after some new silver earrings, just nice, but basic everyday ones. She bought them, but never wore them, so on asking why, she just said, well they are new, and I don't want to spoil them, I just wear some old ones all the time.

It's quite sweet and reminds me of my older relatives.

My parents have a sofa that no one is allowed to sit on Grin they have a sofa that they themselves sit on (whilst looking at the other sofa admiring it, I presume) and when we go round there, my mum brings out camping chairs for us to sit on. It’s just for show apparently. I don’t get it at all.
