What tiny things have you done to specifically annoy someone?

FlyingSoHigh · 10/08/2021 23:18

My Mil came from a pretty wealthy family and definitely saw herself as a 'cut above' most people.
So I always used to chop carrots into rounds when she came for a meal as I knew she thought it was 'common'; posh people always cut carrots into sticks.
It was a tiny thing but it gave me so much pleasure over the years.Grin
Can anyone beat passive-aggressive cooked carrots?

@Bakingdiva

I bought myself a bracelet that spells out 'fuck off! In morse code. Flashing it makes me feel better in many different scenarios
Not sure if that counts as annoying someone as I don't think any of the recipients have a clue, but it makes me feel better
Weredone · 11/08/2021 12:37

@Bashfulinseduary I take great pleasure in always doing this with people I know who don’t like me Wink

Iwanttobeanonymous · 11/08/2021 12:40

@SedentaryCat

After a row about something really silly where I thought he was being an idiot, I ironed DHs boxer shorts (I don't usually Smile) and put creases in awkward places.

Not sure if he even noticed, but I enjoyed doing it!

Using spray starch on them is soooo satisfying!!

@MsHedgehog

Gosh so many people here who are just on to moan and criticise! What’s the view like from up there on your high horse?
Much better to play spiteful practical jokes on people just for fun, sometimes carrying it on for ten years, eh? Or to dance with glee after disturbing your husband’s work by secretly switching off the wifi. Or to switch somebody’s heated seat on ‘just to see them squirm’ because you have decided that they are ‘stupid’. Or to refuse to look at a colleague for five years because you decided that they had been ‘very rude’. Yes, your way is best.

Devices that turn off TV screens

Really easy to find. Look for a universal remote control app on your phone. I use them in pubs when we're given the booths with the little TV's in that are almost always showing bloody Bing.

Yep, I had to download one when we were on holiday. Because we were unable to stream anything on a previous visit, i'd smugly brought a dvd player and hdmi cable and some movies for us to watch. Set it all up, popped in the first movie and realised I hadn't brought the remote control!!

Took a couple of different downloads to get something compatible but was chuffed when it worked.

So sorry to derail but this thread reminds me of a past thread. Something about an OP who had a friend whose family had a long running joke lr something. But you couldn’t be told the joke you had to work it out. Does anyone remember it? This thread makes me think it was all a wind up🤣🤣🤣

Meh.

BamberGascoine · 11/08/2021 12:48

Oh and some of these are brilliant. I have done the mug one on DH, usually because he does it to me. I think I’m teaching him a lesson because he uses the wrong mug so obviously doesn’t know what I like. Clearly I’ve been an utter bastard to him and he was getting his revenge

earlydoors42 · 11/08/2021 12:48

My ex husband hated stickers on book covers (like buy one get one half price) so I would enjoy leaving them on my books.

k1233 · 11/08/2021 12:49

At parents of an ex I was very rudely told not to touch the light switches because every time I was over the back spotlight got turned on. I very politely asked which switch was the culprit? It was pointed out. I'd never touched it. But from that day on, if I remembered, every time I was over I made sure to turn it on.

I absolutely hate people saying you do xyz all the time. If they piss me off enough I will make sure their statement is correct.

StoppinBy · 11/08/2021 12:49

@SunshineCake ...well he could but he doesn't lol. Don't worry yourself, he does it to me too. It's not because we are cranky or annoyed with each other, it's just something we do to mildly annoy the other, we just grumble a tiny bit then try to be the next one to put out the cutlery Grin .

We have some really blunt old steak knives that we still have for some reason and they are the ones that end up on our plates hah.

I remember that one (vaguely) Grin

It wasn't that, but something about stairs, and mail or post...

It made absolutely no sense and wasn't remotely funny. Definitively a wind-up, but some posters went to astonishing lengths to try to turn a nonsense sentence into a joke.

SweetPetrichor · 11/08/2021 12:52

I enjoy driving exactly on the speed limit when someone’s tailgating. Or a smidge below the speed limit if they’re really annoying me.

yes, me too. Sometimes they get the vibe and back off so if I'm below the limit i'll speed back up to it again as a wee reward for them.
SycamoreGap · 11/08/2021 12:54

Making DH half a cup of coffee is guaranteed to wind him up. He usually know why though and follows up with a “you did that on purpose didn’t you? I’ve been an arse haven’t I?”.

41sunnydays · 11/08/2021 12:55

@Amima

I have a tiny gadget the size of my thumb that beeps and chirps at random intervals. Its sole purpose is to annoy people. The sound is short and irregular so the gadget is difficult to locate. When DH annoys me I turn it on and hide it somewhere. Been doing it for ten years and he’s never found it yet. He was particularly puzzled when we moved house and the mysterious chirp came with us!
Love this - where can I get one from!
LH1987 · 11/08/2021 12:56

Plugging a wireless mouse into an annoying colleagues computer and watch them get increasingly frustrated when the mouse if moving all over the place.

My MIL thinks all women over 30 should cut their hair short. She got her Lego lady haircut at 30, so obviously we all have to do the same, as long hair is unsightly on an over the hill mid-30s woman like me.

I usually tie my hair back in a ponytail or bun, but when we go to MILs house I always make sure I wear my hair down to show off my long, flowing locks. Hopefully I have shed a few hairs on her couch over the years.

My mum thinks this too!
ExConstance · 11/08/2021 12:58

Responding to my line manager's verbose and pedantic emails with friendly ones of less than 5 words if possible. It irritates her beyond belief and now I'm approaching retirement there is nothing she can do about it!

BamberGascoine · 11/08/2021 12:59

@alltheemptyfields yes!! That was it. I definitely think it was a wind up!

MaMelon · 11/08/2021 12:59

I hide things that annoy me (like horrible pants of DHs) in the ironing basket, safe in the knowledge that none of the fuckers will ever find them.

In ridiculous, pointless, arbitrary 20mph zones at 7am when the road is deserted I actually don’t care if I tailgate someone doing 19mph. In fact, I occasionally overtake and then do 14 mph. I don’t care. Alternatively, if someone is obviously wanting to go faster than me I just pull in whenever I can and let them go. It’s easier all round.

LizzieSiddal · 11/08/2021 13:02

This is what I don’t get about many of the comments on this thread. Why not just tell your DH he’s being an arse, while he’s being an arse. Why do you have to make him half a cup of coffee? It’s just playing games, life’s too short IMO!

Starseeking · 11/08/2021 13:05

My EXDP used to complain that I used too much washing up liquid I used when cleaning the dishes, I wouldn't ordinarily mind, except he rarely washed any dishes.

Whenever he came into the kitchen while I was washing up, I used to squeeze out an extra amount similar to the grand gestures of Rowan Atkinson in the Selfridges scene in Love Actually just to annoy him. It worked a treat!

Completely unrelated to the thread, but I spent my childhood believing that carrots cut into rounds were a completely different vegetable to sticks.

As a toddler, I did not like carrots. But one day I was given them cut up in rounds instead, and my Mum told me these were Beelos. Stupid 2 year old me liked Beelos!

The lies and betrayal continued, and the longer it went on, the less able my parents were to shatter my entire (carrot-related) world view.
Until one day around age 10 at a friends house I was served Beelos.

"Ooh Beelos!" said poor innocent me. "What on earth are Beelos?" said my friend.

It took years for me to trust my parents again, but I did manage it. Until one day my Dad hands me an olive and says "Have a grape!"

I am now 38. I still do not trust my father.

@WolfFleeceSpotter

A few jobs back, my old boss was vile. If I had an excuse to go in his office, I would make a point of twisting the phone cord around so when he picked up the phone, the cable was very short and he would have to speak to the person with his head close to the phone whilst he untangled it.
This is my favourite yet!
