Just when you think ending a statement or sentence with "discuss", along comes "I'll wait."

It's so fucking obnoxious.

OP posts:

People who start questions on the internet with 'People in my phone'. The question is usually paired with 'go!' at the end.

Grrrrrrrr.

SalmonEile · 09/08/2021 08:13

“Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk”

rookiemere · 09/08/2021 08:14

Not as annoying as some but DM finishes every other sentence with "you know" and it makes me think well why say it then.

Arsebucket · 09/08/2021 08:15

@SalmonEile

“Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk”
I some one said that to me, I think i’d die of second hand embarrassment on the spot.
Arsebucket · 09/08/2021 08:19

I had a work colleague once who started every sentence with, “i’m not being funny, but…”

It was honesty things like, “I’m not being funny, but can you pass me some more dressings?”

or

“I’m not being funny, but can you make a note for day staff to call Mr Browns family?”

I used to work 12 hour nightshifts with her and by 3am, I’d be eyeing up widows to jump out of.

IT DIDN’T EVEN MAKE SENSE.

SofiaMichelle · 09/08/2021 08:22

"Call him/her/it/them out"

At least once in almost every bloody thread on MN. Aaargh.

lollipoprainbow · 09/08/2021 08:24

My boss says 'Cool beans thanks' a lot really annoying !!

rookiemere · 09/08/2021 08:29

Oh if we're doing annoying starts of sentences then when DH says this " You may not know this but.." it makes me all stabby. Not entirely sure why, think it's because it's usually followed by some bog standard fact that everyone knows and I have no interest in discussing.

transformandriseup · 09/08/2021 08:31

"Hmmm?"

Sounds like a teacher telling off children.

SmugglersHaunt · 09/08/2021 08:34

Not an ending to a sentence, but when people write ‘This.’ followed by a link to something or a picture.

Tiredforfive45 · 09/08/2021 08:50

…but you do you.

Which usually comes after an explanation of why anybody who does THE THING is an idiot.

“You’re thinking of switching to Vodaphone? Well, anybody that joins them has terrible signal, joins a cult and has to throw all their children down a well but you do you.”

Angry
PintOfBovril · 09/08/2021 08:51

I LOVE "Hi there Helen" for HTH. I know what it means now but I always read it as "Hit the Hay" like the person has waltzed off from the thread and gone to bed haha!
But from now on it'll be hi there Helen ☺️

MontysMinions · 09/08/2021 09:32

I've only just read that HTH means Hope That Helps

I've been on MN 5 years and have ALWAYS read it as 'Hangs the head' as in 'facepalm' type expression

My world has been blown wide open by this revelation!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/08/2021 09:39

…no?

Howyoualldoworkme · 09/08/2021 09:43

Just as annoying as "I'll wait" and "Educate yourself" is "But you knew that already"
Do people say these things in real life?

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 09/08/2021 09:44

Smug, self righteous criticism followed by "do better!"

ItsOverFlo · 09/08/2021 09:45

Its a medical term meaning give prescription as a one off and now, rather than a regular. I think the literal latin meaning is immediately.

So, yeah saying "I need coffee STAT" = Knobhead

Smashing it!!! ... At the end of a boastful sentence.

It seems so needy ... "I'm am great aren't I, aren't I though? Please say I am"

DukeOfEarlGrey · 10/08/2021 11:49

@HumbugWhale

I used to go out with a guy who said "back of the net" like Alan Partridge whenever he said something witty/answered a question in a quiz/achieved something. It was funny the first time.
Thank goodness he is in the past tense @HumbugWhale 😂
JudgeJ · 10/08/2021 15:06

@LysistrataVickers

End of.
Oh yes, the written version of the two fingered salute.

'End of' can be amusing though, I usually ask 'Of what?' and that can really puzzle people.

The other one is 'Fact', another idiotic atempt to close down any further discussion.

Flyinggeese1 · 10/08/2021 15:27

Judge agree! Especially annoying when it gets written as ‘end off’ which I see a lot.

Cheeseismymiddlename · 10/08/2021 15:33

I have never heard anyone finishing a sentence with I’’ll wait. Can I have an example ?

lannistunut · 10/08/2021 15:34

Oh agree with you.

I hate all variants of 'smashed it'

Kanaloa · 10/08/2021 15:38

@Cheeseismymiddlename

So, like this.

Name a better boyband than Westlife… I’ll wait.

Normally more serious but basically implies there’s absolutely no way anyone could one up you so you’re happy to wait while they desperately scrabble for an answer.
