Rule given to be a God Parent

Idiotalert · 16/08/2021 12:27

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
My DD has been asked by her friend to be a God Parent to her child.
This Friend has stipulated that all the GPs have to agree to see the child on Mondays Wednesdays and Saturdays
or Tuesdays Thursdays and Sundays.
Must agree to take said child away at least once a year. And she wants it in writing. Also proof that they were baptised
in a church. This friends wedding had silly ideas and now this. One bridesmaid was told that she needed to loose 3 stone
or not be one. Her mum wasn't in hardly any photos as she wasn't stylish??? No children at the wedding.
DD explained that as she works full time has 3 children of her own will not be able to be a GP.
Friend has now cut off DD and 2 others from the list.
Is this what the world is coming to.
I can understand that she wants people in her child's life but these rules are ridiculous.

I don't think she realises that being a Godparent isn't the amazing privilege she thinks it is. It would be a no from me and I wouldn't be making any effort to keep in touch either.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 16/08/2021 13:42

I’m howling wtaf.

What nutter would actually agree?!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 16/08/2021 13:43

A least they're not asking for money like this one...

I hate all thecrap surrounding being a godparent. My friend was told if anything happens to the parents the godparents take over guardianship- eh no, then all siblings would be separated and living with people their parents were friends with at the time!!! Agreeing to be a godparent is just an agreement that spiritually you'll look out for them.

BlowDryRat · 16/08/2021 13:54

If someone truly is this selfish and bizarre then your DD is much better off without them in her life.

Patapouf · 16/08/2021 13:57

Hahaha what a nutter. My godparents did some lovely stuff with me when I was little but it wasn't bloody weekly!

LookItsMeAgain · 16/08/2021 13:59

@MindyStClaire

Christ. I guess it's one way to get free childcare.
Yep. Until everyone realises that is what is going on and no one will want to be GP to this child...Poor kid.
LadyJaye · 16/08/2021 14:04

@Seeingadistance - I've just googled that and you're absolutely right, it refers to 'appropriate adults'.

I'm no longer of faith myself, but my uncle is a minister, my parents and grandparents were Kirk elders and I went right through Sunday School, Bible Class etc without knowing that. Grin

knittingaddict · 16/08/2021 14:07

Some C of E churches do request that godparents are baptised/christened themselves as they are promising to help bring up the child in the Christian faith. That may not be this women's odd idea and may be a requirement of the church.

The rest is unbelievable.

knittingaddict · 16/08/2021 14:09

Probably best not to get too invested in this one.

aiwblam · 16/08/2021 14:11

Your dd is better without this idiot in her life

ThanksItHasPockets · 16/08/2021 14:18

The proof of baptism is legitimate. The rest is literally incredible.

Mrsmadevans · 16/08/2021 14:22

Tell her you are not worthy enough Grin

Is your daughter wealthy by any chance?

My oh cousin has dozens of god children… she’s shopping for Christmas from September onwards

Your dd is right to decline, and thank god this woman has done the favour of cutting her off

MrsJuliaGulia · 16/08/2021 14:33

got to be a windup surely.

Somanysocks · 16/08/2021 14:35

Of course it's a wind up.

CoffeeRunner · 16/08/2021 14:38

Denise is that you? You know Cheryl from next door will do all your babysitting if you make her godmother.

And there's always the old woman from 4 doors down who smells a bit like tinned salmon.......

EastWestWhosBest · 16/08/2021 14:41

My godmother was a lovely woman who looked after me once in a while and took me to church at Christmas.
I don’t think anything like this was written in to the deal!

gogohm · 16/08/2021 14:44

The only reasonable bit was that they were baptised, kind of the point of the exercise is too provide Christian education! Yes godparents should be baptised, the rest is crazy

GreenTortoise · 16/08/2021 14:45

🤣🤣.

She sounds like a controlling little turd.

saraclara · 16/08/2021 14:46

Is it still troll hunting if one wonders if it's a Mail journalist making these recent OTT OP's?

CoronaPeroni · 16/08/2021 14:51

There needs to be another title for this 'job'. I thought Godparents were there for spiritual guidance but I hear so much of parents' expectations, money, presents etc that the spiritual side doesn't really come into it. I don't know whether parents are religious themselves or just think christenings are the done thing and need Godparents but don't consider their role. These poor sods suckered into it need a title like Giftparents or Gullibleparents.

Terhou · 16/08/2021 14:52

I wonder how she plans to enforce these agreements if she manages to persuade anyone to accept them? It's not like she'll be able to take the godparents to court.

gingercat02 · 16/08/2021 14:53

My godson lives a 2 hour drive away! I saw him 2 or 3 times a year pre covid.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/08/2021 14:57

Wow! I missed a trick when asking people to be god parents…
