To have ordered the same Chinese takeaway dishes for a decade?

ComputerIsLoading · 20/08/2021 18:41

We have a Chinese on average 5 times a year and every single times, for around a decade I have promised myself I will order something different..

Inevitably we end up ordering chicken or king prawn chow mien, chicken curry and rice sweet and sour chicken and mini spring rolls. On the odd occasions we have gone wild and had special fried rice and pancake rolls..

Tonight is the night to walk on the wild side.. please let me know your recommendations! I’ve looked at crispy beef but do I need to order rice with that? At 30 I’m still a Chinese takeaway novice!

I always order the same because I know it and like it :D Crispy chilli beef, egg fried rice and vegetable spring rolls. VERY rarely will I swap the beef for sweet & sour chicken, I prefer the beef. And now I'm wishing mine did deliveries because I could really have some!

I did love the Chinese buffets when I lived in the US and had the opportunity to try lots of different dishes, sesame orange chicken, beef & broccoli noodles...yum yum yum. But now I just stick with what I know I love :)

Oh my god my mouth is watering!

Salt and chilli squid or king prawns. Wow.
Yes to the crispy beef
Satay sauce!!
Get some prawn toast and dip in the sauce.
Salt and chilli chips.

You won't look back.

ISpyCobraKai · 20/08/2021 20:19

I used to have it every Saturday night as Dd worked there.
The muppet got the sack for taking a sickie and getting caught!

@piefacedClique

Chicken green pepper and black bean sauce 🤤🤤🤤
Me too. Or beef with spring onion and ginger.
twilightcafe · 20/08/2021 20:21

Salt and pepper squid
Pad Thai

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/08/2021 20:22

We have the opposite problem, we try all different things and forget to make a note of whether we like them or not, and the next time we come to order have no idea what we've tried. Grin

Feedingthebirds1 · 20/08/2021 20:28

@Ostryga

I always order the same: beef with broccoli, prawns with Chinese mushroom and bamboo, prawn balls and chop suey.

We’ve recently had an ‘authentic’ Chinese place open and MY WORD. The food is worlds apart, I’m in takeout heaven!

The last order was 3 types of dumplings, crispy fried intestines (sounds awful, tasted amazing) proper mapo tofu, kings prawns in a salted egg yolk sauce, noodles in a savoury broth with black fungus mushrooms, tripes and beef tendon.

That's a bushtucker trial not a Chinese!

Beef in black bean sauce, Szechuan chicken, crispy shredded chilli beef and rice as you fancy... my absolute favourite 😋😋😋

RookieRoo · 20/08/2021 20:41

Kung Po is like sweet and sour but with a little spice. It's lovely.

Black bean is also amazing.

Szechuan is another one to try.

Also Ho Fun noodles if they have them. Or Singapore noodles are both amazing. Worth a try.

And definitely salt and chilli chicken or chips. They are try but go well with a curry sauce, too.

I'm drooling at the thought of a Chinese now, definitely have to get one tomorrow!

We usually rotate the same items

Starters
Spare ribs in ok sauce/ salt and chill/ bbq
Duck spring rolls
Chicken wings in salt and chilli
Prawn toast

Mains
Duck in plum sauce
Special curry
Beef in oyster sauce
Fish in black bean
Beef in ok
Special chow mein

IwishIwasinAlykanas · 20/08/2021 20:52

This will do for 3 portions ( 2 during the evening, 1 saved for the morning) Prawn toast, seaweed, crispy chilli chicken, chicken satay, egg fried rice & prawn balls.

Silversun83 · 20/08/2021 20:54

I'm sure you've probably ordered by now but I like:

Crispy duck with pancakes
Prawn toast
Kung Po beef
Vegetables chop suey
Plain rice

Also a shout out for Singapore noodles.

Also usually don't vary and also have a weird thing about ordering chicken from takeaway places (or restaurants) - Had food poisoning from chicken at a well-known Mexican chain 8 years ago and have been paranoid careful ever since.

drpaddington · 20/08/2021 20:54

I love egg fried rice with curry sauce, simple but so good! I have that almost every time.

Also like beef curry with egg friend rice, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chow mien, chilli and salt chips.

VampirinaHauntley · 20/08/2021 21:45

Singapore rice noodles area must!

Kung po chicken

Crispy chilli beef

RookieRoo · 20/08/2021 22:10

I also agree to duck pancakes. They're a must. But I wasn't sure if that's what you meant by pancake rolls. (Been to lots of Chinese and there are different references. For example salt and chilli is salt and pepper in most places. And some places include prawn in the "special" dishes, some just have chicken, pork and beef etc)

Prettybubblesintheair · 20/08/2021 23:06

Crispy shredded chilli beef, fuck chow mien, chips and curry sauce. If we’re celebrating or particularly flush duck pancakes and rice too Smile

CurryLover55 · 20/08/2021 23:11

Fuck chow mein?! Lol 🤣

CurryLover55 · 20/08/2021 23:12

Also liked the references to egg friend rice!

ThinWomansBrain · 20/08/2021 23:12

If you were doing it every week maybe aibu, but if only every two/three months less so.
I don't get takeaways, but have certain restaurants where I always get the same thing, because I know it's amazing, or something I look forward to at that restaurant - but they could have even better things on the menu and I'll never know.

AngeloMysterioso · 20/08/2021 23:28

King prawn or roast duck in Portuguese sauce. It’s actually a Macanese dish (Macau was colonised by Portugal). It’s coconutty, creamy and has a little bit of a chilli kick but not too much.

Cheeseplantboots · 21/08/2021 04:45

We’ve been ordering pretty much the same 5 dishes for 27 years. Curry with egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken balls, one of the special chefs dishes and Singapore noodles.
