Is anyone else considering switching to a life of militant environmentalism

Me and DH are absolutely petrified and can no longer in any good conscience collide in the selfish shitshow that is modern life destroying the plannet. We are thinking of in the next few years
-selling most/all of our possessions
-selling the house
-moving to a small shack in the woods
-we would forrage for food and drink from a well
-we would use no modern technology and essentially shun the outside world.
While this might seem radical we are willing to bravely make this sacrifice to save our glorious planet. Is anyone else considering this?

@PalmarisLongus

It can be done OP. But you'd need a few million in the bank to begin with.

Buying the woodland is not cheap.
Building an environmentally friendly house that has zero impact is not cheap and almost impossible.
Laying roads to the cabin in the woods is not cheap. So on and so on.

By the time you've got the land, cut the trees to build with, cut the trees to make a road, flattened land for farming, sorted irrigation, got a path to a water source, disturbed the natural habitat and built on the land, you'll have to live another 50 years without breathing, peeing, eating or farting just to offset the environmental damage you've both caused to the woodland to set up the environmentally friendly cabin.
Good luck though.

I watched this and found it interesting! Good luck whatever you decide.

So I think OP is either a Goady Fucker OR they've already left to live in (someone else's) woods.

I'm not panicking but if nothing of substance comes out of COP27 it will be seriously depressing and things will continue to deteriorate.

HollyGrail · 21/08/2021 20:04

The lady in the video was featured in one of Ben Fogle's tv series New Lives in the Wild.

Ruddyknackered · 21/08/2021 20:26

@PickAChew

How would selling your house and the things you already have help the environment?

What consequences would you forsee from all 63 million brits moving into the woods and foraging?

It would basically be Centerparcs. We'd have to forage at the Parc Market and the deer would get really peeved at never being left alone. Some people would still find rationed bookings at the swimming pool tone their greatest concern...
joystir59 · 21/08/2021 20:44

Nope

RavingAnnie · 21/08/2021 21:04

Have you seen "into the wild". Best of luck to you.

PlanDeRaccordement · 21/08/2021 21:19

Bon chance

Hypnoshiding · 21/08/2021 21:33

If we are all moving to the woods. We might as well stay were we are. Let nature take over and then eventually, we will all be 'in the woods'

I mean since we will have all stopped working, we won't be able to maintain the houses, or have central heating etc but it's fine. Cause foraging.

Its the only thing that makes sense.

Dashel · 21/08/2021 21:41

@HollyGrail yep, we have heating, it could be a normal house from the outside if you exclude the wind turbine and the solar panels. We have a plant room with loads of expensive stuff in it. We aren’t minimalist off grid people, I have GHDs, and all the mod cons, we wanted rural and the house just happened to be off grid. It’s great most of the summer as we have so much solar energy we use it to heat our water. We have oil central heating/ water which isn’t great and we are hopping to change and we have a log burner which is currently on.

Bootikin · 21/08/2021 22:48

What a surprise, the OP (or is it a journalist) has now vanished after the first message …. pathetic.

Still, they won’t be able to forage the internet in the future, hence their silence, I suppose.

Thanks for the laugh @Saveourearthuk
