To be furious with the way social care is(n't) run in this country?

I know I know I should have gotten angry about this before it affected me but... Mother has had severe stroke and is marooned in a community hospital in the back of beyond because there are no carers. None. Not in the community, not in nursing homes. The hospital is embarrassed. I'm quietly seething that a woman who has paid taxes all her life (forgive the cliche) has been left like this. There are no physios in the hospital so she is getting no rehab. I don't blame the hospital or any of the care agencies or companies. But I am raging with impotence.
Father is being cared for full time at home by a good private agency (we are paying) but even they cannot supply anyone.
The lady in the neighbouring bed to mother is way better than she is but has been waiting since early July for a care package to go home to.
What kind of place are we living in?
I do blame Brexit in part but don't want this to be a debate abut Brexit.
What can we do? It's AWFUL and inhumane

Use your mum and dad's great assets to pay for a nursing or residential care home?
Or she could use them to assist you to read the thread? There probably isn't anyone to do that either, even if you privately find.

However, the main issue is lack of investment by successive governments
No it's the public who won't have it - Theresa May lost loads of seats with her tax for care - it got dubbed the dementia tax and, as far as I am aware it was largely the elderly thinking the Gov was after their property and savings who were against it - you couldn't make it up.
Why aren't your elderly relatives making contingency plans ? I'm old enough that I have some plans and enough money to have things covered - why oh why are people waiting until they can't manage them presuming someone will step in- it's crazy.
I don't think blaming Brexit is right when in fact it's inadequate wages so only poor foreign people will do the work.
There is a social care bill being planned in parliament at the moment. Hopefully it might help the situation.

I agree a hike in NI affects the young. Why is inheritance tax untouchable? Surely that would be better than young people with little wealth paying
Because its the old voting for the tories, and most tories in power are old. They don't want to lose their money or voters.

We would but if you read my posts you'll find carers can't be found d for live or money full stop. In fact Mum is now home with full time care which we are paying for. We'd have done so sooner BUt THERE WERE NO CARERS. I'm not moaning about our problem alone. It's EVERYONE's problem. And breathe....

No nursing home places either by the way. One home even told me they had rooms but no people to staff them to safe levels.

Because people who want inheritance tax to be untouchable often vote Conservative.

@badgerswitharms

badgerswitharms · 03/09/2021 17:33

@Refreshpage sorry couldn't be bothered to read your post, apparently it's optional. But have you thought about reading the original post? Sometimes it helps to raise a coherent argument.

Why would anyone want to be a care worker ? They are under valued, underpaid and treated poorly by their employers .

I pay a high hourly rate to my mother's care company, although I don't know how much is passed on. I do know that my mother's carers are not treated poorly by their employers and they are very highly valued by us.

The reason why this problem hasn't been sorted and why in 2031 the posts will still be the same is because people make it a political football. Ooo, its the evil Tories; no, its the useless socialists. Its pathetic. In the last 22 years labour has been in power for 11 years and the Conservatives have been in power for 11 years. Neither of them have sorted it. Social care and the NHS need to be removed from political hands.
