Are you the kind of person to name a plant/car/robot hoover?

Or any other object/household item of choice Grin
I've bought a lovely big plant for my teen's newly decorated bedroom. I've named him Denzel and my children think I've finally gone coco pops Confused
I wouldn't say I love Denzel exactly ok, I do a bit but I'm certainly invested in him and very much hope he'll thrive! I greet him every morning Blush
I'm curious to know if other people are a bit like me, or if a plant's just a plant ...

We only name things with a pulse! Best friend names stiff, handbags especially. I play along with it :-)

AuntieStella · 13/08/2021 20:59

I've named cars and plants.

I've never had a robit hoover

Actually, there is a distinct lack of named things (other than people and animals) at the moment. Am I losing my mojo?

Roonilwazlib1 · 13/08/2021 21:00

No I don't name anything! Didn't even name my first car when I was 19 but most of my friends seem to have names for their cars.

I don't know whether I'm just not sentimental or if I'm miserable Grin

meadowbleu · 13/08/2021 21:00

People who name their cars give me a “I’m mad, me!” vibe

I'd never admit it in real life, only here under the cover of anonymity Grin
It's a bit of shorthand between me and DH.

SuperSketchy · 13/08/2021 21:01

I have named a plant. Gavin, the dragon plant. And he was a total asshole.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/08/2021 21:02

All our cars have had names, but only one plant - a fern named Fernando, originally enough. DH calls the dishwasher "Dishy", but they do have a deep and very special bond.

Knittedfairies · 13/08/2021 21:04

We have several things with names. My favourite is the mallet for knocking in tent pegs who rejoices in the name Madam Fifi, the Rubber Persuader.

cungryhow · 13/08/2021 21:05

Monty the eufy robo hoover thingy and Raymond the rhino shaped footstool.

AutistGoth · 13/08/2021 21:06

My DH named his car. His parents were very much into naming things like you say. Us less so, but we do have a few named objects. Our collection of plush toys all have names - strangely none of our houseplants do, though I do talk to them.

soughsigh · 13/08/2021 21:07

I named my first car (it had a lot of personality) and have named houseplants. A robot hoover would 100% have a name too.

Oddly enough, none of my DS's soft toys had names, his grandparents have named them all (they are extremely original with them - Leo the lion etc).

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 13/08/2021 21:09

My robot hoover is named after my friend's husband who cleans all the time
I only name a car if I feel a bond and I don't always

AutistGoth · 13/08/2021 21:09

Nothing wrong with Leo the Lion! I have one! I'm a thirty something married woman and I make no apologies for it. 🦁Grin

Summernamechange2021 · 13/08/2021 21:10

Our robovac is called Herbert. I have no idea why though, I cant remember Confused l. I have a feeling it came from a tv programme but cant for the life of me think what it was.

ImperialLeather00 · 13/08/2021 21:11

Our big house plants are called Big Bertha & Maud. Then another two twin house plants are Artomis & Apollo.

Two sets of big twin plants outside are called Tosin & Toyin and then there is Rupert & Rupinta.

Our car is called Max.

I’m glad we are not alone in naming them! The kids love calling them by their names and helps them to look after the plants!

robotcollision · 13/08/2021 21:11

Yes, quite a few of our plants have names. I got a massive houseplant for my birthday and she's called Gloria. I talk to her and give her spells in the garden on sunny days. DS1 has a cactus called Liz.

Warsawa31 · 13/08/2021 21:12

Yep most of our plants have names as do several appliances.

The best one is a lamp called azziz - from the open of the 5th element when the man says "azziz light!!"

So whenever we turn him on we say azziz light!!

therocinante · 13/08/2021 21:14

My car has a name (I bought the car off a friend, he came with the name)

The tumble dryer is the make Candy, so that's her name.

Chocolateandamaretto · 13/08/2021 21:14

My robot hoover is called susie. Sometimes she gets stuck on the door mat and I can hear my husband grumble “for fucks sake Susan” from the other room and it makes me chuckle….
Me and DH have named every car we’ve had, cars always need a name!

dementedma · 13/08/2021 21:16

They cope ok with being split and repotted. Go very sulky and droopy to start with then get over themselves and pick up with feed and water.

SirenSays · 13/08/2021 21:17

I named my campervan Pearl, she was a battered old thing on her last legs. When she broke down we moved into a hostel and I was telling the girls there "oh we were travelling with pearl but she died so now we're here for a couple of weeks" Of course everyone freaked out thinking I was casually talking about a friend we had been travelling with who had literally died.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/08/2021 21:18

My satnav is called Dora (as in explorer)

ShinyMe · 13/08/2021 21:19

I never would, I just don't get it. But I'm not about to judge - I have a toy mouse who has a whole personality and a voice and the occasional photo shoot in public, so I'm noone to talk.

TheSockMonster · 13/08/2021 21:20

Of course. But mostly only in my head.

akissbeforebed · 13/08/2021 21:21

My fridge freezer is called Geoffrey. DH named him.

RandomCatGenerator · 13/08/2021 21:22

@popebenedictsp45

No. People who name their cars give me a “I’m mad, me!” vibe.
This is exactly how I feel.

A close relative names everything. I HATE it to a completely irrational extent.
