Friends don’t believe in vaccinations or calpol

I have some friends who are new parents and have declared that their child won’t be having any childhood vaccinations and that they also don’t believe in giving kids calpol or other medicines either.

Honestly, I didn’t know what to say when they said that to me- I haven’t come accross people who were anti calpol before 🤦‍♀️

Aibu to think it’s quite irresponsible if your child is ill not to get their temp down with calpol and that you are risking things getting a lot worse, especially with really small babies that get ill and deteriorate really fast. Let alone the whole anti vax position.

Honestly, I am still really baffled by their position to be honest. I think it’s really weird and irresponsible not to want your child to feel well 🤪

I would have thought that if a child was ill enough to require Calpol that sugar and food colouring would be the least of your problems - allergies/diabetes excepted.

I believe that suppositories are more popular in continental Europe, but they have never been popular here. I can't think that any small child would enjoy having one either.

I used calpol for pain, but not for fever if the child seemed well and it wasn’t dangerously high. The temp is there for a reason
Op if other people’s parenting decisions are that important to you and you can’t co exist with those who have differing views to yours then maybe you should reconsider the friendship and find some like minded families

@GalaxyGirl24

I've just seen on here that they still do sugary calpol! Where from?!?! Sugar free is vile and I'm convinced that's why DD hates it
Yes I also want to know this! Tried to buy some the other day and got such judgement from the pharmacist in Boots.

The one with sugar doesn’t say sugar free on the front, our Aldi Tesco pharmacy stocks it, you can buy it online as well.

Clearly in the my pfb body is a temple phase Smile when the child has been crying and groggy all day and won't settle at night they may rethink

Dh is very against medication even when he had terrible colitis

He might have regretted that if he lost his colon.

GalaxyGirl24 · 14/08/2021 08:10

@domesticgoddess3 Why the odd/confused face? People have a right to choose how they manage their illness do they not?

GalaxyGirl24 · 14/08/2021 08:11

@MissyB1 Yes, he might well have. I would have preferred him to take the medication (if it had been offered in time!) but unfortunately his colitis was managed extremely poorly and he had to take his health into his own hands.

@SimonJT Thank you :)

So these people are prepared to risk their child getting polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, measles ?

Justa47 · 15/08/2021 17:43

@GalaxyGirl24

Your SIL is a disgrace for not getting her child vaccinated.
She read relying on disease being low because other have their kids vaccinated.
They makes her a sucker of others

If she says the data isn’t there etc for vaccines she is clinically sub normal intellect and needs to seek help.

GalaxyGirl24 · 15/08/2021 18:52

Hmmmmm @Justa47 I'm not sure it would be correct to assume she's 'sub normal intellect' because she's made a different medical decision to you for her child.
