Aibu? I mean … I guess it must be a stylised letter M, but …

Spotted in Edinburgh yesterday, out walking with DP. I have nc’d in case I end up showing him the thread.

Now you've said it, neither can I...maybe one of them was a gynaecologist?

Comedycook · 08/08/2021 13:29

No I can't see it and I think your post is in poor tastw

Comedycook · 08/08/2021 13:29

*taste

EverybodyIsInteresting · 08/08/2021 13:29

Where in Edinburgh is it? I know someone that might be interested...

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/08/2021 13:29

I can't see it. To me it's 2 heads rising from a grave. Is that better or worse?

ssd · 08/08/2021 13:29

Seriously? It’s a very old tombstone. I doubt anyone really cares

I didn’t see it at first, but now you pointed it out, I can’t unsee it

TSSDNCOP · 08/08/2021 13:33

It's hard to unsee it isn't it?

I'm trying, and failing, to see it as anything else.

DolphinFC · 08/08/2021 13:36

I think the image with the names on it should be removed.

UnitedWire · 08/08/2021 13:36

It’s at Grange Cemetery. Sorry to the pp who’s offended. I do think it’s okay to be a bit light-hearted about stones from so long ago, but fair enough, everyone has a different line for these things.

I don’t think it’s deliberately suggestive at all, I just can’t quite work out what’s going on with the middle bit. It’s not a Greek letter or anything, maybe?

Chrysanthemum5 · 08/08/2021 13:36

I think I know that cemetery (unless that design is on more than one headstone!)

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2021 13:38

That's definitely a 'fanjo from behind' shot (in my overactive mind) Shock

I agree I'm all for a laugh but they are peoples loved ones
LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2021 13:43

He's that's very vulva

I have no clue what it's even meant to be Confused

LittleRedPill · 08/08/2021 13:43

That looks nothing like a vagina. Confused

PurpleCuckoo · 08/08/2021 13:46

Have you ever heard of Sheela Na Gigs? Can be found on some churches in the UK...

NeverTalkToStrangers · 08/08/2021 13:48

I think fanjo can mean either vagina or vulva LRP - that’s why it’s such a useful term on MN to stop a thread getting derailed by anatomy pedants.

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 08/08/2021 13:48

Yeah, I can see it.

Tbh, the worst tombstone I saw was a quite recent one. Someone had been a dear husband and father and the quote said "We wish you could of lived longer"

I marvelled at the incompetence of the person who took the order, and of the person engraving it.

Naaaaah · 08/08/2021 13:50

@LittleRedPill

That looks nothing like a vagina. Confused
Well strictly anatomically, no but it does rather put one in mind of one.
kurtney · 08/08/2021 13:50

@LittleRedPill

That looks nothing like a vagina. Confused
It does if you imagine the imaginary person is bending over.

I'm quite interested in the symbolism on headstone and I'm intrigued as to what's it's supposed actually be.

kurtney · 08/08/2021 13:52

I agree
I'm all for a laugh but they are peoples loved ones

While I agree with the sentiment, the dates on there are late 1700's and 1800's. I doubt anyone who is alive today would even know they're related to these people.

Ha! Don't be daft.
BSintolerant · 08/08/2021 13:54

Grin It might’ve been created by a mischievous, passive aggressive stonemason who didn’t think much of the deceased.

UnitedWire · 08/08/2021 13:57

I would be so interested if it is, @Chrysanthemum5! Maybe it’s got a proper symbolic meaning we just haven’t encountered before.

Re names/privacy: it’s a busy public cemetery full of walkers and sunbathers. People routinely photograph and discuss historic stones online. This one is from several generations ago and I’m certainly not mocking anybody’s grief. I just think the logo is amusing/mystifying.
