I don’t have an Aldi near me, not been in one, but I’ve heard they’re pretty good? Is it worth risking my life to shop there?

Imagine if bomb disposal teams diffused?

Messy.

@Yoksha

This very same thing happened to me a few years ago. When I asked assistant to slow up a bit she responded with "We're not here for customer convenience". Taken aback I tried to keep up. Sheer fury drove me. In the end I just held up my hands and said "F**k you", and walked out leaving a half full trolley, food on the checkout and food on the floor. Never went back. I didn't melt down until I was in the car. Angry
I would have loved to have seen this in person
Tanith · 18/08/2021 16:55

Had this in Asda’s years ago when I was with my dad.
Never one for patience, he told the cashier that the next can he threw at us was coming back at him twice as hard Blush
At least it did stop the onslaught and, yes, it’s absolutely down to management pressure to get as many trolleys through as quickly as possible.

Christmasfairy2020 · 18/08/2021 16:56

At aldi u bag at the car and put groceries straight in basket

Hugoslavia · 18/08/2021 16:58

How does a story like this even get picked up by the press?

emmathedilemma · 18/08/2021 17:04

I always bag at the checkout in Aldi and can keep up with them scanning. I can't be doing with double handling stuff and putting it in the trolley then packing at the counter or at the car, it might be efficient for them but it's not for me!!
You need to be prepared.....have those bags that hang over the sides of your trolley or have the bags for life that stand up open when empty. Put similar type products down the conveyor belt together e.g. bottles, tins, fruit & veg, meat / fish so you can pack efficiently and fill a bag at time. Anything squashable or breakable such as crisps and eggs goes down last so you sit them on top of full bags. Big things don't really need a bag e.g. boxes of cereal, toilet rolls also go down last and can just sit round the sides of the bags in the trolley and go straight in the car boot or bagged later.
Yes, it's practically an olympic sport if you get somone who's fast at scanning but it's hardly a traumatic experience!!

You all know the sun pays for articles right? Maybe she hammed it up and made herself £100...

ChipButties · 18/08/2021 17:05

@Mummyoflittledragon

I’d say definitely not. She didn’t snap and fart as she bent down.
I forgot about that thread! I may have to find it again, made me cry with laughter

Haha, that article is just ludicrous.

The staff get timed and whoever works the quickest is rewarded at the end of the week, if you’ve worked slowly (so haven’t managed to get x amount of items in an hour or whatever) the manager will have a word with you. They are paid more than other supermarket workers by quite a stretch so it’s maybe worth it. Do think it’s why most aldi staff are under 40 though, it’s a fast paced job.

Hemingwaycat · 18/08/2021 17:09

We use IKEA bags so we just leave the bags wide open in the trolley and throw everything straight in.

SingingInTheShithouse · 18/08/2021 17:10

Are you sure this isn't a stealth advert on the back of their Colin the Caterpillar campaign success🤔, as that hope of a super fast check out is making me want to shop there more often

HerMammy · 18/08/2021 17:10

You aren’t meant to pack your bags at the checkout, you’re supposed to laid it all back into the trolley and pack elsewhere.
Dozy cow.

Riddo · 18/08/2021 17:14

I asked about the speed at my local Aldi as I was struggling to keep up just putting things in my trolley. The cashier said that they are expected to scan 1000 items an hour and if they consistently fail, they get disciplined.

I could never work there, I'm just not quick enough.

Antsinyourpanta · 18/08/2021 17:29

I used to challenge myself to bag at the speed of the cashier!!!!

I've only managed it once! I felt really proud 🤣
I start feeling really optimistic, and sort the bags out in the trolley and pretend I'm all ready. By item 10 I've given up and resigned myself to using the packing shelf.

endofthelinefinally · 18/08/2021 17:33

I read this and thought why on earth didn't she use the packing shelf?

EmeraldShamrock · 18/08/2021 17:34

Surely you had a meltdown at the store while leaving without food.
You could have calmly asked for a manager.
DP was a manager in Lidl it is all target performance based, if you're slow you'll lose bonus incentives.
They've a tough job and work harder than any other supermarket staff keeping the prices low.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/08/2021 17:35

I saw that few days ago and that was exactly my thoyght! I just wasn't brave enough to post it😂

Aggressive acanning. What a time to be alive

brokenbiscuitsx · 18/08/2021 17:36

All I’m going to say to the below quote is bollocks they are! 🤣

An Aldi spokesperson told the Mirror: “Our colleagues are trained to work at a pace suitable for each individual customer.

@CovidCorvid

I don’t think a Mumsnetter would embarrass herself by running to the press talking about being traumatised by such an event. She needs to Get a grip.

What I don’t understand is if she’s been shopping at aldi for ten years how come she hasn’t grasped the concept of not bagging at the checkout? All she had to do was sweep it all into the trolly and pack at the shelves!

I don’t think any MNer runs to the press I think they just pinch things from forums as they’re lazy 🤭

Crying and shaking made me think it was a MNer too but I scroll through most mornings and havent seen this thread 🤔

Dizzy1234 · 18/08/2021 17:39

She's a drama queen, everyone knows you don't pack your bags at the checkout, you shove it all back in the trolley and pack it into your bags on the shelf behind the checkout.
If I was aldi I'd ban her 😉
Traumatised 😂

Nahhh · 18/08/2021 17:42

When my anxiety/ depression isn’t treated I could easily have a complete meltdown over something like this. I find shopping stressful at the best of times.

The Sun does pay for articles... They'll have paid the social media sniffer. The woman will have got nothing. Nothing but grief, that is.

It was in like 6 newspapers, not just sun
