To be upset/offended by this?

We've just got a tabby kitten and was looking at our local pet shops website and saw it said:

'Whether you have a superb Persian Princess or an ugly old tabby...'

AIBU to be upset and want to say it should be changed?

The word ugly just seems so unnecessary and unkind especially when comparing it to an expensive breed.

It’s a stupid marketing strategy, not least because there are lots more of us with (incredibly gorgeous) tabbies than Persians, so writing something which could alienate potential customers is just weird business practice. Or has negging crept in there now too??

Either way, YANBU to be annoyed, but offended might be taking it a wee bit far. You can point it out to them if you want, but you can also decide to just not shop there.

I wouldn't assume that "ugly old tabby," means that any old tabby is ugly. But certainly some are. Just like some Persians are beautiful and some are not as much.

Regardless, if your cat read the sign and is offended, YANBU. If not, YABU.

Honestly, who cares? It's just one opinion, it's your problem if you allow it to ruin your day. I think tabbies are gorgeous.

I believe black cats are actually tabbys in dsiguise. In the right light you can sometimes see 'shadows' of their stripes.

Make sure your cat doesn't read it.

I've owned been the house servant for tabbies. They are gorgeous. There's also a fair few of them so suspect that shop's takings on cat food sales are going down. Not sparkling marketing guys. The tabby pound is real.

It’s spectacularly stupid. No cat is ugly and the distinction between breeds is purrile puerile. It’s obviously someone trying to be jaunty and light hearted but it’s a fail.

I have a (rescue) standard black and white moggy and I, too, would take exception to that nonsense. All cats are best cats.

They should substitute 'common' for 'ugly', if thats the angle they're going for. 'Ugly' is an ugly word. YANBU.

It's just bad copy....some old cats ARE ugly. I'd have written something like "Whether you have a show cat or a moggy" instead.

Obviously the cat doesn't care and it hasn't ruined my day. I will still shop there. It surprised a pet website trying to gain customers would call a cat ugly,

My cat has some tabby markings but mainly white. He's porky and likes rolling around in dirt and I called him a chubster grubster this evening. My DP was offended on behalf of the cat.

No I would not be ‘upset’ or ‘offended’ by that. I suggest you go and find a shop that sells grips and get one.

Tabbies are far from ugly. But I wouldn't be offended. Think it's because they're more of a "common" cat rather than one of these fancy pedigrees. My tabby knows she's gorgeous.

God, can you imagine the chaos an internet savvy tabby could wreak? Imagine how many tins of tuna you'd end up having delivered. And then they'd go off it and send it back.

Tit head pet shop owner has successfully offended quite a lot of clients. Genuine cat minded people know all cats are amazing, and different, and official breed has nothing to do with it.
