to support extinction rebellion - more London action tomorrow

I am not sure what, but I have seen their previous demonstrations, and support their cause.

We were given badges at one event, and travelled home on public transport wearing them, and received absolutely nothing but 100% support from other travellers, which was nice, as I expected some hostility, publicly wearing their badges while roads in London were closed by them

Oh no not THEM again Hmm Over privileged spoilt brats with more money than sense. About time they got a bloody job.

Sunny weather predicted is it? Never see them 'protesting' in sub zero temperatures do you? Wink

Someone needs to hose them down. DREADFUL people.

Many of them are retired professional, with 40 or 50 years working life behind them, so I don't understand your comment "its about time they got a job"

And yes, I have seen them protesting in poor weather

Extinction rebellion is a group that take direct action to raise awareness about the need to protect the environment and limit climate change

Bit difficult to travel home on public transport when these twats super glue themselves to the train and roads.

FightingtheFoo · 20/08/2021 00:08

The amount of rubbish I saw dumped behind some buildings on regent street during one of the protests was astounding. Coffee cups and placards.

Oh and because I couldn't get to my appointment because they were blocking Oxford Circus I had to dump my car and power walk for 20 mins and ended up having a medical emergency with my blood sugar.

Fuck extinction rebellion.

OhWhyNot · 20/08/2021 00:13

Is Emma Thompson flying in again (first class of course) let’s hope so

How could I support them when peoples lives who earn an hourly wage were so disrupted last time and they just didn’t care

NantesElephant · 20/08/2021 00:34

Good for them. I support their actions, and the more disruptive the better if it wakes people up. The disruption will be nothing compared to what runaway climate change will bring.

GreatBritishWineDrinker · 20/08/2021 00:42

Biscuit Hmm

MaliceOrgan · 20/08/2021 00:43

do you know where this is taking place? I have to get into central London tomorrow (for a hospital appointment) and I am nervous enough about the appointment without having to face the tube as well so was going to catch the bus. Do I need to worry about road closures and all the other disruption they caused last time?

exactly, all the other issues people on this thread are complaining about are exactly nothing compared to what is coming if we don't change the way we look after the planet

I believe Trafalgar square, and around that area, but I am not sure.

Good for them. It's scary how fucked we are.

Theluggage15 · 20/08/2021 05:42

Bunch of middle class twats. Overwhelmingly white little cult it is too. The U.K. is responsible for 1% of global carbon emissions, why don’t they protest somewhere like China and see how that goes down.

Whattheflecker · 20/08/2021 05:55

Reading the responses on here, our kids are totally fucked aren't they 😞

KingdomScrolls · 20/08/2021 06:04

I was on a train with a load of them during one of the first waves, very middle class and all talking about their long haul holidays 🤦‍♀️

PineapplePanda · 20/08/2021 06:12

Yeah when they stopped working class people on hourly rates getting from East London to work the other year it was hilarious! Hmm It really taught those hard working members of public who couldn't use public transport and had to revert to lots of cars to get to work a lesson about the environment!

Their actions are counter productive.

I get their cause I don't support their methods of protest.

They have defaced many of the businesses in my community with their posters. Money that will have to come out of the tax payers money to have removed. AGAIN - counter productive!

IMHO they are pretty darn stupid and I'm sure all their poster fly-tipping isn't great for the environment either.

Notjustanymum · 20/08/2021 06:17

Their hearts are in the right place, but since the reaction to their methods of protest is so negative they are actually damaging their own cause IMO. Being proud of getting arrested for breaking the law might give them some frisson of self-importance in their own middle-class peer groups, but in terms of reducing carbon emissions or single-use plastics, I can’t see that they have made any difference to government policies so far, nor the hearts and minds of those who their antics affect so negatively.

Whinginadeville · 20/08/2021 06:23

Will you be flying in on your private jet and preventing the peasants getting to work? Do you live as carbon neutral a life as possible or does Ocado deliver every week? You can do and be far more effective than this if you want to be the change.

Seagullsstopit · 20/08/2021 06:25

I got caught up in some of the London bullshit before covid.
The littering was horrendous, they were disruptive, rude, and targeted the wrong people.
Thousands of lovely glossy leaflets blowing all around Liverpool Street and protesters hell bent on causing upset to the people they need onside the most.
Bravo
slow clap

lannistunut · 20/08/2021 06:25

I support their objectives and I support the principle of disruption, but I think occasionally their protests could do with more thought.

The abuse they get is exactly what suffragettes got, that is the whole point of disruption - to disrupt.

Clearly on the environment they are right, there is a crisis, we are not doing enough.

Namechangeforthisbit · 20/08/2021 06:33

If you had spoken to them they would have transported you

How were they transporting people?

People should have to ask them, to get to a medical appointment. People should just be able to get to the medical appointment.

Love how, you totally ignored the huge amount of litter they left.

Whilst I agree that we need to do more to tackle climate change, I am not going to support them. They were gleeful, that they were stopping people getting to work. Many of whom were already financially struggling and losing a days wage would have a devastating blow. They are completely hypocritical.

They also seem to have no clue that some people NEED to get to work or can't pay their bills every day. People need to go to medical appointents.

They must be hugely privileged to not understand this.
