Just when you think ending a statement or sentence with "discuss", along comes "I'll wait."

It's so fucking obnoxious.

OP posts:
DriveMeCrazy1974 · 10/08/2021 15:40

My brother uses the 'I'll wait' at the end of a sentence. It drives me crazy! It's as if he thinks his opinion is the only one worth having and nobody will be able to think of anything cleverer to add to it. Grr. Another one I don't really like is 'it is what it is'. My brother (again) kept saying that at a time when we were going through the most stressful time ever. It didn't help, it just felt as if he was saying you can't change the fact because it's already happened. So annoying.

Reading this thread now I thought HTH might mean HONK THE HORN and now I can’t stop laughing at how wrong I was

Cheeseismymiddlename · 10/08/2021 15:43

@Kanaloa. Yes, that would be annoying .

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 10/08/2021 15:49

My mother, whenever she's giving me a (usually unjustified) bollocking, likes to end her rant with "now then" in a really self-satisfied, 'that's you fucking telt' kind of way.

It makes my blood boil.

@LysistrataVickers

End of.
Yes! I agree I hate this!!
Erictheavocado · 10/08/2021 23:22

There are several phrases I detest. I hate the Thought not, responses. If you are going to ask a question, at least give the person an opportunity to answer!
My other pet hate are those who copy and paste somebody else's post, make an alteration to it and then say ' There, fixed it for you'. I can almost hear the smug tone of voice as I read it.

AngryWhompingWillow · 11/08/2021 00:10

I have another one!

I have heard 3 or 4 people use it this fucking week alone.

When talking about a situation that has happened before and may happen again...

'It's one of them innit?'

Fucks. Me. RIGHT. OFFFFFFF! Angry

Oh my God! My mother used to do that but end with "Right!" Made me seethe with impotent rage.
rosamacrose · 11/08/2021 01:32

Also I have a relative (Australian) whom I love very much but who starts almost every sentence with
"Ah, look no"
As in:
Me: It's a lovely day today!
Relative: Ah, look no. It's always nice this time of year.
What?

GinJeanie · 11/08/2021 03:31

"Yada yada" at the end of a sentence. I find it really annoying!

CanofCant · 11/08/2021 05:32

'No words'. Usually accompanied with a ranting paragraph.

Chanel05 · 11/08/2021 06:32

You get me?

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 11/08/2021 06:44

End of.

So childish.

LavenderAskew · 11/08/2021 06:52

A lot of words mentions so far, especially ones like No? End of. They are just make the poster sound condescending or judgemental (or both).

Slighlty differently, I have a deep dislike for posters who finish of a post with "Reader, I ...". (Well, in reality it's"Reader" used in any phrasing.)

MydogWillow · 11/08/2021 07:03

@Hepzibar

"Does that make sense"
Yes, this!
NoraLuka · 11/08/2021 07:09

Agree with «fixed that for you».

«Weetabix are nicest with cold milk and a bit of sugar.»

«Weetabix are nicest with beans. There, fixed that for you.»

Grr.

Can we add signing off gripes please?

The latest is Best.

Best what?

Feels like the sender is in too much of a hurry to be polite and add another word.

Oh and while I'm at it, pissed. Where has the off disappeared to?

Pissed is drunk. Pissed off is thoroughly fed up. Now everyone just says pissed, as fed up??

Think I should slink off to Pedant's Corner.....

Guavaf1sh · 11/08/2021 07:37

HTH is by far the most obnoxious though. I can’t understand why posters still write it!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 11/08/2021 07:52

Not a sign off, but I hate when people say hit me...'organising a hen party. Hit me with your best ideas'

Yes I'd like to hit you

Yep, I agree with people signing off with 'BEST!'

So incredibly annoying! Hmm

amillionmenonmars · 11/08/2021 10:55

'it is what it is'

Given in response to any suggestion or minor criticism by a former boss who would ask for feedback on her plans - and then plough ahead regardless of the madness or the scheme.

I soon learnt not to waste my breath with my dismissed contributions.

BastardMonkfish · 11/08/2021 10:58

I fucking hate 'go!' As if everyone has been sitting around waiting desperately for OP to ask their stupid inane question. The 'go!' people often start their sentences with 'Ok hive mind!' Which irritates me beyond belief!!

CounsellorTroi · 11/08/2021 11:04

@SwimmingOnEggshells

"I need coffee, STAT".

Anyone who says STAT is a complete knobhead.

What is STAT?

Pissed is what Americans say when they mean fed up.
