For anything specific or just in general

PicsInRed · 09/08/2021 22:26

Yes and no, they feel the stress and heat of public judgement, but not remorse. It's the same as Tony Blair, presently desperately trying to rehabilitate himself, not from remorse for millions dead and an entire region wrecked, but simply wanting to restore his "good name" for posterity. Just watch, David Cameron will be doing the same soon enough.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 09/08/2021 22:27

Self pity when they are caught out but not genuine shame for what they've done i don't think

Buttons294749 · 09/08/2021 22:28

It's probably beaten out of them at Eton...

OverByYer · 09/08/2021 22:28

Don’t be daft. People like him and Boris only care about themselves and their bank balances

RoastedHazelnutLatte · 09/08/2021 22:29

They grow up in a world absent of normal morals. They don't feel shame because they don't think they've done anything wrong. They view other people's disapproval as being the misplaced judgement of the poor and stupid.

rottd · 09/08/2021 22:30

I don't think they do, I always wonder how do the manage at the school gates or the shops. I'd be so embarrassed but i think they are so egotistical & entitled it doesn't cross their mind.

Miniestelle · 09/08/2021 22:33

No, sadly. I've wondered this too. Ive come to the conclusion that elites like David Cameron, Johnson etc.. are bred with a sense of certainty that they will rule and have great power. To enable this to happen they must also have great confidence and self belief but also possess little empathy that actually sticks long enough to keep them awake at night. I don't think they would be able to function otherwise. That's my arm chair appraisal of them.

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 09/08/2021 22:37

No. Obviously he's been in the news today for greensill. I'm watching a BBC doc about the 2011 riots. Any scrutiny of his actions shows what an utter failure he was as prime minister.

StarryStarrySocks · 09/08/2021 22:39

Not a chance!

SlipperyLizard · 09/08/2021 22:40

I found this Guardian piece both compelling a d horrifying:

This.
campion · 09/08/2021 22:41

He ought to but it won't be happening. He's as entitled and smug as the day he skipped out of Downing Street leaving the mess for others to sort out. That went well.

Never mind, he managed to add another £7 million to his bank account before Greensill Capital went bust.

L1ttleSeahorse · 09/08/2021 22:41

@RoastedHazelnutLatte wow that describes my dad perfectly (not a politican but boarding school ..)

cardibach · 09/08/2021 22:41

This article from The Guardian explains it neatly. Upshot - no, he doesn’t feel shame.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 09/08/2021 22:41

Ditto to no shame but self pity/anger at the inconvenience of being found out. Wasn’t his dad named in the Panama papers for possibly dodgy tax stuff aka Cameron family werent tax payers?

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/news/2016/apr/04/panama-papers-david-cameron-father-tax-bahamas

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/news/2016/apr/07/david-cameron-admits-he-profited-fathers-offshore-fund-panama-papers

As ever, this is the stuff we know about and just one jurisdiction - I mean for all these tax dodgers.

cardibach · 09/08/2021 22:42

Beat me to it @SlipperyLizard! Was looking for the link and by the time I’d posted you had already found it!

It’s strange how the Guardian frequently write pieces about the iniquities of private education when so many of its journalists are privately educated and educated their children privately.

FergusSings · 09/08/2021 22:43

He feels entitled because he thinks he is better than other people. I know someone like him and I think he is a sociopath, you have to be.

alltheemptyfields · 09/08/2021 22:45

@Theunamedcat

For anything specific or just in general
that.

what has David Cameron done now?

hettie · 09/08/2021 22:46

Embarrassment and guilt are not the same as shame..... And yes I think they are riddled with shame but it's so intolerable to notice or acknowledge they conjure up all sorts of defenses to evade it (anger, denial, grandiosity...). But I think they were very shamed as young boys and it probably impacts them and us unfortunately deeply. Just not in a way that can ever allowed to be consciously acknowledged

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 09/08/2021 22:48

He’s up to this: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-58149765.amp

ranboo · 09/08/2021 22:50

I don't think that tories care about anyone but themselves, as a general rule.

Miniestelle · 09/08/2021 22:50

A great deal of the wealth of the Cameron's comes from the slave trade and the subsequent compensation payment made to them when slavery was abolished.

The governent borrowed the money to pay the compensation. A huge debt that I believe was only settled by the UK government in the last few years.

bettyboodecia · 09/08/2021 22:50

It's funny whose "legacy" endures. Cameron made an utter tit of himself over Brexit. Losing the referendum was bad enough, but then resigning in a panic just highlighted what a loser he was. Better never to be PM than go out that way (just ask Gideon).
