To have ordered the same Chinese takeaway dishes for a decade?

ComputerIsLoading · 20/08/2021 18:41

We have a Chinese on average 5 times a year and every single times, for around a decade I have promised myself I will order something different..

Inevitably we end up ordering chicken or king prawn chow mien, chicken curry and rice sweet and sour chicken and mini spring rolls. On the odd occasions we have gone wild and had special fried rice and pancake rolls..

Tonight is the night to walk on the wild side.. please let me know your recommendations! I’ve looked at crispy beef but do I need to order rice with that? At 30 I’m still a Chinese takeaway novice!

Try something else alongside! I have a weird habit where I try something new from the supermarket every time I go. World food aisles are the best for it, I'll get some snacks or seasoning or random stuff I've never eaten before

Slub · 20/08/2021 19:36

Yanbu I've been ordering king prawn & cashew nuts for at least as long 🤷‍♂️

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 20/08/2021 19:37

It’s all about the prawn toast. The thought of shrimps and prawns leave me feeling icky so I’ve never actually eaten them, but prawn toast is the food of the gods. Szechuan chicken is fantastic too

Houseofvelour · 20/08/2021 19:38

Szechuan pork 😍

thenightsky · 20/08/2021 19:39

Chicken fried rice.

If I'm feeling racy, then chicken with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts and friend rice on the side.

MintMatchmaker · 20/08/2021 19:40

Chicken and cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce.

999caffeineplease · 20/08/2021 19:41

Salt and chilli king prawns/squid, sweet and sour sauce, fried rice or thick (udon) noodles, prawn toast

Peanutsandchilli · 20/08/2021 19:43

Crispy chilli beef is my daughter's favourite, or chicken in ok sauce. I like ginger and spring onion dishes, or cashew nut dishes, or anything with pineapple.

The Chinese we used to go to years ago did a sweet and sour style vermicelli, which was delicious.

LadyCatStark · 20/08/2021 19:43

I do order the same thing but that thing is crispy beef so I can certainly recommend it to you! Yes, with egg fried rice.

bobbilyknob · 20/08/2021 19:44

Yuk sung, all day long.

ReachedTheEndofCake · 20/08/2021 19:50

This just made me order Chinese Grin

GinLimeandLemonade · 20/08/2021 19:53

I love chicken with ginger and pineapple 👍

@InFiveMins - the chicken is usually chopped up in the sauce, from the takeaway we go to anyway. Like in this picture 😊

I always have honey chilli chicken and/or beef in black bean sauce.

Paint69 · 20/08/2021 19:55

We have any of these:

Szechuan pork
Salt and pepper chicken
Crispy chilli beef
Duck pancakes
Lemon chicken
Chow mein
Pancake roll
Egg fried rice
Prawn crackers
Sweet and sour chicken balls

Nonicknamesforcatapillars · 20/08/2021 19:59

Kung Po chicken, beef in black bean sauce, capital spare ribs, sea weed, duck with ginger and spring onions. It’s all good really.

MrsPnut · 20/08/2021 20:02

@possumgoddess

My birthday meal of choice is crispy duck and pancakes. Char sui pork and bean sprouts is another favourite. I do love it when we go to visit family in a city with a proper Chinatown with more on the menu, then I get sui mai dumplings and bao buns, with greens and garlic. Yummy!
We live miles from a China town but our favourite chinese does Sui Mai dumplings and pulled pork bao buns.
userxx · 20/08/2021 20:03

@Nonicknamesforcatapillars Capital spare ribs?

TimeForTeaAndG · 20/08/2021 20:03

What did you choose, OP?

You can ask for items by number if you're worried about mispronouncing.

I go by the assumption that every dish needs rice unless it's the chow mein noodles or the ones called Something Fried Rice.

I like getting chicken chow mein cos our takeaway does that in huge portions so there is always plenty leftover for lunch the next day.

Chicken with green peppers and black bean sauce is the tits.
Prawn sesame toast.
Mini veg rolls.
Aromatic crispy duck with pancakes (you need to shred the duck) is always good but they never give you enough cucumber.

MrsPnut · 20/08/2021 20:05

We have some variation of Crispy pork belly, chicken in satay sauce, crispy chilli beef, salt and pepper chicken or Kung po chicken. We always have special fried rice, plain chow mien and sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style. Veg spring rolls and prawn crackers are also a must.

NalPolishRemover · 20/08/2021 20:07

We usually order a selection of:
Aromatic duck with pancakes
Crispy chilli chicken
Chicken satay (not skewers)
King prawn schezchuan
Spring rolls
Fried rice
Fried noodles
Curry sauce
Prawn crackers

We don't order all of this but these are the main dishes we love

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/08/2021 20:08

Has nobody mentioned Fu Yung? I love the special one with a bit of all the meats, prawns and veg in.

Confusedandshaken · 20/08/2021 20:11

You've made me realise I'm the same. Always Singapore noodles and crispy chilli beef. I'm not going to change either. It's delicious.

nutellamagnet · 20/08/2021 20:14

Oh Christ I need a Chinese!

Chicken chow main
Crispy shredded chilli beef
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Satay chicken skewers
Kung po chicken

It is a lot of chicken but 😍

userxx · 20/08/2021 20:17

@Nonicknamesforcatapillars I'm literally drooling!! I've never seen capital ribs on the menu. Must try a different takeaway.
